Hello everyone been a while since I could post couldn't find my password and un. Great to see it so busy around here, for knowledge is key in our lovely little community. Now I do have a question though, I've recently moved up to series mods and am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my jaybo/wismec noisy cricket. It had crossed my mind to have it engraved with a few things but as always safety is my main concern, so I'm asking for any advice from owners or anyone really whether or not I should? My main concern being the thickness of the sidewalls on the mod being too thin. Thank you in advance for any input, it's great to be back!

Welcome back Hammertime :thumb:

I don't have one of these, but I just had a look at it online. I wouldn't worry about engraving this puppy, as long as you keep it within reason. 'Reason' here for me depends on the depth of the engraving and the area you cover.

The aluminum wall thickness is quite large between the batteries so you don't have to worry about it there. Once you get into the surfaces that are thin I have two thoughts.

1. Vent openings are a good thing. Even if you were to go through the wall there a bit or made some cuts that leave a thin wall section, it would just act as more venting if a battery goes bad on you one day.

2. OTOH, if you remove enough material so you weaken that thin area significantly the mod could become weak and unsafe. IMO that would take a lot of engraving, but I don't know what you have in mind so I have to stay on the safe side and say be careful with that.

If you have any more info you can share about what you're thinking of doing that would help.

Best of luck with it :thumb:

Nothing too spectacular, only one one side maybe a few Nordic runes for luck and good health. perhaps the sign of the hammer (though it may be a bit cliche) not too deep but distinct. I enjoy personalizing but not at the risk of my safety and those around me. being that I've always gotten solid info from the forum before just seemed the obvious place to ask. Also thank you for taking the time to look and give your opinion.

I have a Noisy Cricket. It has a nice little safety feature for the batteries. There are plastic sleeves in the tubes that act like an additional wrap for the batteries. Most people don't notice them but they are there. You'll have to take off the bottom plate to actually see them. The thing that people really need to be careful with is it being a mechanical series mod. Most mechs are parallel. So you will double your volts. Two fully charged 18650s will give you 8.4 volts. What this means is you don't want to put in a low ohm coil. Most people recommend .5 and higher. I run a .7 in mine. Twisted Messes has a vid on YouTube you should watch. Good luck

Yes sir thanks for the tips. I saw that in my pre purchase homework, I have a le80 which is series but with the variable voltage and regulations at 6v max is a lot easier to handle than a mechanical series mod at 8.4, most of my experience is with single 18650 mechs and regulated mods I have a Hammond parallel box I'm not completely happy with so I figured I'd give this one a go. (if not lower why not higher.) with the proper atty/build and good battery disciplines I don't see it being that far off what I've dealt with. my main concern was the integrity of the mod because I can't find whether it's cast aluminum or extrusion. to be more specific how sturdy it is never having held one myself.

FWIW, it will almost certainly be machined from an extrusion. Casting or forging a part in that shape would be cost prohibitive until unit volume exceeded several hundred thousand parts. Any machine shop with a CNC VMC-- practically all of them, these days-- can run those things up by the thousands about as fast as you can shove bar in it, but die forges and casting furnaces are harder to come by. Making the dies is expensive, and you'll add several weeks production time in prototyping and inspections and so forth. It's just not worth doing, and it doesn't get per-unit cheaper, unless you're going to make a lot of them. A whole lot. Of more interest for your purpose is the alloy; viz. 6066, 7075, whatever. I doubt you can find that out easily, too. Sales doesn't know, and Manufacturing isn't easy to get on the phone :) Do have a care what topper you put on that thing. Make sure it has a well protruding and immovable center pin. Those top caps scare me p-less.

Very informative thank you and I agree with the caution of the connection I ordered the indestructible atty and is coming with it as it's "made" for the mod I also have a few other quality attys with protruding tips. Another concern I have is the battery removal itself being there's no way to quickly remove them so safety is foremost in mind. I also don't see how people carry them in their pockets with no locking mechanism on the switch. That's a scary prospect.

Ive had mine for about a month. Been using it for about two weeks. I did my research before even messing with it for obvious reasons.
I've been thinking about engraving as well, so whatd you end up doing?
Ive only found two photos where people have done it.
By the way, I have a .8 ohm dual 26g basic build on a royal hunter mini, and it's hitting like a champ. Quick little two second hit and BAM... Flavor for days lol.
Also, if shes in my pocket, shes in there solo, like I had a teenage daughter. Just to be safe; although, my fire button is just a weeee bit janky.
