I'll just jump in and introduce myself, shall I?

I started smoking when I was 12 (!), took many breaks to incubate and raise children (the longest break was 10 years) but over the past 4 years had reestablished a pack-a-day habit and a good deal of self-loathing along with it. For the past 4 months, however, I have had a committed and monogamous relationship with vaping :).

Fortunately for me, my husband delved into the sport and laid a solid trail for me to follow - basically, he did all the research. At the moment I use a smok Tech SiD in the house, a KGO VV2 at work, and I keep a couple of simple KGOs in my purse; I finally found a good use for those pen loops!

We visited Vapercon in Richmond VA this summer and met some nice people while getting to try a mind-boggling assortment of juices. My current favorites are the Five Pawns flavors (although I only have the sample sizes I got for Christmas - expensive stuff!), and my everyday go-to is Bangkok Dangerous from Goodlife.

My main goal in joining the forum is to learn about suppliers near me - Metro Washington DC/ Baltimore/N. Virginia - and also to learn about advocacy for vapers' rights. My son, a new vaping convert, is a student in the UMD department of public health and tells me a crucial study is being conducted there that could set the benchmark for e-cigarette regulation. Any information you could share about this type of issue would interest me.

I'm thinking I could have divided this post into 5 to fulfill my newcomer obligations. Oh well ...

Hey there! congrats on the switch to vaping. It's so nice to here families and just people in general who switched to vaping after years of smoking.
That's pretty interesting about your son being in UMD DOPH. They are going back and forth with ecigs and just trying to delay it as much as possible for the time being. I believe in the next 3-5 years something major will happen and it can only go 2 ways, you can guess what those ways are.

There is a very large ecig advocacy group who are on our forums and you are more than welcome to join the cause!

What a great insight you'll have and will have also have from your son... may just be
he'll be able to keep us all updated on the research he gathers. Hope so.

Hello Jackie and congrats! I am a new vaper here and new to the forum. I am also interested in Metro DC resources. So far I only know of one, DC Vapor in Wheaton, which is where my initial set-up came from. I feel there isn't much vape culture in DC but maybe it will grow. Anyhow, welcome and keep vaping.

Wow !! What a great introduction. Sounds like you and your family have jumped into the deep end of the vaping pool. And the deep end is the most fun.

Thanks for sharing about being interested in vapers' rights and also mentioning a study regarding vaping. I believe we will be regulated, but I hope that scientific evidence is used, combined with common sense. I worry that vaping is a political football and that logic, science and common sense won't be used in developing any regulations. It would a shame if switching to vaping from analogs becomes more expensive and that un-needed hoops were put in place to jump through in order to vape.

Happy New Year and namaste.

hello Jackie and welcome! I've only been vaping for about four months and have found this forum a godsend, especially since i haven't found a vape shop close to home or work. I live in Rockville and work in Bethesda. i think there are some shops in DC but I haven't been to any as I typically just order my stuff online. Here's a link to search for shops in DC. State of Maryland

Welcome from someone else in the Lusby area. I have heard of a few vape shops around the area, but nothing relatively close to us. Annapolis is about the best bet and they sell mostly juices from what I hear. There may be a spot over in St. Mary's and I have my wife checking that out for me tomorrow. I want to check out a spot in Pasadena that is a dedicated vape shop. The Vaper's Knoll.

Thanks for the welcome, fellow SOMDer. I have checked out a little smoke shop over in San Souci Plaza (next to Shoppers) but found only a small selection of fairly poor quality juices along with some standard e-cigs available at most gas stations. The Pasadena store sounds like a good lead, thanks, and I'm also planning a trip to Vaperz in Annandale VA. I'll let you know what I find!
