I'm new, and I was going to ask a question over where it says "ask the veterans" and it even days new members should ask their questions there.

Why can't I post a new thread to ask in there?
Just seems contradictory, Funny ....really funny but still...

You should have been allowed to post in there. I just checked and it seems the permissions have been changed recently. I'll look into this in the AM with the bosses.
