Hi Everybody,
I'm new here and new to "vaping" in general. I hate that name BTW, sounds SO pretentious. I've been a smoker for nigh on 15 years, and recently switched. I can't say I'm totally satisfied, but then all I've tried is one of those cheapo $10 disposable kits. I've been doing a lot of reading on here though and I'm sure there's better.

Right now I'm working on my first box mod (a 1x14500 kit from Madvapes) while whomping up my own design. I have an idea for a super capacitor-boosted 5V box mod that will run from a single 14500 cell.

While waiting for my 5 posts to start a new thread, I just thought I'd introduce myself and ask if anyone knows of any other mods to date that don't cost over $50, are small, light, powerful and with swappable batteries? Better yet, has anyone tried boosting performance with capacitors? I think with the right design it could work really well, and extend battery life too.

Welcome to the ECF! You'll find much more satisfaction out of virtually anything else beyond the disposable. The box mod you are working on will open up a lot of new possibilities in atomizers and cartomizers. Be sure to try the Boge 2.0 and the dual coils on it. As for more elaborate yet inexpensive mods, it sounds like you are describing something like the VariCool from Smoktek.

If your going to the big boy toys strait after a disposable you will notice a world of diffrence. I went from disposables to a crappy 901 kit, to an ego-t kit, to Variable Voltage. Wish i had just skiped to the big boy toys to start.

That was always my plan, I'm an obsessive researcher (comes from being a scientist by trade). Figured I'd spend a few bucks and see if it was for me, and then jump into the best equipment I could afford (function over form) if there was promise. I think there is promise, though the traditional nicotine sources are still calling me... I'm counting on it being due to crappy performance. The thing I love so far (aside from health benefits over the alternative) is that I don't have to worry about not being able to finish all at once when I get busy (or even go at any particular pace when I'm relaxing). Just take a few puffs when I feel like it and back into the pocket when I have to get going... so nice.

You will definately be able to get your crave filled with better gear. my only other sugestion is to start with a pg/vg mix instead of strait PG. especially for a new vaper. alot of folks complain about sore and itchy mouths with pure PG. I am a constant puffer so ive found 18mg to be a good level for me since i chain puff. my wife is a once in awhile puffer so she uses 30mg juice and that dose her good.

Hi! I use a box mod with an USB conector, that allows to use the 14500 at 3.7 or the USB connection at 5V. Not sure if i got exactly what you have in mind, but if the idea is to have 3,7 or 5v no need for capacitors, if it was to have only the 14500 boosted to 5v youll need a big bag to carry 14500 bats, but... Good luck, nothing better than having your own baby all made by you altough yoll need to fit all that stuff inside the tiny box. Cheers

Best of luck,Well at least you didn't buy the cheapo and said ahh heck I knew this was all a gimmick and this sucks I'm going back to smoking..At least get a good cheap ego kit to vape while you shop for the bigboy stuff..And get a bunch of different good juices too,variety is real important.If all else fails.Vape like mad,TTYL

I know few here will think my idea is a good one, and for all I know they're right. Still I just
have to tinker. Good news though, is that with 30 mg juice I can make even my standard 510 last all day... so battery life is not that big a deal. It just takes too much work to get the dose I need.

All you've tried is a cheap 10 dollar disposable but you have a cheap standard 510? just experiment,I do 30 mg-36 mg and chain vape...Do what it takes.I use Egos most of the day until I get home and mod and they work fine..You'll find a mod that you like ,take your time and shop..Nothing less powerful than an ego with a Lr atomizer works for me ..But that's me

Get yourself the variable voltage Ego 900Mah battery for 30 bucks over at drews @ inhaler.com, you can change the voltage's around to (3.2v) (3.7v) (4.2v) this way you have options for different juices and can experiment.
Also get yourself some of there lung juice..
(the watermelon is so good it will make you wanna smack yo mama!)

It will go great with a good cartomizer. I really really really like the Clear eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer's from madvapes.com
and all of em together its like having an orgasm in your mouth! ((not literally I hope)) lol
