i can respect the reviews, luckily i just got a new unit and the button click is very easy as stated before. I do have to agree its a really weird looking unit. but after using it I really dont care. Plus you just dont see many vendors that will mail you out a replacement BEFORE you mail the old one back. Overnight nonetheless.

who me? when was i rude??

No, Scott, not at all, and I certainly did not mean every single Londoner. I only replied to one post, not your thread in general. Sorry to even have given you that impression. And it's my wacky California sense of humour.

I've always appreciated your reviews, btw. Too bad you didn't care for the Darwin, but not every PV is for everybody. That's why we are so lucky to have so many choices. I suppose the responses you are getting from happy Darwin owners is just a sense of surprise that you didn't like the device as much as we do. I know it's prolly a hassle for you to send it back, but please know that Evolv would take care of every detail for you.

Thanks 'love'! :)

Hey Scott, how about doing another review of the Darwin focusing on the difference in the technology between Variable Voltage and Variable power (wattage). How about the 2 year warranty, 1 year free battery replacement, constant monitoring of the electronics, the constant monitoring of the ohm's of the atty/carto, the automatic voltage adjustment due to changes in the ohm's reading, the customer service that Evolv provides, and etc....all these things included in a video would be very helpful for those who are searching for a PV.....

Good Day

My Darwin totally stopped working last week and I got in touch with Evolv and they told me that my atty or adapter probably shorted it. I was very disappointed because I've used that atty many times on my Darwin so I couldn't understand why that happened all of a sudden. At any rate they were very nice and told me where to send it.

Apparently they do not send out replacements beforehand any more because they certainly didn't do it for me, but that's no biggy. Brandon said he was replacing all of the internals except the case and returning it on Monday so I should have the new and improved by tomorrow since it only took 2 days to get to them.

I also had a stiff button, but forgot to mention it to Brandon so I'm hoping he fixed that problem for me also. Everything updated and brand new, can't wait to get it back and they really do have excellent CS.

hi mate,

if you watch the vid you will see that i did cover pretty much everything that you mentioned......but for some reason, the darwin fans are completely blind to that fact and instead just want to get upset that i also pointed out its flaws too (which are demonstrated and shown very clearly in the close up shots) ;)

only thing i could not comment on was customer service.......simply because i was not a customer

one thing that concerns me is the number of people saying "my Darwin is great and the Evolve customer service is fantastic! im now on my 4th Darwin and they replaced it straight away every time!"

rather than praising a company that are clearly lacking in their quality control, should people not be asking why are they failing so often??

like i said in a prior post, for as many people who received a perfect Darwin there seems to be just as many who received a faulty one with regards to a stiff switch and loose arm. a 2 minute inspection by Evolve to rectify the issue prior to sending to distributors would have made a HUGE difference to the review as they were my 2 main gripes!

at the end of the day, i have to base my review on the product in my possession......i cannot and will not base it on other peoples experience.

sadly, the Darwin i received to review had not been inspected properly by Evolve and therefore any blame for pointing out the extremely obvious negatives lay firmly at their feet and not mine :p

cheers

amen... I got in early on Darwin myself.
It was faulty... they sent a new one before i sent mine back... It didn't work at all. To tell the truth, if it did work, i'd have kept it, but great customer service as they are, Evolv, offered a refund or a new one (3rd)... I refunded.... because the button was too damn stiff, and i didn't like the swing arm and no drip well which is not functional on a swing arm anyway since it turns...

I don't fault Darwin lovers one bit... they love the tech... period... more power to them and I do think Scott you are too hard... but that 's your opinion, and you are entitled to it. I happen to agree with you on the vital points.

from my observations, a limited group of people share a strange notion that they should elsewhere mock the accent, language and characteristics of the reviewer due to his differed and sternly independent matter of view and opinion. the fact that this behaviour is accepted indeed encouraged by their favoured vendor demonstrates lack of manners, while further inaccurate accusations and fact shifting, provides clues as to state of intellect.

while lies and deceit become employed to ascertain false argument, then i would assume motivation lays in the fact that honesty and integrity have failed.

the darwin as featured in the clear and apparent highly defined review, exhibited major flaws, however the electronics were favourably remarked upon. it is not the responsibility of the reviewer but the manufacturer to ensure consistent quality of the device. this particular one was afforded its fair and independent review and its failings remain with both the manufacturer and vendor whom together draw respectable income from it. manufacturer and vendor should readily expect criticism when neither has managed to perform adequate quality control prior to despatch. customers need not be purchasing disappointment.

this reviewer is widely regarded and his input toward the general evolution of e-cigs is valuable to many around the world. his input will almost definitely have favourably influenced active sales and development of many electronic cigarettes including those having advanced toward the original aim of this particular product.

the overall industry will gain no favour by submission of false views forgiven to defend inferior devices, and those choosing to attack the reviewer via their lack of ability to defend the product and marketing, manage only to accentuate the importance of uninfluenced independent reviews from so qualified experienced characters such as this reviewer.

Of course my personal opinion of this particular device is mixed as i do appreciate the electronics but dislike the aesthetics. the restriction posed by an 180 degree arm also concerns me as I have become accustomed to entire free movement of the type of abilities that most normal devices provide. perhaps my biggest overall gripe would be with the ignorance of the product coupled with the demeanour of personalities obtaining profit from it.

^^ sigh.......the insane ramblings of a fanboy with a blinkered view

the fact that i stated the electronics were excellent, the battery life was excellent and the vapour production was excellent yet also pointed out its faults too really does make for a biased and unbalanced review doesnt it! lol

if you had a brain cell it would die of loneliness

im up for anything too.....so feel free to do your worst

you came onto this thread with the sole intention of putting your blinkered fanboy view across and then ran along to the other fanboy thread to boast about it........quite simply, you are purposely trying to cause trouble

you keep mentioning the Provari, yet no mention of the Provari was made throughout the entire course of the review........but then its always easier to invent things than speak the truth isnt it, sigh

you accused me of being biased and only pointing out the negatives that myself AND MANY OTHERS have experienced. i merely pointed out that because of your fanboy blinkers you failed to notice all the positives i talked about too........but then its always easier to whinge and cry about things than to simply accept that maybe, just maybe not everyone has been blown away by the Darwin and feels the need to .........e over it

as i said above, there have been many forum posts that stated other people have experienced the exact same issues as myself regarding the play in the arm and the stiff switch.........here is an example of one:-

"Just an update. Bugger the warranty. I couldn't stand the switch (I was getting callouses on my thumb) so I opened up the Darwin to see why the switch was so stiff. Turns out the the actual switch is a very small microswitch which is very light in action. The problem was with the piece of bent brass sheet that acts as a button. I bent mine slightly, put it back together and what do you know - it now activates with the lightest of touches.

This, to me, is poor quality control on assembly. The switch should activate like it does now "out of the box". Don't they test them? 2 seconds to rectify.

While I had it open, I poked the spring and ball bearing that hold the arm in an upright position. I think the ball wasn't seated correctly. When reassembled, the arm now clicks upright with a satisfying click and doesn't collapse when a tank or something heavy is attached. Same QC problem.

When you make something, you must know what the finished product is supposed to be like, so when each one is made it should be tested against these criteria. It looks like Evolv don't actually do this.

Something else I've got is fingerprints on the finish that I can't remove. "

now in your case, you was lucky enough to receive a Darwin that DIDNT have a problem with play in the arm or a stiff switch so therefore you have no reason to see it as a negative........but i DID receive one that had a lot of play in the arm and DID have a stiff switch, so therefore i DID have a reason to see it as a negative

why on earth is that so hard to understand??

now if Evolve had bothered to carry out some basic quality control prior to sending the Darwins out to distributors then they would have noticed that the switch was faulty and that the arm had excessive play.......a simple 2 minute fix (as proven by the guy who repaired his own faulty Darwin) by them would have made the review a very different story, so any blame for pointing out those negatives lays solely at their feet and not mine

as for personal attacks......please arrange the following words into a sentence:-

kettle, black, pot, the, calling

the other thread is full of xenophobic and personal insults towards me with regards to my teeth and country of origin.......but if i dare to question your intellect you start getting all upset, sigh

and when a person with a fanboy mentality enters a thread to say that i produced a biased review that only pointed out the negatives, when in fact i pointed out the negatives AS WELL AS the positives then it kinda proves my point really :p

as i have already stated in the review:-

battery life - great

vapour - great

throat hit - great

electronics - great

excessive play in the arm - fact - clearly demonstrated in the video

stiff switch - fact - clearly demonstrated in the video

large gap around the wheel - fact - clearly demonstrated in the video

unable to turn off the device "if" used with tanks - fact - clearly demonstrated in the video

if people cant accept that on my review i pointed out its failings as well as its positives then that is entirely up to them.......it makes no odds to me if the fanboys get upset

there have been plenty of other Darwin fans i have spoken to on the forums, emails, PM's etc etc who have managed to put their point across about their disagreement with my review in a positive and mature way which has led to sensible discussion without resorting to name calling and false accusations........to all those good people, i thank you for your time and mature attitude :)

ive been around ever since 2008 and have faith that the people that matter will see you and the other fanboys actions exactly for what they are..........disgruntled fanboys upset that someone dare say anything negative.

so please feel free to keep bumping this thread all the way to the top

cheers

scott

Scott, again I bump my previous post up.....IMO a "complete and accurate review would have included the above items....so why not do a "complete review"? Just saying.....

I am not a "video reviewer", but in my research of the Darwin (before my purchase), I gleened 200% more information about it than you presented in your video. I even contacted Evolv, which I am sure you did before stating that they have no quality control....just saying....A written critique of your video serves no purpose here, so I will not do it here.....

I will say one thing about your video......you really can "blow" smoke rings.....

This is my last post.

My original thread was not insulting, just stating my opinion that I think it's a crappy review. It was nothing personal, just spoken the same way I'd mention a crappy song or movie.

You could have said i disagree with your opinion, thanks for watching like most reviewers, but instead called me a stupid fanboy. This only provoked more useless arguing and name calling.

As for the other thread, I have no control, and that vendor doesn't even ship to Canada, so I'm not even a customer there.

I have nothing against you personally, but how you handle negative criticism with a personal stab speaks volumes.... Let's agree to disagree and call it a day. I don't think you're a horrible reviewer, just think this one was oddly bad and incomplete.

I never intended for this to turn into an argument, but my first post holds true. I think it was a crappy incomplete review, that focused more on your dislike of it's appearance and speculation then it did on providing the facts needed for people to make purchasing decisions. If I had only seen this review I would have never purchased a Darwin, which is a shame because most who own them will agree that it's the best vape out there right now.

Call me a fanboy or whatever, I don't really care. I just don't feel like you gave this device a fair shake, and maybe I expected a little more from someone who's been around as long as you. Anyways I'm done, it's been fun!

hi mate,

i did reply to you.......here is what i wrote:-

to further add from your original message:-

"constant monitoring of the electronics, the constant monitoring of the ohm's of
the atty/carto, the automatic voltage adjustment due to changes in the ohm's "

this was all mentioned in the review

"difference in the technology between Variable Voltage and Variable power "

but then surely that would no doubt bring it to a Provari vs Darwin situation and would only inflame further accusations wouldnt it?

"the customer service that Evolv provides"

quite simply, i wasnt a customer........so it would be very unfair of me to talk highly OR poorly about customer service if i have not experienced it

the only real thing that i regret about the review is the fact i reviewed a friends Darwin rather than one straight from a supplier........although it was only a week old

but from my point of view if i want to review something and have not been approached by a supplier to do a review then i have no option other than to purchase one

so i had a choice of spending £200 on a device that although sounded fantastic on paper, didnt really appeal to me because of its looks (call me vain, but if i spend £200 then i want to feel that its something i will enjoy looking at as well as vaping! lol)
so when my mate said i could review his new model i jumped at the chance as it meant i could do a review without the need to spend £200

in hindsight, that was not the best choice as i knew that if i had made a purchase or received it in that condition from a supplier then i would have mentioned it and had the Darwin replaced

so, my apologies to the Darwin owners in that respect

but i stand by everything i say in that review as those were my genuine thoughts.........it just simply wasnt one for me in terms of its looks (and my thoughts on its looks are REALLY nothing to be concerned with........people have eyes and can tell for themselves if they like it or not! lol)

maybe one day i will do an updated review on a Darwin that i have purchased myself........though at the moment im reading too many posts about people having to get replacements and how new versions seem to be coming out very often. i would only consider splashing the cash once i know the latest version has reached its pinnacle.......otherwise people will only again say "you reviewed an old model!" lol

cheers

What an oddly designed device. I have to give them points for creativity. However, when it comes to usability and functionality in a device, I think simpler is better. The wattage readout seems pretty cool. Thanks for the thorough review! It was nice to have a closer look at this thing. I had only seen pics of it on vendor websites.

hi mate,

okay i apologise for the fanboy remark, but lets be fair......after posting your reply you did then run straight over to the other thread and post this remark:-

"I couldn't resist taking a shot at that reviewer guy, what a piece of crap haha!"

so from my point of view it was just a case of coming into this thread with the sole intention of causing an argument with me!

and although you may feel that your post to me wasnt "personal", when you accuse me of being biased, falsely stating that i never pointed out any positives, made claims of an unbalanced review and then boasted about your comment to your friends who have been attacking me about my country of origin and teeth then it DOES most certainly feel personal to me! lol

anyway, im more than happy to move on and believe it or not i am genuinely pleased that you and the many others are very happy with your Darwin

peace

cheers

Love the "Make personal attack, receive response, get butthurt over response" going on... it really doesn't matter what they're fanbois of, does it? It's called discrimination, people, not as in the bad, "I hate this because it's got a specific attribute" way, but in , "I'm actually going to be open to ALL aspects of the thing I like, and not attack those that point out it's faults".
