I couldn't sleep last night, at all, my brain just would not shut up! Any way, among the things my brain wouldn't shut up about was how elegant it would look if I had the body of my P16 engraved with my first initial "g" in a calligraphy type. Has anyone had this done? I PMed David asking him if the warranty would be void if I did this and am waiting to hear back from him, but I just thought I would ask y'all what your opinion is or if anyone has had this done. I would have to find a professional around my area who does this but won't be to hard I don't imagine. Thanks for y'alls input. :)

I own 2 P10s and my intention was to engrave one with some scrolls like you see on some solver old fountain pens unfortunately my health has caused me to sell my engraving equipment, but I thing David's P series just lends them self to such nice engraving. So go for it put on your initial,I might be able to direct you to a hand engraver in Texas you could talk to, if you want, send me a PM.

And I don't see any reason it would void David's warranty, your not changing any parts out just embellishing it!

I'm just waiting for some custom cut stencil sheets to come in and I'll be etching my P10. I use a media blaster with aluminum oxide fine grit while refinishing firearms. I just apply the adhesive stencils with a reverse cut image, mask off the rest, and do a little light blasting/etching. For mine I intend to use a positive cut image in the center depression section of the body, mask off the raised areas, and etch around. That will leave a section of the center matte finished with the nice shiny image in the middle.

As soon as I get it done, I'll post some pics if anyone's interested.

I got your PM Leroy and thank you very much. I will look into them and see how much it might cost. I'm going to look around locally too to see if I can get it done and not have to mail it off and have to wait even longer lol. I appreciate you helping me out and pointing me in the right direction :)

No, it wouldn't void the warranty, however, you would be required by mod Maker statutes, rules and regulations Volume II, Statute 346.78, sub-section 2a. , paragraph VII, to post pictures of said engraving!

You know David, come to think of it...I no remember reading that in the mod Maker Statutes, Rules and Regulations now. Thank you for triggering my memory!!! Of course I will post pics, how could I not??? Thanks so much for getting back to me, I really appreciate it :)

Maybe engraving could be another source of revenue at Super T, and also a way to protect your products from any potential bad typography.

That would be awesome but I'm sure he's got plenty to do as it is...that would just take up more of his time for sure, but great idea!

I don't think it would make it any more beautiful by any means, it would just symbolize that it's mine and all others should keep there hands off, LOL. If I can find someone local I will be getting it engraved but otherwise it will stay beautiful just as it is. Once I get it I will not want to let it out of my site :)

....but....I like salt :)

I agree to a certain degree. I find the lines and action of a nice Colt 1911 Government to be a fine combination of form and function. Some of my Colts are straight stock as produced without so much as a different pair of grips. Others I have are full customs and others are deep scroll engraved and gold inlaid. Each has it's own purpose and charm. Aside from the stock models, each of the customs stand out as an item unique to me. Everything made by anyone will always carry a spark of it's creator's soul. Adding your own personal custom touches (if done well) adds your own spark to it, making it "yours".

On a previous note, my stencils arrived in today's mail. I'll try to get into the workshop tomorrow and work it up. If I can, I'll post pics as soon as it's finished. I'll try and post some "in-progress" pics to show how easy it is.

Well, I finished the work.....unfortunately I screwed up the pics on my camera in the process of sorting them. I lost the "how to" pics.

Here's the final finished pic...

For those that don't recognize the pattern, it's the Decepticon insignia from the old Transformers cartoon. When I was part of a competition shooting team, I needed a way to differentiate my gear from the identical equipment used by my partners. I tried to find something different from the somewhat generic Punisher skulls or sports team icons. Since then, it just kind of became a way for people to know that some piece of gear is mine.

Here's some other pics, along with a customized PS Icon that was originally bought by me as a gift for someone. The guy ended up ticking me off (long story), so I kept it.

For those that want to know...This was done by picking up a couple of one inch vinyl cut car decal. It's the silver insignia visible on the Icon. I attached it to the P10, then masked off the rest of it. I spaced the masking tape so that it formed the outline around the decal. Once the masking was finished, I used a standard air compressor and an old vacuum feed sand blaster filled with aluminum oxide super fine media (looks like sand). Standard fine silica sand also works, but I didn't happen to have any at the moment. The blasting media leaves a nice durable etched finish.

The same method can be used with spray paint instead of the sand blaster. In general, it won't be as durable, but it is also easier to remove if you "oops". If you make a mistake with the blaster, you have to polish or sandpaper it out.

Decals are available at numerous places. One place I deal with is Fastdecals.com.

Hope this helps.

PS: I just noticed I uploaded on other pic by mistake. The last one in the previous post is a pic of a Masterpiece edition of the Megatron toy. It actually transforms into a toy Walther P38 with stock and fake silencer. Shoots plastic pellets :)

That is some VERY NICE work there tinstar!

Thank you very much :) Occasionally, I manage to avoid mucking things up.

I forgot to mention that the Icon was done up using the black carbon fiber skin for a XShaler. Don't have any of his mods, but the skins work. There's several sites that offer the skin material but I didn't want a stack of material laying around unused. There was already plenty of leftover bits from the skin after doing the Icon.
