Hi guys,

so I just signed up as I've managed to convince my dad to turn to e-cigs after explaining all the benefits to him. The main sway point was that he could possibly smoke it indoors when its freezing in the winter lol. He was a lot more open to idea than I thought he would be!

Let me Thank You in advance for taking your time to read my post and with any help/info you are able to provide me with!

Like many people here I came across Smoking Everywhere at Dadeland Mall a few days ago who tried to sell me the kit for $160!!! I said i would go back should I feel that was a good price. So i jumped on everyones best friend when it comes to purchases: the internet. and voila I found this extremely helpful and information packed forum!

I have been reading posts for 3 days now and last night I was having nightmares with e-cigs flying around after managing to sleep at 6.30am!!! Seriously no joke!!!

So I decided to post as my head was going to explode any minute!!! As you can imagine i have some questions for you, the main one being which device would be best suited to my dad, in order to increase the possibility of him sticking to it?

I have been trying to get him to quit for a long time as cigarette smoke blocks my airways and I find it very difficult to breathe, but he refused to quit saying that he liked smoking, so when he would smoke in the living room I would have to walk away as i couldnt breathe and would cough constantly.

After convincing him to give it a try here are the questions I have for you very knowledgeable people!:::

I will give you the info first in order for you to give me the best possible answers.

1. He has been smoking for 35 years (since he was 15).
2. He used to smoke rough stuff like Dunhill
3. He eventually switched to Marlboro Red
4. He has now been smoking Marlboro Lights for around 2-3 years.
5. He smokes around 20 cigs a day
6. He smokes throughout the day
7. He would not like a manual device, not yet anyway
8. He would also not like a weird looking device to start with (like the Screwdriver - I will likely get him one should he get used to and stick with using e-cigs)
9. He does not like it when ciggies are hard to pull the smoke out of (like those Slim ones)
10. He would get frustrated with things dying to quickly such the atomiser and batteries which would contribute to him going back to the evil way of smoking.

So those are the main things I can think of to make a decision on.

Here are some questions which I would like your help with::

1. Which of the devices would be best suited to him taking into consideration the points mentioned above??? 901? 510? any other suggestions???

2. M/boro flavour would be his best bet as he expressed interest in it. Would he like it if he is now smoking M/boro Lights??? Hes quite picky with the way cigarettes taste i.e he will NOT smoke Polish, Spanish, Portugese, Bulgarian etc made M/boro. He will only smoke stuff made for Germany, Switzerland, UK etc as they are better quality apparently and don't taste as harsh and nasty.

3. What nicotine mg strength should I go for in order for him to get the same amount of nicotine he gets from M/boro Lights???

4. I have convinced him it is best to get a BLACK e-cig rather than a realistic looking one as this will increase the chances of him being allowed to smoke it indoors, BUT do I go for a BLUE LED or a RED LED???

5. I am currently in Miami and will be here for another 2.5 weeks so will likely get him the device while I am here - who would be the best bet to get it from (also factoring in shipping times)???

6. I think it would be best to have some READY filled nicotine capsules to start with, and introduce self filling them later when he is used to the idea first in order to decrease the chances of rejection - where can I got some M/boro flavour prefilled ones from???

7. How much juice should I get to start with, I know I can get juice in the UK but it seems a lot cheaper in the States? Obviously not too much in case he doesn't like it.

8. Should I get a replacement atomiser with the order just in case???

I think that is it for now. If you could help me with answering those 8 questions and coming to a majority decision as to which device, what mg strength and if he would like the flavour then you would be helping me out a lot and save me a lot of pulled out hair!!! lol

I'm sorry about the lengthy post and THANK YOU so much once again!! :D:D:D:D:D:D

hello striker. If you tell me your dads 47yrs oldI'd think you were talking about myself lol. my choice would be any of the 510s ,in my experiance they hold up well and the starter kits already have a spare atty. however get the manual as its not cumersome and will save many headaches. I would also wait till you get back to UK since you can get it there no problem(JANTY SHOP>COM and TOTALLY WICKED.UK) also you dont want to try explaining to customs about the little bottles of liquid. my .02 goood luck

I agree the 510 or other manual will give him the best hardcore smoker experience. Manual batt is not that hard to use and well worth it. Get a sampler as elendil suggested and fill some carts for him. I'd guess around 18mg juice but everyone is different so higher nic like 24mg or 36 could be cut down to suitable level.

So in other words, he wants the perfect electronic cigarette.
We all do, but it hasn't been invented yet.
:(

The first thing you need to do is find out if he will change his mind about the manual batteries.
He most likely will, but many simply do not, so who knows.

After that you can find out what he REALLY wants.

Right now he is looking to satisfy every condition of a cigarette.
But that is only because he can't imagine alternatives yet.

Once he has one in his hands and starts using it he will discover what is important to him.
And then you can make a better decision on what model to get next.

But I have to agree with most of the suggestions so far.
The 510 with both a manual and automatic battery fulfills most of the requirements.
And also gives him the option of making the crucial manual/automatic decision.

After that you can explore how he REALLY feels about it having to look like a cigarette.
I for one don't think I'll ever cross that bridge, and I'm sitting pretty with my 510 manual.

Hi all!!

Thanks very much for your replies so far. So the 510 has manual AND auto built in???
Some of the 510 kits come with 1 auto battery and 1 manual battery. Other kits come with 2 manual batteries. I know of no kit that comes with 2 auto batteries.

2 batteries will not be enough, but your dad can try both of them to decide which he prefers.

Rule of Thumb: the more it looks like the real thing, the worse the performance and reliability. The PV's (personal vaporizers) that have a small button to push allows the user complete control as well as heats the vapor making it more like the real thing. You will find that your Dad would rather his PV "feel" more like the real thing than look like the real thing. That is only possible with a manual switch PV such as the 510, Prodigy, Janty Stick, etc. The auto switch PV's are much more frustrating than the manual switch PV's. The auto switch PV's have an auto cut off of the battery which most smokers do not like. With the manuals, the USER controls how warm the vapor is.

I had the same concerns as your dad. After reading through this forum I decided on the manual 510. I was a bit worried I would be annoyed with the button on the manual, but once I started using it it really wasn't that big a deal to adjust to. I like the control and I get a good vape hit. Just make sure to get some liquids and empty carts he can juice. They do drink up the juice pretty quick. Mine is black with a red led. I foretold my coworkers about it and they found it interesting and I have no issues vaping at work indoors now. Good luck!

OK so I guess most people agree the 510 with an auto and manual batt will be the best bet.

Why do you say I will need more batteries??? I thought one batt can be charged 200 times and lasts between 3-4 hours. Surely he only need one batt per day? I dunno how long it takes to smoke a ciggie as I dont smoke myself so cannot calculate how long the e-cig would be operating for to equal the smoking time of 20 analogs (see im coming round to the thinking lol)

And what exactly is the difference between the auto and manual batts??? I thought the only real difference was a bit more of a delay with the auto as it will have to recognise you are sucking first, and then start the process of heating up the atomiser??? And I'm guessing the auto batt will keep the atomiser running for longer so that next time you take a pull you dont have to wait a second again. Wouldnt they be running just as hot once started???

Oh and all the criteria I came up with I did so on my own. I only offered the idea to him and he said he will leave it all up to me to make the best decision lol Plus he is not here as I'm in the states so it takes a long time to explain everything over the phone especially since both of us are very new to this and it will cost sh*tloads of money lol so I only have you guys to help me decide :D

Well, the first thing is that 510 batteries do not last as long as most others.
I am not sure why but I am guessing it is because of the manual battery.

I wouldn't expect more than 2 hours.
If used for 10 minutes each analog, that is over 3 hours of use.

And of course the second battery has to be ready when the first one is done.

The main difference is that the automatic batteries have a cutoff that activates to keep the atomizer from getting too hot for some reason. That cutoff is extremely annoying, frustrating, and aggrevating to many people. Many of us WANT our atomizers getting hotter for longer than the cutoff, and I think that is probably why the manual battery gives more vapor, and the battery charge doesn't last as long.

The 510 has alot of "accsesory" support.Think of it as a Ipod when your looking for nifty add ons for it.
Portable charger/carrying case.Holds two batteries while it charges one from the boxes own rechargable battery.
USB passthroughs.
And theres a newer, slightly longer battery hitting the shelves soon with a claimed longer life.
The performance is great, has a decent size cartridge, and manual batteries have other advantages..Like no hole in them that juice COULD leak into messing them up.
Great unit for first timers and people who have used them for a while.

OK so general consensus with 510 then lol. I will get the pack with an auto and a manual. I think I saw them on the Eastmall website, black with a red LED and one of each batteries which is what im looking for.

I've also managed to convince my girlfriends dad to give one a try who is here with us. What I mite do is get one for him and see what he thinks of it, and if he doesnt like it i will just pass it on to my dad. He smokes Dunhill though so I think I will get him some 24mg cartriges and 18s for my dad.
What is the closest flavour to represent Dunhill???

Also, I read on one of the sites that the Pilot is smaller, has better battery and better hits than the 510. Is this true??? and if so why arent more people using them as opposed to the 510???

The Pilot is an M401 and it is definitely one of the more popular models.
But until it comes out with a manual battery (in the works) I can't believe it can give a better hit.

Dont go looking at the names of different tobacco flavored juice and assume its gonna taste like the "real thing"....cause they dont.
Not to say its a bad thing. The "marlboro" doesnt taste like one to me,but it has a great taste of its own.Cant really describe it...Maybe kind of like a cigarette if you take all the HARSHNESS out of it. Hilton is also one I like. Never had a Hilton cigarette, but im guessing it doesnt taste like one either.
Johnson Creek original tobacco and Tennessee Cured flavors are the closest to a actual tobacco taste ive tried.

Stick with a manual battery IMO.Save yourself the headache of sticking pressure switches, primer puffs, auto cleaning cycles, auto cut offs, leaking juice into a battery...etc
Not saying those things happen all the time, but why put up with them at all?

OK last night I found a 510 kit in BLACK with RED LED with an AUTO and MANUAL batteries. I'm sure I did!

I have just spent the last 3 hours going through EVERY SINGLE RETAILER on the main forum page and have NOT found it again!!!!

Please help im goin nuts here!!! :(:(:(

Here is what you can do. Buy a 510 kit with the 2 manual batts and then buy a battery for the 306A here: 306A Battery replacement

The 306 batt is an auto and will fit the 510. That way you have an auto batt to compare, but I am sure your dad will end up liking the manual better.

Ok her are 2 places to get a 510 at a good deal, both ship quick and have a good reputation.

Joye Tech 510 Starter KIT
has 2 batteries & atomisers, plus lots of extras

Vapor Station
has 3 batteries and 2 atomizers

Just look around. I have ordered from both of these. The first one "nhaler.com" has good liquid. JMHO

Even better, go ahead and get the 306 atomizer while you're at it.
The 306 atomizer is GREAT for dripping/dipping with the 510 manual battery.

And the 306 electronic cigarette gives you the choice of using something pretty much the same size as a real cigarette, with the automatic battery should you desire to use it.

The 306 and 510 are pretty much interchangeable and a match made in heaven in so many ways.

306 atomizer with 510 battery - great for dipping or dripping
306 atomizer with 306 battery - very small (89mm) little automatic cigarette that works well
510 atomizer with 306 battery - good way to use an automatic battery with a decent cartridge llife
510 atomizer with 510 battery - big throat hit and vapor production

I find myself mixing and matching to suit my mood.

OK so, Update!

Firstly THANKS to all of you who helped me reach a decision. The help is very much appreciated :)

I settled on the 510. Purchased in Titanium from VAPOR STATION. $50 with 2 attys and 3 batts!!! 1 Auto, 1 Manual with LED, 1 Manual without LED. Perfect package for a very good price!! Thank You BURNIE for finding that one. I did look on that site yesterday ( as I did on almost every single other supplier site listed) but couldn't find it. I tried again today and that package does not come up at all!! I have no clue how you found it but you did!! lol

AS for juice...I decided to get small trial bottle (6ml) from MY FREEDOM SMOKES. Reasons for going with them were good customer feedback regarding service and juice quality. That was half of it.
The other half was the fact that they carry LOTS of flavours in 0mg up to 48mg!!!! I got 8 different little bottles.
I had been searching all day for a juice supplier who carries lots of flavours but ALSO 0mg. The reason being that I myself smoke SHISHA (HOOKAH in the US). I figured e-cigs may provide a better alternative. But I didnt want any nicotine. But also had to get nicotine tobacco flavours for my dad and my girlfriends dad :) So when the kit arrives I will also give it a go and see if it is a fair replacement for the shisha.
Only annoyance was that amongst the MANY flavours they had, the one flavour I was particularly looking for for myself, ROSE, they didnt have :(.

Will up date when the kit arrives, and me and my girlfriends dad have given it a go.

Thank You all again for your input, and should I decide to get myself one as a shisha replacement, I will most deffinately be hanging around this forum :)
