I'm new to vaping and new to the forum. Had no idea vaping had such a huge following. Yeah, it's made the news a few times and convenience stores now carry ecigs (was never interested in ecigs... just a curiosity at the counter while waiting to pay for gas), but over the past few weeks I've been researching and this is a pretty big deal. And getting bigger fast.

Quick backgroung. Quit a 20 year cig habit in 2001 after about with pneumonia, couldn't smoke for 2 weeks and thought God gave me a chance to quit and I took it. Never smoked a cig since. About 5 years ago a friend introduced me to cigars on the golf course and that pretty much grew out of control and led to an almost daily cigar habit (you think vaping is expensive? Try good cigars at $15.00 a pop). 'Nuf said about that, at least no inhaling and lungs are great, but dentist charged me extra for cleaning. Yuck. Cigars taste great, but are really nasty when you get down to it. The same friend showed up a couple of weeks ago on the course with a pen style vape and talked about it the whole 18 holes. You could easily tell us apart. He was the guy that smelled like vanilla I was the stinky guy with the $15.00 cigar. I just kept thinking this was really interesting, and appealing quite honestly. Anyway started the research and I'll be damned if I can find any definitive information on the health risks on vaping, and from what I have seen the anti-cig groups have been trying really hard...for years, to show some bad news for vapers. But haven't found it yet. Guess that doesn't mean there isn't any, but I can think of quite a few issues with cigars on a regular basis. So I'm taking the plunge and getting started. And really excited about it. This isn't just about "smoking". This is so much more with all the devices, mods, flavors, styles, techniques, and of course a lot of good folks eager to share. Plus, I'll go back to the regular cleaning fee at the dentist. What's not to like?

Thanks to everyone that takes the time to post and add to the enjoyment and understanding for us noobs. This is a whole new world with lots to learn and it really help to hear about the pitfalls others have found that I won't have to re-find... I hope.

BTW, on the course I'll be the guy that smells like caramel mocha.

Hey Jazzman, welcome to vaping, only the C stores in your area huh? wait until you get to LA next and see a Vape store on every other block. I think I heard about 150 stores opened in the last 12 months in LA alone

Welcome to the ECF. Good luck on making a decision, so many to make. One can take vape to any level they like and find a satisfaction, flavor and hobby than no smoke or cigar could possibly match, and no matches are required. Do a good search and comparison and go with quality that will last years. If looking for a regulated device the Provari or the SvoëMesto would be my top 2 recommendations. Both great quality devices.

Vape long and Prosper!!

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Can't believe how many variations and different devices and juices to choose from! And after looking, there are 5 vape stores within 20 minutes of me (one less than 5 minutes away). Who knew? I would have never found them if I wasn't looking, even though they've been there a while. I'm going to see a couple this afternoon and check out the vape scene. Looking forward to it. Might have to buy myself a present or two. Wonder if they gift wrap?

Welcome to a great forum. We are all here to help. The vape stores are a good place to see, hold and try different devices. I buy alot locally even though prices are high to support them. I would start simple, maybe an eGo and mini protank. When in doubt come here for help. Frustration can come easy, but the guidence you can get here will save you from that. I look here prior to buying any new toys. Good Luck, and welcome.

OK. Visited 3 vape stores locally (never knew they existed before I started into vaping research) and found all of them really helpful and not pushy at all. The store I decided to buy a starter kit from spent 45 minutes with me explaining all the ins and outs they could in that amount of time, and it jived perfectly with the info I got here. So I was pretty sure I wasn't being sold a bill of goods. I could tell they really enjoyed vaping and talking about vaping. They also had a good understanding of the tech behind it all.

Here were the recommendations the store I bought from gave me, with the understanding I was completely new to this and wanted to get away from my cigar habit.

1) If I was on the fence about vaping and had no experience the best choice would be a simple eGo style starter kit for around 35.00 with another 6 to 20 on juice depending if I wanted to try a few or just one (they had test rigs, throw away tips, and at least 50 different juices I could try if I wanted. Total cost would be about 50.00 total depending on juice choices.

2) If I was fairly sure I wanted to vape and wanted a bit better experience with more options and wasn't worried about dropping a few bucks if it turned out I didn't like it, they recommended a iTaste VV V3.0 (comes with 5 dual coil clearos, charger cable, wall wart) with 3 15ml juices for about 100.00.

3) If I was really sure and wanted total flexibility and top notch equipment for future modding and building, the Provari V2, a few 5mm thick glass carto tanks, a 5 pack of cartos, and a few bottles of juice. Around 350.00.

I chose option # 2 figuring even if I got more expensive/better equipment later this iTaste would make a great backup system anyway, so wouldn't be a wasted investment. Besides, dropping a Franklin to start a new hobby seems fairly cheap. Anyway, I like the iTaste with VV/VW and the juices are great... especially the Adam Bomb Mamma's Cookies, and I think I'm setup to finish my introduction to vaping by actually vaping. Havin' a blast and am open to all advice on what, if anything, I should be doing next besides vaping and luvin' it.

Thanks for the reply Truman. I have to admit to enjoying the hobby side of this as well as the vaping side of course. And if it costs a bit, so be it. Coming from spending 90.00 to 120.00 a week on cigars, this is fairly tame so far, and really satisfying. Imagine, vaping for flavor only. Yes I can add a bit of nic to scratch that itch, but flavor is what's really intriguing me now. And I don't think it's costing me calories either, but damn... it really tastes good. What an odd notion for a smoker, looking for real flavor before anything else.

Merry Christmas!
