Been lurking for about a week waiting for my stuff to arrive and figuring out what to get after a co-worker who'se a recent convert got me thinking about using a PV to kick my "stinky" habit.

I've been smoking on and off for 12 years (WOAH typing that out makes me really sad actually, as I "wasn't going to get addicted" when I started"). For the past year or 2 I've been trying to hide it from my wife and usually only smoke at work. I've tried quitting cold turkey and just cant kick it for more than a week or maybe even 3 weeks max.. but I get stressed at work or home and the next ride into work I'm picking up a pack of smokes from the gas station. It's time to stop putting all that nasty stuff in my lungs.. even if using a PG isn't the best thing for me, it's still got to be better than smokes and tar and all that crap that I put into my lungs. The second reason is the cost.. In NYS a pack o smokes is close to $10.. from what I've read a $5-$10 10ml bottle of juice is about equiv to 7-10 cartons.. so with my current setup of around $60 including 2 bottles I'll be at a BE point in less than 2 months (depending on how quick I use my cartos) . (unless I catch the vapors :vapor:of this hobby and start throwing money at all sorts of stuff)

The other nice bonus of vaping is when I'm sitting at home at night and drinking I can hit the vape without going outside, then brushing my teeth 6 times and showering to try and hide the smell.

My setup for now.
1 1000maH ego twist
5 Boge cartos
1 tip
2 bottles of juice, May pick up 1 more at the local shop this week sometime.

Hopefully I can keep off of stinkies, and cut down on the nic (Although I'm using a "med" amount right now)

edit: I was really bummed that the stuff didn't' show up yesterday.. bought a pack of stinkies to get me through the day yesterday.

Welcome to the forum as a poster and the wonderful world of vaping.

You are way off with 10ml equals 7-10 cartons. It never translates to cigarettes exactly because of a ton of variables and styles, but vapers vape mostly between 1-6 ml per day and a lot depends on your level of nicotine. Some prefer to vape less at higher levels while some do the opposite.

Don't worry about an extra pack or so, it'll get there. Hopefully it is coming USPS so you get a delivery tomorrow.

PS. You are going to need a back up battery ASAP.

Greetings from Canada! Welcome to ECF!

When they talk about "equal to" they are referring to the amount of nicotine the juice contains compared to cigarettes. Most people vape at least twice the amount of nicotine that they got while smoking. Maybe even more to start. So that skews the math, somewhat!

Regardless, you will find what is right for you. That's one of the things (the other is the flavors) that makes this work for smokers. It is not like a patch, everyone does not get the same dose and have to put up with it. You are free to find (just like smoking) how much you need today. Every day is not the same, but you are in control of how much you get! It works!

Relax, Enjoy!

Kickbassvapor has 30ml bottles for like 14 bucks, hell yeah.

And everyone else is right, you ARE going to need a backup battery while the other charges. Especially coming right from smokes, your going to want that instant fix so a readily device is pretty much needed.

Good luck and enjoy, vaping has changed my life.

You WILL need another battery to make a successful transition.
A few things I want to comment on are -

A: Do not concern yourself with lowering nicotine levels especially at this time.If that is a goal for later , thats great . I still vape 24mg/ml over a year and a half later.I started at 36 mg/ml. The key is ,it works for me. I'm not and have no desire to smoke tobacco anymore. Find what works for YOU.

B: If you decide to continue vaping ,you do not have to go hog wild and by the latest and greatest pv out. Many are quite happy with their initial setup . Some want more out of their vaping experience or are curious about other pvs and other liquid delivery systems.
Fact is , unless you find the juice you looooveee right off the bat, (very few have) , "breaking even" is a way off.

C: You have chosen good equipment to start on a successful vaping journey. As smokers , we were programmed to feel guilty about our habit/addiction. Even if you must have a cig when vaping, smoke the darn thing. Don't feel like you have failed . This isn't a contest or about bragging rights. It's about a safer alternative to smoking . Even if you smoke some nails, every time you choose to vape instead of smoke is a victory. In time or maybe right away ,you may just find you have no desire to smoke.

You have a fantastic support group here on ecf. We have all been in your shoes. Welcome to the fold. When you have time read the legislative threads and educate yourself about CASAA.

Good luck getting started.

Welcome! I am new to this myself. I started using my new PV 1 week ago and have been off analogs for 4 days, got 8 packs and a zippo right next to me and no desire to smoke them. This is working out great so far. I just got some new juices today and there is a huge difference in quality/ suppliers, so try several flavors from several suppliers when you can. And good luck!

Congrats on the purchase! That is quite a good first setup. Great replies above too. I second the need for another battery, even when your smoking is as irregular as you say.

Until you find your personal liquid strength, taste, voltage, and puffing style, I don't think it is reasonable to expect not wanting to smoke. For me it took a while until I got the hang of using this stuff, but when I did, I suddenly realized I hadn't smoked for a week. And that was it. No decision, no funerals, no nothing. I just forgot.

The "equivalent to a pack of cigarettes" is something I was trying to wrap my head around in the beginning, but I had to give in to the fact that vaping is not comparable. The only sensible way to compare would be the satisfaction level, and that is the most personal measure of them all. There is just no comparison. Vaping allows me to take three short puffs when appropriate, and even that will give me satisfaction. Nobody lights up a cig just to take three short puffs and toss it away.

I did try a cigarette last week just to see what it tastes like now. Let me tell you, after 10 months of vaping, it was pretty horrible. I much, MUCH rather vape. And boy am I happy about that!

You should get a backup battery. You definitely don't want to be charging your battery at night (which can be very dangerous). When you're not vaping and you don't want to take time off vaping to charge it for up to 4 hours.

You can get a 900mah EGO Twist at VaporBeast for $18 and free shipping here:
http://www.vaporbeast.com/product_p/a28.htm

It's the best price on the market. Tell Tim that Shoga sent you. You may even get a bonus prize if you're lucky.

That said, Boges are awesome cartos. Good vapor production, and they last forever. Literally, forever. Mine are over 6 months old and through repeated cleanings they are still vaping strong. I bought 10 when I first started. All 10 still work but 2 developed a "burnt taste" so I don't use them any more. The Boge cartomizer is a diehard unit. You can learn about how to clean them, and reuse them right away, for optimal performance in the Vaper's Handbook link in my signature below.

Ok, so now that you have those, cool. You may be asking yourself what's the next step. The answer to that is the Clearomizer. There are two clearomizers on the market that stand above the rest. They are the E1-V which you can get at DiscountVapers.com and the Vivi Nova Mini which you can get almost anywhere but also at DiscountVapers.com .
The E1-V is the superior of the two clearomizers with better looks, better flavor, and better construction. The Vivi Nova Mini is almost as good and works in a pinch but it's definitely uglier and you may want to get a collar/sleeve for your ego cone threads when you use it. You can rebuild both of these clearomizers and save a ton of money. Details how to do so are once again found in the Vaper's Handbook.

You can also learn about battery safety in the Handbook as well which will explain exactly why you shouldn't be charging your batteries unattended.

Thanks guys, I know a second battery should be in the cards, and but one of the bonuses of being at work with 2 other vaping coworkers is that they have 510s with backups as well if I need to use one. I still need to try a few different delivery methods, and I picked up the LR Boge 510s because they aren't super expensive and are highly recommended. Do clearos give a better taste than cartos? I or is it subject / personal?
I know that the Pack equivalent isn't perfect, I was just using it to justify my new world.
Luckily I have a local vape shop in case I get low on juice or cartos or I think I need a new battery. Honestly I'd rather toss an extra $10 around ever once in awhile to keep the store around for emergency.

Edit: I think my only misstep was getting 50/50 liquid which may drop the life of my carto.

I am aware that charging overnight is an issue, and I plan on charging at work or when I get home from work, also I made sure to get a real joye to hopefully reduce the risk of battery problems.

Also I've seen the whole carto cleaning thing, but but at $2 - each is it worth the trouble of boiling and drying? Can you just re stuff them? Or are the coils too entrenched in the stuffing?

Almost all aspects of vaping is personal... In my mind yes, definitely. I have never liked any of the wadding filled cartomizers, even though the Kanger did get great reviews.

Because of the VG element, or what do you mean? I use 70-100% VG juices 'cause I sometimes got slight allergic reactions from the PG. I wouldn't worry about the VG (or PG) dropping a carto's life. I think it is a lot more important to keep the vaping experience as satisfying as possible.

Wadded cartomizers are too difficult to rebuild, even for most experienced tweakers. For the boiling, the $2 gets multiplied enough to make washing worth it. I wash and clean all my atos multiple times, and even recoil the Stardust and the changeable atomizer heads on a T2.

I wonder if my local vapor lounge will let me try the difference between cartos clearos and atomizer with cart.

Yes because of the thickness of the vg. But damn do I get a ton of vapor from it.

Maybe I'll give cleaning a go once I have enough in rotation. When should I clean? Probably before I burn them I assume.

I must say thankfully my Co worker did a lot of ecf reading so at least I didn't get super confused when it came to what is what as well as some decent starting brands.
