Hello everyone, I am new here. I have been vaping since November of 2012. Started off with the blu's, quickly realized that they were not for me and switched to an ego style system (Actually, switched the the Vea, then to an Ego style system) I have mainly used CE4/5's and VivaNova tanks since I started vaping. No real complaints about the CE's or VivaNova's but decided I wanted to try ta carto based tank. I ordered the Texas Tuff Tank-Pro3 from vapedudes to try out (with 5 spare carto's). After filling the tank and carto, everything seemed fine for the first few vapes. But after the 4th or 5th draw on it I am getting liquid both in my mouth and on the battery. I swapped carto's with a new one and filled the tank without filling the carto, allowing it to set for 30 mins to fill itself, but experienced the same issue. If I let the tank sit for 30 mins, it's fine again for 4-5 draws. Just curious to what I am doing wrong or is this normal. I am using a 24mg, 50/50 PG/VG juice. I do have a heavy draw when I vape, and usually draw for 6-8 seconds.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?
Thanks for any suggestions!

Take a look at the following video to see if you are doing anything different in filling the carto and tank.

Electronic Cigarettes 101: Tank Basics - YouTube

You may have gotten juice in the center airhole when filling the cartomizer. You can blow the carto out from the bottom end (connector end) to clear any juice out. I put a wooden tooth pick in the center hole before filling from the top to avoid this altogether.

How many holes are in the carto? Did you punch the holes yourself, or are they the laser-drilled cartos?

You can't do a hard pull on a cartotank. Gentle, long draws. If you pull too hard with your suction, too much juice enters the cartomizer and ends up flooding it. This is could be why you are getting juice in the center of the tube and into your mouth and on the battery.

It's also a possibility that those are lousy cartos that can't hold their liquid.

Thanks for the video link. Watched a different one before I tried the tank, but it outlined the same procedure for filling. The carto's I am using are pre-punched boge's. Ther are punched, not drilled, and have 2 holes, one on each side. The holes are around 1/16th" or 1.5mm wide. I think I may try a different carto tank that has either single punched/drilled carto's or smaller holes in it. Or I may stick with wick based tanks and clearomizers. Any personal preferences between wick based tanks and carto based tanks?

Hi lladnar550, I found that I like carto tanks but since I am new to vaping I am trying a lot of different flavors. So changing the carto every time I change juice was something I didn't like, when I find a all day juice I will start using it again. Right now I am using a Vivi nova just wash, dry, fill with new flavor and good to go.

I used carto tanks for quite awhile last year. I use the smoktech laser drilled 1.7 dual coil cartos (single hole) and have no leaking or gurgling. I vape a 50/50 mix. I prime the carto before it goes into the tank, use a tank tool so I don't chew up my o rings, and fill with the top on. You do have to take gentle long draws on a carto tank or you will flood it.

Thats the biggest reason I have stuck to clearomizers and vivi's so far. It is easy to change out flavors, and I try a wide range of flavors. I have couple flavors I really like now, like Ice Ice, and I am looking at different tank options. Also, about to get a new battery (eVic), so just looking at different tank options to go on it.

Yeah after reading all of the reply's I think it is very likely that it was the way I was vaping causing the flooding. I may retry the tank later on this weekend after I get some new juice in, and try a gentler draw from it.

Thanks!
