Welcome Kelli! I'm rather new to the forum myself and just received a similar setup in the mail as the one Tom suggested. I'm loving it and probably could have saved $100's if I had came here first!

Maybe Tom can chime in here but I purchased the Kanger EVOD tank simply because they were new and there are plenty of atomizer heads in stock.

    Looks fine and probably is.
It only holds 2ml and the t3 holds 2.8ml. For me that's a deal breaker.
I don't like constantly filling units. I've found 2ml just isn't enough based on my vaping habits.

I've seen a lot of differences between different models made by the same company, so while the EVOD is probably a good solution, I cant' recommend it because I haven't tried it, and I won't try it because it doesn't hold enough liquid. I should add that first impressions aren't always reliable. I didn't feel comfortable recommending the t3 until I had used more than 4 of them and been vaping around 2 months.

My rule of thumb is once I find something that works for me I stick with it for awhile. The Vivi Nova was flawed which is the reason why I tried the Kanger.
The Kanger t3 is the best I've found, so I don't feel the need to try anything different

By the way I added a tobacco extract to my liquid a few days ago and the Kanger T3 felt a little clogged, I boiled it for 5 minutes and now it's refreshed. So if you feel it's clogged try just boiling in regular water, that may extend the life.

One other tip, never fill a clearomizer all the way to the top, leave around 1/4 of space. I don't have problems with gurgling and think that filling to the top may cause sputtering or gurgling.

Welcome kelli! You'll enjoy it here, lots of experienced vapers willing to help. It did not take me long either in deciding to make the switch to something other than the ciga-like models. After getting some advice I too am going with the Ego Twist. Ordered it TODAY in fact. :) Patience is a virtue, patience is a virtue...

tomzgreat, awesome advice for noobs like us. Glad I found this thread!

Tom's recommendation is solid but I would add one thing: Smoketech XL 1.7ohm cartomizers for when those clearomizers just don't work as well as they should. I use both the cartos and the clearomizers but the cartos are more reliable, in my opinion. You can get them from Crystal Clear Vaping, Hoosier, Virgin Vapor, etc. with a bulk discount if you buy 15 (3x5pk).

I'm going on 2-3 months with the Kanger t3 and not a single bad one. Knock on wood.
Clearomizers and Cartomizers work on a different wicking system.

Clearomizers absorb the liquid through a string wicking system. It's a fairly clean process.

Cartomizers are generally filled with a polyester type of material, and you fill them up and the polyester absorbs the liquid.

    I don't' Like/Use Cartomizers for two reasons.

    1. Taste- I can taste the plastic and I think it's nasty. If you've never used a clearomizer you might not notice, but if you've used a clearomizer, there is a definite taste difference

    2. Health. I don't trust burning, melting, degrading plastics to be safe to inhale. This is conjecture and and opinion on my part, but the Poly material in a cartomizer is heated up and I've noticed that after a period of time, the filler material will shrink. Where is it going? I don't like to think.

I can't recommend Cartomizers with good conscience to anyone. I Vape for pleasure and for my health and I worry that cartomizers may negate the health part.

Thanks for the compliment, I noticed that you joined this month. Welcome to the vaping world.
I agree, the Cig-Like models just don't cut it. By the way I'm the same as all of you guys, my first unit bought on the internet was a ciga like model. I can still remember only getting 2 hours or so out of it. And the puny vapor. It didn't take me long to find the forum either and buy a real device.

Back 4 years ago, you didn't have the selection that you have today. The Egos were a puny 650mah or less and VV didn't exist. The hardware quality was deplorable. You could go with a Prodigy at over $100.00 a pop and still have problems.

The $75.00 - $100.00 range was all garbage.

In addition the Cartomizers were less sophisticated, I found a sweet spot of 5V with an 801. This required more sophisticated harware. Now a days the Clearomizers are 2.3Ohm and the sweet spot is from 3.75 to 4.5 depending your taste and your liquid.

My first expensive and good purchase was the Golden Greek but it was mechanical, and after a year it needed maintenance. I did well because I bought it for $150.00 - $175.00 and later sold it to a guy for $50.00, he cleaned it up and was a happy camper.

The first truly fine units was/is the Provari. I have one but hardly use it. It's not right for the beginner because it's just too expensive and the form factor is much bigger. But it is worth it. My Provari lasted for over a year, but than the low res clearomizers came out and destroyed the circuit board. I had it repaired and it still works to this day.

I really am betraying my age, I'm one of the few who have vaped long enough to wear out a Provari!!

I would be a Provari user today except that I needed a backup while in the shop so I made a hobby of trying to find a inexpensive unit in the $70.00-$100.00 range.

The first unit I bought was a Lava Tube type and returned it because in the first 1/2 hour I opened my Vivi Nova and liquid spilled on it. It wasn't water tight, liquid got inside and the next thing you know it was literally smoking, quickly I unscrewed the battery.

Man I spent hours on the forums researching and just couldn't find a consensus of Provari Quality at that price point. Than I ran across an isolated post on the SmokTek Varicool, not to be confused with Smoktech, I checked it out and it had very good reviews. My Provari came back but I stuck with the Smoktek Varicool because I liked the smaller form factor

It's a box mod Click Here which I wrote extensive review on Click Here. I like that the Box is small and compact and it's very efficient, with the two 14500 batteries I go a day and 1/2 or so of Heavy vaping. I ordered the batteries for less than $5.00 a piece on deal Extreme and I use a Xtar WP2 Charger that I picked up for around $20.00

I didn't recommend it for a beginner, because the shape is a box and many want the Cigarette shape, also it's more complicated, you have to deal with Batteries and separate battery chargers and it's more expensive. The Logical 2nd step from the cig like mods is the Ego Twist C. When I was in a vaping shop/lounge the other day, I met a person vaping who had been using the Ego Twist since it came out and felt no need to change.

I've been using my box mod for 6 Months and it still works great, but I don't abuse my unit either, I carry it around in a vest with a loose top pocket. Since it lasted 6 month, I figure that it is going to end up more economical than the Provari.

For Step 3, check out the Provari or the Smoktek Varicool. There is a world of solutions for Step 3. I was in the store the other day and they had a box shaped unit for around $80.00 with a 3,000mah battery built in that would last forever. You can even use it to charge your Cel Phone, I was tempted but I compared the form factor and my box mod was way smaller.

I would never have tried the box mod, or Lava except my Provari was in the shop.

I have enough clearomizers and refills to last 3 months. Enough eliquid to last around 4 months. 4 rotations of batteries. 2 quality chargers.

I always carry a bottle of liquid with me and two sets of replacement batteries. The 14500 are very small.

And I have 4 backup units.

I forgot my ecig one day and within an hour [Nic Fit City] I had to drive home from the office and pick it up, so now I keep a backup unit in the office.!

Here is what I have found so far..Ego batteries, (2)(around $12-13 a piece) and a couple of chargers (around $5)and blank cartomizers a couple of boxes..(around $6 for 5)(they normally last 4-5 days depending on how often you vape) ..You dont need a kit, because you wont always use everything..I'm not a big fan of tanks on the go, because of the size..I also have some Vision Nano clearomizers.(gotvapes)....litecig is great on prices for Boge cartomizers and Ego batteries...you will need to watch some video's on how to fill etc...Honestly it takes a while before you are a pro..I carry a qtip in my bag to swipe battery if I overfill my carto. There is lots of good advice on here, depends on what you like..Look around , and watch some videos on vendor sites or youtube..Juices are personal preference, depending on the flavors you like..Best to order sample packs before ordering big bottles in case you dont like them..And take long time vapors on here advice, since they have normally tried a lot of them..I have been vaping off and on for 3 years, full time now for a while...so do several of my friends..I have tried a lot of sample packs and my personal favorite juice is Boba's Bounty from AVE..

so now i have several shopping carts poised to order sample packs of juice when i am ready. soon i will get a backup battery and try to get some replacement coils. then i should be set! i appreciate you guys so much, especially tom. i am now a vaping .....!!! :vapor:

That's interesting. The drawbacks you cite for cartomizers are how I feel about clearomizers: they have an odd plastic taste and they are not reliable. That has been my experience.

A SmokTech 1.7ohm XL carto is nirvana. No off taste for me at all.
