Hi all, just joined the forum earlier in the week and ready to say hi and hopefully get some pointers.

I am in the UK and at the start of the week took delivery of Vapestick XL kit. My partner and I have slipped back into bad habits and have been smoking fairly regularly after quitting a few years ago, after trying a friend's Vapestick I was pleasantly surprised that it had a decent throat hit (something that I did not believe you got from an e-cig). The only issue is, I am getting a very kind of tickly throat hit from it, especially if I exhale slowly. I tried the lower nicotine and flavoured cartridges, but still have this slight uncomfortable feeling at the back of my throat after a few draws.

So I am looking on some advice on where to go next. I was going to buy another kit anyway so might as well do it now and see if I can improve the vaping experience. You probably hear this a lot but I am looking for something that provides a good smooth throat hit (with out being tickly), good vapour, and a battery that will last me for a whole day (or close to!). Whatever I buy will also be to take out and about so will not be one of the big tanks, I am thinking of the clearomiser type ones, also need something that's not going to leak in my pocket etc. (have heard this happens sometimes).

As I understand it, there will be three things I need :

1. Battery (I read someone mention Vision Spinner 2s? Variable Voltage sounds good but may be above my budget though)

2. Clearomiser (I believe this is the bit that has most effect on Vapour, Throat hit etc, so want to get this right. I am lost with types, Dual Coil, Bottom, Top, which one will help me get that smooth throat hit and not leak at the same time?)

3. e-liquid (Not looked into e-liquid much as have been using the Vapestick carts, but is this significant to the throat hit and vapour, are there any types or specific brands that anyone recommends in the UK?)

I have just had a read through and realise this was a very long Hi message, so apologies for that!

Hope that you all can provide me with some recommendations on what to buy so that I can enjoy vaping and more importantly stick around and enjoy this forum.

Cheers:)

Hi nhenson, welcome to the forum :)

1) Vision spinners, eGo Twist or Kanger Evod are all good (basically all the same, so depends on which you like the look of most).
They give you the ability to 'fine tune' your vaping experience - More volts will give more vapour & be warmer.
There are different sized versions of all of the above, I would recommend that you get a high mAh one and a lower mAh one (for times you don't want to be seen to be carrying around a flute).

2) I would suggest either a Protank 2 or Davide Glassomizer (very similar), they both have the same heads (changeable bits that contain the wick and coils), they are both bottom coil (which gives a cooler vape than a top coil - more distance for the vapour to travel from coil to mouth). You can also rebuild these heads yourself, if you ever want to that is, it saves even more money and gives you better flavour and vapour production.
If the protank 2 or Davide is too big for your liking there is the option of a Protank2 mini. It is the same width as the battery, so looks more slimline.

3) Throat hit can be obtained in two ways, a) Nicotine level (mg) b) High PG e-liquid. Increasing heat (or voltage) will also give you a bigger throat hit. The scratchy feeling that you experienced was probably from the PG content of the juice.

Depends on the flavours that you like as to what to suggest for this one... Menthols, Tobaccos, Fruits, Bakery etc??

Hi DoubleEwe,

Many thanks for all the info. I will have a look at batteries and clearomisers today.

What effect exactly does a cooler vape have?
You mention PG could be causing discomfort in throat, can I buy liquid with less PG and will it still provide a throat hit? Is there anywhere online for UK delivery you recommend to get specific blends of liquid? I am not entirely sure what kind of flavours I will like yet, but think I will prob like Menthol and Fruit flavours the least!

the throat hit you get is from the nicotine. pg is the flavor holder and vg is the one that holds the density. i say you go for a mvp v2 with a aspire nautilus tank. it is variable wattage(power). it will cut you until a few years until you get more into this. also if you go for 50/50 pg/vg youll get more of both, but i prefer going for 30/70 pg/vg because pg at 30% still has alot of flavor.

P.s, Just had a look at the Pro Tank and it seems that there are different choices for the resistance of the coils! I didn't know this was a factor, what should I pick and why?

Ohms resistance affects how much power you can safely apply to your device. The lower the resistance the lower the power level that can be safely used. Read up on Ohms Law to familiarize yourself (its really not as technical as it might sound) especially if you intend to build your own coils at some point.

A cooler vape will just be smoother on the throat and lungs, some people want a hotter vape to get closer to the feeling that they had from ciggies.

Many vendors in the UK offer different ratios for PG/VG combinations, 50/50 is a good ratio to start with (a lot of decent suppliers have this as the 'norm'), it will give you good flavour (PG carries flavour better than VG) and good vapour production (VG produces more vapour than PG).

You can get a good throat hit with high(ish) nicotine (18mg), that will give you the hit you want without being scratchy.
Cheapo liquids like Dekang (their standard range) are usually high PG liquids, and for me were not even worth the (cheap) price.

Triphammer e-liquids (UK) are quite good on the Tobacco flavour front, they are not cheap though, so I would recommend that you buy the smaller bottle size (10ml) to see if they are up your street. I have tried T & H standard, and it does taste sort of smokey, oaky, earthy and gives a decent throat hit.
House of Liquid also has a good blend of tobacco juices, I have not tried any of them (more of a bakery flavour man myself) but I hear they are good too.

Menthol - The best I have had is Accies menthol (1912), it properly clears the sinuses, a very strong menthol with only a small amount of mintyness. You can get his liquids from e-cigarette club (based in NI). Once again, not cheap.

Hopefully some other buggers will post on this thread some cheaper nice tobacco options for you...

The different resistances for the protank heads simply give you a warmer vape (low resistance) or cooler vape (high resistance).

As Towmotor says, it is all about power (and ohms law), if the voltage (eg 4.2V) is the same for both resistances then the lower resistance head (1.8ohms) will be delivering 9.8Watts to the coil & the higher resistance (2.4ohms) will be delivering 7.35Watts to the coil.

Assuming the coil wire to be the same thickness, more power = more heat = more vapour

Thanks for the help in understanding everything. I really should have know about Ohm's Law, I studied Physics at Uni!!!

I liked the Spinner but decided it was a bit pricey for now so went for the EVOD Twist. Also, didn't fancy a big bulky clearomiser yet so went for the Protank Mini.
Hopefully these will sort me out for the foreseeable future.

I came home again today and gave the Vapestick a try again, it is definitely not pleasant to inhale. Does anyone know what PG/VG mix they use?
The carts I have are the standard ones on the Vapestick website. I would post a link but I am not allowed to yet.

Most of the sites I looked at so far all seem to use 70/30 PG/VG, apart form one where they did 100% VG (is this worth trying?). I will have a look at the ones you have mentioned DoubleEwe but am trying not to spend too much until I find the right setup.

Welcome nhenson! DoubleEwe has offered some great thoughts, and being on the same side of the pond as you would know what's available in your area.

I typically use 50/50 liquids. 100% VG is quite thick, and your atomizer might have trouble wicking it yielding burnt hits. And, since PG is the flavor carrier, an all-VG liquid might mute the flavor somewhat.

Tasting and testing is part of the quest. Hopefully you can find something that works for you!

Cheers

Hey, welcome to the forum. Wanted to offer some uk based advice, i'm still trying to figure out what mix of liquid suits me. I just ordered from a supplier call Joose Juice, they are based up here in scotland so postage shouldn't be too long. On their site the offer lots of different PG/VG blends, from 30/70 to 100% PG. The good thing about this is they offer tasters for £1.50, so I just ordered 10 different flavours in different blends. Means if you can't stand 1 then you haven't wasted too much money. They also do base ingredients if you want to try to DIY. I haven't tried their liquid yet as ive only just ordered but they were highly recommend on the UK forum.

Also if you are trying to figure out what tank/clearomiser as I still am, check out fasttech. They do genuine stuff the cheapest I've seen it anywhere, including replacement coils. The downside is they are based in China and shipping can take a while (still waiting on my order) but they do worldwide free shipping and have upgraded postage options if you want (as long as you aren't ordering batteries).

Good luck [emoji4]

Thanks for all the advice, I now have my Spinner and Protank Mini 3.

I was loving it until I decided to run it dry this evening so I could try a new flavour. This is quite hard to do as the vapour level goes lower than where you can see, any tips?
Anyway, once I thought it was empty, I topped up with some new juice. I filled it more than I did the first time and stopped when I got to the little bits of coil visible (When putting the tank right way up, this only really goes to just above half way on the clearomiser). However, when I screwed it back on to the battery I am getting absolutely nothing. What have I done, flooded it? It isn't making any noise either, not sure what to do to correct this, any advice?

Thanks in advance for any help!
