Hi everyone:

I just stumbled on this forum and it seems great. I wish I had found it earlier!

I was a heavy smoker for a long time, but started using e-cigs in January of this year and have not had a traditional cigarette since. I am very pleased about being "smoke free."

I will be interested to read up and learn more about the products that are available. I have tried a couple of brands of e-cigs and don't think I have found the best yet.

Welcome to ECF and congrats on giving up ciggies. I have been analog free for 2 months now. Pretty easy for me so far....just spending too much money on all of the "accessories" lol. I mix my own juice so it added up quickly, but I'm good on supplies for a while now. There are a few items that I do want to get to try out... addicting I tell ya :)

Welcome! Glad you're on the road to a smoke free life! Read, read, read....knowledge is the key to not spending more than you really want to. There are many styles of PV's to choose from. Some better than others, some...not so much! :) Enjoy and feel free to ask questions as needed, you'll find that most everyone here has a good knowledge base and great advise.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. After 35 years of 1+ pack/day, I'm happy to say I haven't had a tobacco cig (analog? - there's terminology I need to learn) since January. I couldn't be happier about that!

I'm on my 3'rd brand of e-cigs and still don't have the hardware worked out all the way. And I'm shopping again since I had a recharger die a couple of days ago. (I have a usb recharger which is keeping me going, but 1) it doesn't work all that well and 2) if it dies, I'm out of luck.) So I would like to find a brand that really works for me.

My first goal with this was to get off the tobacco, and that seems to be working. My next goal is to save some $$'s. And it sounds like this group has the knowledge to accomplish that. I don't really understand what "mods" are or what you can do to "diy." But I will try to read up and get some knowledge before I pester you all with a lot of uninformed questions.

One initial question though: Does anyone know of a brick and mortar shop in Washington DC that sells various brands of e-cigs? I have discovered that 7-11 stores here sell the "nJoy" brand. This came in really handy when an order of cartridges got lost in the mail. But it would be great to compare several options in the flesh.

Anyway - Thanks again!

I'm not in the DC area but I can tell you that smoke shops do sell kits and/or disposable e-cigs. Unfortunately it's usually not a brand that you'll find as common as the ones that are primarily used by those on the forum. That's not to say that there isn't ANY--just few. I know how you feel about wanting to pick it up and scrutinize it with your own eyes, but don't get too hung up on that. For me, I read for a good two solid weeks and then made my choice based on my own wants and needs. I chose a 510 model (1st generation) and it still works today. Now those same styles have been improved upon several times so you'll definitely benefit from the changes.

Try not to go the same route that most of us did--"I want it to look like a cigarette, taste like a cigarette, and work like a cigarette." You're not smoking anymore. Don't get them confused! ;) Cost is certainly a factor but you'll find that you get what you pay for. Oddly, if you purchase from a brick and mortar or a mall kiosk you'll probably pay more than you would online. The juices are not even close in the quality department and the selection is slim. By purchasing online you'll have much, much more to choose from, and by reading the forum "New Members" area you'll bypass a lot of costly mistakes.

Here are some good threads to start with, but honestly there are tons of information out there. For me, the more I read, the more I learned that there are about 10 really good models to choose from and a handful of excellent mods. Research, research, research!

Best of luck to you all!!

Welcome aboard and congrats on becoming analog free. Here's a link to a local group you could check out. Don't know how active they are, but here in our Phoenix chapter, we have monthly meet ups, where we get together, have a few drinks, hang out and exchange thoughts on vaping. There are flavors to test, and everyone shows their latest gadgets...good times..maybe the dc group is similar.

Good luck.
