Hi everyone, I am here because I really need help getting off real cigarettes.
I am 49 and have been addicted to smoking since I was 9 years old.
I have made several attempts to switch over to electronic cigarettes or mods over the years and have not yet been able to stop smoking real cigarettes for more than two weeks at a time.
It is safe to say I have not enjoyed a real cigarette for years because I hate the smell I hate the taste I hate yellow fingers and I hate what I am doing to anyone that comes around me while I am smoking.
So I am determined to finally put my real cigarettes down forever and hopefully eventually one day put down my vape.
I will be doing a lot of reading on this site and I hope to learn what I need to accomplish my goals.

Welcome aboard!

It can be done. I smoked for 50 years and never thought I'd get off of it.

There'll be a lot of good advice here, and different people will have different ideas on how to beat tobacco.

You might have to try different vaping styles til you find what works for you and you may even smoke a few cigarettes before you do find your ideal - just don't beat yourself up and see that as a "failure" - it isn't.

Its the cigarettes you DON'T smoke that count not the odd ones you may relapse to!

All the best and good wishes.

Welcome @EaOutlaw1969 We're a very friendly helpful bunch here so you'll get lots of support.

I was a really terrible chain smoker and I did it :)

I would do some reading here as there are lots of different opinions here...but if the satisfaction element of smoking is the things that's difficult then I would suggest a starter device that you can use high strength nic salts in...something like the finic fish. I'm a direct lung sub-ohm vaper but i use my 36mg/ml nic salts in a pod and honestly if i puff that first thing it definitely gives that aaaaah yes feeling...like the first cig in the day...

Here's a pic of one of my pods (I have several different types) Hope it helps...

I quit a 35 year smoking addiction. For me the transition was fairly easy, but others find it more difficult.

The name of this game is to get enough nic, and you’ll need to be open to trying different gear and different approaches to get there.

Mtl is generally a good recommendation to begin with, but it doesn’t work for everyone, and maybe for you dl will. The kroma-a gets a lot of love here, and you might try that.

The innoken Zenith is a nice mtl tank, and you can pair that with any mod.

If you want to try dl, there are oodles of nice kits out there... I have some Picos and a range of Vaporesso kits. All very nice and none insanely expensive.

Some vendors I like are vapor range, eight vape, my freedom smokes, fasttech. But you’ll find bunches of them mentioned all over the forums.

Just find what appeals, get a high enough nic, and vape when you want a smoke. Good luck!

Welcome aboard, this is a great site to learn from. As Delores pointed out above it is important to find the vape style that fits your needs.

MTL (mouth to lung)-- generally a delivery system that uses higher nic due to it being a "weaker" delivery system. The pull on this is generally a tight draw and the "clouds" are generally smaller.

DL or DTL (direct to lung)-- this generally uses lower nic and it's a higher watt (stronger) delivery system that has larger "clouds".

Welcome From the Panhandle.. I quit after 35 years myself.. Best advise i could give you is dont chase the trends! . what you need to simulate is smoking is a good MTL(Mouth to Lung) set up and an aggressive amount of nicotine to quench your craving i used 24mg and then after a couple weeks i dropped to 18mg, months later 12, 6, 3mg. Worked for me. Now a days they have these pod systems that are handy as hell. i personally like the Vladdin RE & The Smok Infinix... easy and cheap to maintain. its more of a hobby than anything i can go all day without if i choose to.

You can do it!!!

hello and welcome to ecf....
we're here to help

let's get some info.... vaping is about personal preferences so
do you want something small and discrete or something a bit bigger with better battery life
there are pods, that are small and easy to use, they can be prefilled or refillable. but these tend to be more costly in the long run
there are small mods but the battery life isn't that great
there are a bit bigger mods, better for battery life
do you want an internal battery mod (usually best for new vapers) or an external battery mod (if you are comfortable with it) external battery is better because once the internal battery dies the mod is useless, but external, you just get a new battery
I'm assuming that you want a mtl (mouth to lung) tank, similar to the way that you smoke, more of a tight draw less airy.... or would you want something more airy with a dl (direct lung hit)

then of course there is juice....if you aren't really happy with smoking i'd suggest staying away from tobacco flavors, but if you like the taste just not the smell then go for it.... I would suggest getting at least an 18mg nic juice if not 24mg, in regular nic this will give you still the throat hit like smoking and get a 50/50 pg/vg ratio
if you want less throat hit you can get i higher vg ratio and you can try nic salts as they tend not to have a throat hit and you can get higher nic levels to help with the cravings better

Welcome! I smoked 25+ a day for 40+ years. Began vaping at the age of 64 in August 2017. I dual used (smoked and vaped) for about nine months. As of today I haven't smoked a cigarette in exactly eleven months. So, it is doable.

I second those who recommend getting a good mtl device (and a back up) and going high nicotine at first. I started at 24mg. I did reduce that gradually, and am now vaping at 3 or 6 depending on the device. Drink a lot of water.

Good luck!

Welcome and glad you joined.
Good plan, since your fairly familiar with equipment, you might want to concentrate on finding a good vape flavor category that will tantalize your taste buds. Tobaccos worked for me and may work for you. Could start off your reading with:
