Hi, I have been vaping for a few months now and got to enjoy some of the ins and well....its outs as well.

Recently I decided to purchase a Protank 2. I kinda enjoyed it but I noticed that after a few pulls I get that burnt wick taste and if I leave it alone for a few minutes its fine but replicates the burnt taste again if I use it too frequently. I used MT3Ses and I became accustomed to Kangers wick issues and I have been changing the wicks upon purchase of new atty heads with cotton strands from a cotton ball and all is working fine so I decided to go ahead and do the same with the atty head in my new tanks ki. No nasty taste BUT soon after I get hardly any draw. I checked the wick to make sure it wasnt too thick and not clogging the air way and it was indeed fine. I checked the insulator around the pin and it was mushroomed out a tad so I pulled it out and let the rubber reform to its natural shape but that wasnt the issue because there is still a tight draw. I took the tip of a set of cuticle scissors and carved out one of the air holes in the base and it did improve slightly so I moved on to the seal between the chimney and the chimney shaft on the atty head which typically is the culprit for burnt tastes but decided to pull it up and allow the chimney to seat it properly while reassemble the tank which fixed many burnt taste issues in the past with previous Kanger atty heads.

Now I notice I get hardly any cloud but oddly my juice is vaping off at twice the rate. Checked everything out as far as seals and what not and it appears to be fine. No leaking, not even a hint of moisture on the firing pin of the tank itself and definitely no pools of juice in my battery.

I am using it on a VV V3 and I adjusted through all its settings and I still appear to have these issues. Tried other tanks on the VV and they all work perfect. Tried the PT2 on other batteries and it did indeed replicate the issue.

Really at a loss here as to what could be the issue.

If you are getting a burnt taste (we call those "dry hits"), if usually means your wick cannot pull the eliquid fast enough to keep up with your battery. There are a couple of things you can do:

1. Dial down your voltage. This will vaporize the eliquid at a slower rate (if your battery allows you to do this)
2. Decrease the airflow, if your tank has adjustable airflow. The decrease in airflow will increase vacuum inside the tank's atomizer, which should increase the flow of juice to the wick.
3. Take a sharp draw (or two) on your drip tip (without engaging your battery). This will pull more eliquid into the coil so that it will be available when you press the battery button and take a draw.

You will get the feel of this over time and develop a sense of how often you will need to do this to avoid "dry hits". The PG/VG ratio of your eliquid also comes into play, as VG is thicker than PG . If you use high VG try adding a few drops of distilled water to your tank to thin out the eliquid. You could also install a higher ohm coil.

I added a KangerTech Stainless Steel Aerotank Base to all my Protanks (and mini PT's). Makes a world of difference. I run mine wide open and just use my finger to block the airflow and take a draw or two (without firing the battery) whenever I sense the wicks need more juice.

Thanks for the reply.

As I said, I used Kanger tanks in the past and am aware of the wicking issues and how to rectify them. I am using a 50/50 ratio juice. Dry/burnt hits are not the issue however. I am wondering why I have such a tight draw yet I get no vapor but my juice is vaping off so fast without leaking.

I do also plan on grabbing an air flow controller.

Thanks!

I figured out the tight draw issue and assume the other issues were caused by me accidentally somehow pushing the coil down against the air hole in the actual atty head under the coil.

Works great now!

I quit smoking 7 years ago cold turkey one day and started vaping over this last summer. I wish I new about these devices back then because the last 7 years I have craved cigarettes nearly every day and from time to time found myself gnawing and chewing on my cheeks and tongue constantly. Since I started vaping I tapered down my nic level drastically and no longer find myself craving near as much as I used to resulting in the gnawing.

I think I am going to stick with a 6 ml nic till I get more into making my own liquids and probably see how I do hanging around 3ml for a while. I really enjoy certain flavors after a nice hoppy IPA so I'm not so sure I'll be giving it up all together any time soon.

Once I began to use cotton/hemp in my protank builds I found the silicone chimney seal was the culprit on the drier hits I was getting so I flipped the chimney upside down and no more dry hits. It was actually restricting the juice flow. A kanger airflow adapter as mentioned earlier is the best solution to having your protank, protank2 and mini work much better, then you can drill out the adapter with 1/16 drill and then you can easily build a 1.0 ohm coil and have it not give you hot burny taste from lack of airflow.
There is also no need for a flavor wick with a cotton build unless you have a dandy microcoil in there and its spitting juice up the mouthpiece into the mouth.

Okay everybody, thanks for any input!

I removed both wicks from my second atty head and I pulled the coil up just a tad by feeding a 1/16" screwdriver in it then threaded with a slightly thicker roll of cotton making sure to not roll it to tight so it stays nice and fluffy and its awesome! Using just one wick feels just like my Cyclone with a 0.6 ohm coil when I have the voltage up to 4.3 volts and I chained it just to see if it would stay juiced up at 4.0 volts and it did! No leakage down the pin into the battery either!

Thanks, AlterUrEgo for reinforcing that tip I tried out previously to joining and making me reconsider giving it another shot! Using Meteor in it right now and it taste so darn good!
