Hey guys, I'm Derek from Vancouver, Canada. ;) I'm a pretty young guy and I really enjoy smoking. I'm not a heavy smoker, I've been at it for over a year and will usually have two a day, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. On the weekends when I go out I'll have a few more, and some days I'll have none. I've taken family vacations for a week or so and don't smoke at all, I do admit I miss the feeling and look forward to my smokes, but I wouldn't say I'm physically addicted. It's one of those things that is a little break in a busy day, I'm a student at UBC and heading out for a smoke break after studying is sort of nostalgic and relaxing.

I've been evaluating my habit, and looking ahead to where I'd like to be in a few years time. Smoking is just something that doesn't mesh with my life, its a little secret affair that I am ashamed of. I smoke alone and with my close friends, but the girlfriend hates it so if I want my smoke I usually jump in the shower right after. The health threats and occasional coughing up phlegm sucks too, and leaves me with overpowering guilt. That's when I came accross the e-cig, and consequently this wonderful forum  I've been studying up the since the beginning of the week, and think this would be an excellent compromise! No smell, no health concerns, plus I love my toys and would love to explain the workings of the device to friends, as well as it's obvious health benefits!

Anyways, sorry for the novel, just figured I'd give a little background for y'all.

What I'm looking for in an e-cig:

1) Vapour production, the big number 1! I'm looking for just as much, if not more vapour than analogs produce smoke. Not looking for anything you inhale, and the vapour dissipates to the point you exhale nothing. 8-o This has priority over my other aims.

2) Authenticity, its going to be a cigarette replacement moreso than a vapourizing gadget. Looking for the typical tan-on-white or white, with an orange LED. I'd also like an automatic for this purpose, but would be willing to try a manual for its benefits (maybe get one of each, so I can use an manual when I take it out for sensitivity). Looking for something sized similarly to a normal king size cigarette. I want it not to draw too much unwanted attention.

3) Ease of refilling, simplicity, and durability. I want to be able to top 'er up with juice and not have to buy cartridges. I also dont want something that will malfunction easily if a little fluid gets in the wrong spot.

4) All I'll be using it for is two or three analog-like smoke sessions in a day, I'm going to avoid chain smoking it or puffing mindlessly, I want to save it for breaks :) Because of this, battery life doesn't matter too much. I'll also be taking it out on weekends for maybe 5 analog-like smoke sessions in an evening.

Based on what I've read and watched on youtube, I'm thinking either the tried and true 510 (with an auto for home and a manual for the bars), or the m401/2. I'm open to ANY suggestions. The 510 sounds good for vapour and hit, while the 401 looks authentic, has a similar hit, and has better battery life.

PS: Does anyone think I'll be dissapointed with an e-cig, based on what I hope my purchase will acheive for me?

Thanks! look forward to hearing from you all

I think that Point 2 is going to take the m4xx series over the top in recommendations.
You might also consider the m702 pcc which is almost identical to the m402/3 short battery, and is compatible with the cartridges (either for replacements or blanks to refill with you own juice). The e-cig in the m702 pcc is white, and though many seem to be coming with black carts, you could get cheap tan replacement carts. The pcc would ensure long life between home base charges, especially if you forget about it for a while ;)

Point one regarding vapor but no vapor... I don't quite understand. Perhaps you could elaborate a bit?

-edit-
I like litecigusa.net for supplies, good prices, fast shipping, varied models available (including both the m401, joye 510, and even the m702 I wrote about.

I think you may have misread "I'm looking for just as much, if not more vapour than analogs produce smoke. ", what I mean is I want an e-cig that produces more "substance" (or just as much) as analogs do.

I'm having a tough time picking between the m4xx and 510, the more I read the more I think I'll be satisfied with the 510, as it better replicates the analog in terms of smoke. The m4xx "feels" more like a cigarette, but most users seem to adapt to the larger, heavier 510 without too much trouble. I'm thinking the throat hit/ vapour production very similar to analogs (from what I hear) is worth dealing with larger size/not as authentic look.

I understood it as you wanted nothing to inhale, and that you preferred the vapor WOULD dissipate to the point you exhaled nothing.. you must see my confusion lol

How much vapor you exhale has more to do with the liquid and how you smoke it than anything else. If you inhale quickly on any e-cig, it's going to be thinner vapor, and if you hold it long enough you can make it disappear entirely.

That being said, I love my m402, especially with a nice strong menthol ;)

man! If you're only smoking a couple a day, I would try getting some juice with NO nicotine in it at first and see if that's enough to get you by! Worst case, you have to buy some more fluid with nicotine in it. I'm in the process of weening myself off nicotine, because I don't want it controlling my life anymore. If you gotta vape, then don't get more addicted to nicotine than you already are. That's actually my advice to everybody on here :) My goal is to get to the point where I'm only addicted to the oral fixation of actually vaping. Only keeping it around in case of big cravings for a smoke.

Yeah... this is a close call. I'm a 510 user and for the most part I love it. When they work right they are the bomb.. and with some tinkering you can usually get them to work right.

OTOH... I've had my Revolver (M702) for a couple of weeks now..... and it's a great little vapor machine. Looks and feels more like an analog. I can hold it in my lips or put it behind my ear. The PCC is pretty dern sweet and is the size of a pack of analogs... and frankly, it puts out really, really good vapor and hit.

The downside of the M702 is the short battery life (although the PCC gets around some of that) and the short time between refills. But for a person with your smoking habits... I'm guessing these wouldn't be an issue.

I must add my voice to what ctruth and guitarman said. If you're only smoking like one or two a day, plus a few extra ones on the weekend, considering quitting the things cold turkey, rather than taking up vaping. Vaping is probably vastly safer than smoking, but is still not without risk.

That said, though, if you still wanna vape... get the 510 with manual batteries. It has loads of vapor and is regarded as pretty reliable. Since you smoke so little, though, it would make no sense to use e-juice containing nicotine.

Still, though, I urge you to just quit.

Here is what i recommend:

Electronic Cigarette | Electronic Cigarettes | E-Cigarettes | E-Cigs from Smoore -

1 x M401 starter kit
1 x USB Passthrough
10 x Atomisers
100ml to 260ml of E-Liquid (recommended flavor: Marlboro)
10-20 blank carts
2 -4 Manual Batts (either M401 or M402 size)

When you are at a place with loud noises, change to your manual batts. The USB Passthrough helps to produce crazy vapor so don't forget this in your order no matter what. Atomisers are only $6 a piece when ordering 10pcs. The liquid amount you wish to order is your choice. 260ml is currently going for only $66 so you can decide if you wanna stock up.

I'm also new to this. (Vaping for a week).
You sound a lot like me, but I did smoke more, about a pack every 2-3 days, closer to the 3 side.
Speaking from experience, go with a manual battery. I've tried automatics before I got my own and they're extremely unreliable, especially when the battery's low. That, and with a manual, you have a much more convenient set up for you. You can let it heat up before you take a pull, and you don't have to worry about getting the right suction to get it going.

Also, consider this, one that looks like a cigarette will draw more attention in places where smoking isn't much appreciated. If you don't mind explaining to angry anti-smoking zealots, or if you don't mind having to explain to a boss at your cubicle what your "smoking", then maybe one that looks like a cig is good for you. I got a black/blue led so I might be a little biased, but I think it looks a little more appealing to nonsmokers (you'll get a curious stranger opposed to an angry one).

I'd recommend a 510, but that's because that's the only one I have used. The throat hit is great, though some juices i feel give you a throat hit that's much more powerful than a cig analog. Different, but stronger. Can't say it's better, but can't complain, it does feel similar to smoking. I just got a sample pack from Johnson creek, and I can tell it's much better quality than what I was vaping before (cignot cappuccino/marlboro). You might find it different, its more personal preference.

Also, don't expect it to taste like cigarettes, it won't. Don't expect to exactly replicate smoking, because well, it's not. Dripping with a 510 works great, I feel it's better than switching out my carts.

Hope I helped, sorry for the novel in return, but I'm sure no matter what you get, you'll enjoy it.

Thanks for the replys fellas. ;)

Getting an e-cig seems like a huge, unwarranted investmet for someone who smokes as lightly as I do, but it's hard to explain. I've decided that I really do enjoy a smoke or two a day, and I am very cautious not to let this number grow. Smoking is something I genuinely enjoy, but the guilt gets me every time.

When I smoke, I guess I like the calming sensation (niccotime presumably), small lightheadedness, and how it gives me quality time to relax outside with my thoughts and reflect on the day/ what I'm going to accomplish next. I like the feeling of the smoke, the cig between the fingers, taking a drag and exhaling the stress.

Can an e-cig give me the same experience, or am I better off sticking with my analogs? If I can keep my therapeutic smoke breaks and ditch the health affects, its worth it.

510 manual

2 conflicts with 1. If 1 is more important get a manual.... this lets you build up a vape - the auto can cut you off.

3) Ease of refilling, simplicity, and durability. I want to be able to top 'er up with juice and not have to buy cartridges. I also dont want something that will malfunction easily if a little fluid gets in the wrong spot.

510 or 901 manual has the cartridge filler in plain site (unlike some supermini's) Just pop off the cart, fill to moist, replace and keep on vaping.

4) All I'll be using it for is two or three analog-like smoke sessions in a day, I'm going to avoid chain smoking it or puffing mindlessly, I want to save it for breaks :) Because of this, battery life doesn't matter too much. Just one 510 would do you and 2 on the weekend so get a full 2 ecig kit.

For as little as you smoke, the 510 won't be a problem, unless you start vaping more. Highly suggest very low nic juice too. And Vegetable Glycerin - Ecopure - you can get it at the same place you want to get the 510, will produce tons of vapor.
