Hi all!
I've been vaping on and off for a couple of years now, unfortunately often ending back up on cigarettes for one reason or another.
Anyway, I picked up an Itaste VTR (army green) couple of days ago and I have to say I'm VERY impressed with it. I've decided that I'm not massively fond of the plastic iclear 30s tank that comes as stock with it so I've ordered a Kanger Protank 2. Can anyone tell me if they have used this setup? Is it a decent tank? What's the fit like on the VTR?
Also is it worth getting the airflow control valve as I've heard that the protank 2 draws quite tight?
Thanks in advance for any replies and I look forward to posting more in the forums.

I used the Pro Tank after the evod. Yes the draw is kind of tight.

What kind of battery are you using? An ego T or a battery with a standard 510?

How do you like to vape? Restrictive mouth to lung hits or more open lung hits

I can better direct you after I know a little more about your gear and preferences.

I'm using an Efest 18650 high drain. Which I admit I bought because the guy in my regular vape shop recommended it. Seems to hold charge well so far (using for 48 hours on a single charge and only showing Amber on the light indicator and I'm a relatively heavy vaper.
I would say I vape more restrictive, I prefer a slightly tighter draw but I've heard that the protank 2 can be too tight.
Apologies if I'm being to vague.

The VTR will power a Protank 2.

It's OK... better than the Protank 1 and 3. (That was lucky! :) )

Other than that, you could buy the airflow base for the PT2 if you find it too tight.
(some people bought as many bases as tanks they already owned)..but it's still an old-tech vape tank. The coils don't last very well & they might/will let some liquid leak down through the 510 and, well, you need to be careful.

*for me* the best thing that happened since mid 2014 was the arrival of tanks that had a sealed base and used side airflow. Not only did this give a freer vape, but leaking wouldn't be so dangerous for your batteries and mods.

The VTR is a very expensive mod these days.. I don't think if I would call that good. Depends on how you put a price on things. The iTaste 134 mod is now stupid money... hard to believe such old tech items have become comparatively so expensive (rarity?) when most of them are really outdated and under-powered.

Thinking a bit more positively -
The VTR goes to 6.0v or 15 watts. For my money, that makes it perfect for plenty of other tanks that fit through the ring. The mini Nautilus won't fit, not without modding.

I bet there are some slim eleaf tanks that do though. :)

So you have a regular mod with 18650 batteries. And you like a restrictive vape.

Now I can help you.

Most of the Protank coils use silica wicks and they work but leave much to be desired in the flavor Dept. The Protank 2 will give you the nicotine you crave and would probably work fine.

BUT if it were me leaving the tank you are using; I would go with the Nautilus MINI.
It has organic cotton wicks that you have to saturate with ejuice before you start vaping or the cotton will burn and that tastes nasty.

However the flavor of your juice will really come through and be a quantum leap ahead of silica wicks.

Now about your batteries.

Efest batteries are not very good. The guy at the vape shop didn't do you any favors.

If your batteries get very hit u would recommend replacing them with better batteries.

@Mooch here is a battery expert and he tests batteries.

You should read up on his battery reviews and go from there.

I prefer Samsung25r batteries, and recently picked up some LG high drain batteries. Sony babd Panasonic if memory serves makes very good batteries too. But then u am NOT the battery expert that mooch is.

I hated the Protank 3. The drip tip was too loose. Going down town on the bus. The driver slammed on the brakes and my Protank 3 hit the seat in front of me. The tip popped off my Protank 3 and rolled under the seats and never found the darn tip.

Don't even get me started @Two_Bears

Everything "3" was a disaster. I can't remember the drip tip business, but the dual coils were only ever good on decent mods. PT3, mini PT3, Evod 2, T3D - all weak-vaping, battery-killing tanks. Good idea in principle, but no good for eGO batteries.

(Actually, I think I do remember the wobbly drip-tip) :grr:

I have a feeling the mini Nautilus doesn't fit through the ring on the VTR. (too wide across the airflow). :?:

That would be an awesome pairing though.

The coils were a little better but they still used the silica wicks at least when I used it.

IMHO best Protank made was the Areo.

They just used an O ring too small on the PT3.

I have a VTR. It's a nice low power rig. I especially liked the shrouded tank for pocket carry. I still use it on fishing trips and mowing the lawn, that sort of thing. Personally, I preferred the Kanger Aerotank to the Protank as I found the Protank's too-restrictive draw annoying. YMMV. Nowadays, I'm well beyond either. I like my tanks much freer breathing. Unfortunately, I have no idea at all regarding the fitment of the Protank down in the tank base of the VTR; it might be necessary to use the extension. In the VTR I use the Innokin iClear X.I tank. This has a pyrex barrel and is a BDC Clearomizer. I think it far superior to the Protank in every way. You should be able to get one cheap if you are a mind. All that gear is 2 or 3 technology generations old now.

Thanks for all the replies and advice folks, very helpful :)
I know the VTR is an old bit of kit nowadays, but to be honest, I like the weight and feel of it in my hand. It looks stunning and I've wanted one for a while now. I like the steampunk look and it does vape well. It handles my needs and was a bargain at £49 (with the battery and charger included) in my book :)

£49 would have got you a 75 watt temp control mod with free pizza delivery, wi-fi connectivity and 10% off at Morrisons.... and a tank as well...

but hey... you like it! That's all that matters.

I paid £49.99 for an eVic (1st model)... can't explain why.... call me a sadist buying Joyetech junk. My first eVic was £100 and lasted 139 days. That's the old days for you. :grr:

I'd also like to add that I've just purchased a Samsung 25R battery for my VTR. Seems like the efest batteries are sub par after doing a little research!

What you had was fine (honestly) but some extras is wise.
18650s won't be banned in May 2016. Tanks will though, and you need to get into RTA/RBA ASAP.

Could not agree more.

The VG, PG, 18650 batteries are NOT going away. Tanks. RTAs, RDAs, premade coil, ejuice, nicotine and flavors for ejuice probably will.

Don't be a coulda shoukda people singing the blues.
