Hey there everybody,

Just figured I'd introduce myself on here. I'm a college student and I've probably smoked for about two years now. As you'd imagine, I'm getting tired of all the vices of smoking analog cigarettes (already haha). I've lurked around the forums for awhile and finally decided to join the community. Here's the deal: I'm still waiting to make the jump to vaping, and I have a quick question. I've read all the threads on the best beginner e-cig but I'm still not sure what decision I should make. I don't want to buy a cheapo e-cig, because I feel that that will just demoralize me to vaping altogether. I'm highly interested in getting myself a GGTS, but it seems to a rather pricey mod with a steep learning curve. That is eventually what I would like to use as my every-day vape. The problem is that I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment considering I'm a college student. Should I wait a few months until I can afford my dream vape, or buy a cheaper one to help me bridge the gap?

Thanks =)

Hi and welcome to ECF! There is a rather wide gap between a cheap disposable and a GG full of great options. What will work for you as a starting point is really going to depend on how much you currently smoke. If you're a light smoker, then something along the lines of a KR808 (such as V4L) might be a good one. If you're a heavier smoker or want something that might be able to go for 1+ day without needing to be recharged you may want to consider something like an eGo or a big batt mod. Don't feel like the kit you start with is going to be the only one you'll ever have or that it is money wasted if you decide to upgrade down the road. The wise usually have a backup laying around and often a backup for that :). Tell us a little about your current smoking habit, do a little research based on the responses and figure out where you want to be in the future and you will be able to avoid a lot of the rookie mistakes usually associated with switching to vapeing. You've already made a great first step by finding this forum where you will get a lot of great info to start your journey in the right direction.

Welcome to ECF & congrats on your decision to kick the butts! I agree with the suggestions of the first two replies, though depending upon your smoking habits & desires not much is carved in stone at this point. I would definitely stay away from gas station ripoff stuff though & get something decent. If you really want a cig-sized rig a KR808 starter kit is probably your best bet, but you'd be better off with a larger battery model. I'm very fond of my E-Power 14650, similar in size to an eGo but without proprietary batteries so cheaper to maintain. There are several others out there about that size & price range getting good reviews, all worth looking into. Just read a bit, get started asap, and keep in mind everything you learn here free is something you won't have to pay to learn in the market. Best of luck & Happy Vaping! :vapor:

Thanks for the quick replies everyone!

I tend to indulge in tobacco fairly heavily, 1-2 packs + 1/2 - 1 can of chew a day. I've tried a few brands of vapes that my friends have (blu, vapor4life, white cloud), and while they offer convenience, I could never really get the full satisfying hit that I was looking for. They just felt a bit strained. I'm not particularly finicky about simulating an analog, so a more flexible vape isn't out of the question. I wouldnt mind puffing on a mag-lite sized e-cig just as long as it gives me a big cloud of vapor that I'm looking for. I tried a reo-grand one time and it gave me more of what I was looking for, but a reo is still in the upper price range... are there any cheap reliable mods that you guys would recommend? Or is that a bad idea for a beginner?

I did the same thing as you - tons of research, afraid to pull the trigger for fear of buying the wrong thing, didn't want to go whole hog at first. After a month, hubby and I have two Echo kits (an Ego-type model with long battery life and big cartos that hold a lot of juice) and two Bloog kits (more cigarette-like, for backup, but much less battery life and more frequent fill-up required). Both are 808 threaded, so everything works together. But the 510 thread world is much bigger in terms of what's out there, I believe, so keep that in mind.

I would suggest maybe getting a cheaper midrange e-cig while you keep researching and trying liquids (you can spend a LOT of $ there)....I wouldn't go for the top-of-the-line mods at first. You may find you're happy with something in between. And you need to find your tweak/tinker comfort level. Some things need more attention than others, I discovered in my research.

All good advice. As mentioned above GGTS is a wonderful mod but on the expensive side. I would start right away with something cheaper, someone mentioned KGO, good idea. Some others like the eGo-T/C to start with. A GGTS is something you can work towards to.
Looking at how I started, I did manage to waste some money on a cheaper starter mod but learned alot and found what e-juice I liked and what set-up was right for me. So in the end, I guess it was money well spent. Important thing is quitting analogs. One step at a time, keeping it simple is the best advice I can give you.

Sounds like you are definitely going to be better served by a big battery mod. I'd also recommend looking into dual coil cartos for increased vapor production and possibly carto tanks for increased liquid capacity to get you through the day.

Also, if you find some of those pesky cravings popping up even after you dial in your juice strength you should look into some of the different brands of snus out there. It would also be a good way to transition away from the cans of chew.
