I started with PureSmoke, it was the only thing I could buy locally. I've been looking in the DIY forums but the caliber of what I want to do is, um, banned. Not that I disagree with the ban as the knowledge in the wrong hands (or even the right ones on a bad day) can be real bad. None the less, once I get some base formulations down pat expect to see me reading and posting daily. As one of my R&D stints was in cosmetics, expect to see a wave of some great new and creative flavors and even a few "features" I am not willing to disclose at this time.

I don't work for the FDA, I work in quality control, so to speak in a way I represent the FDA because my loyalties are to the customer and the law. My ambitions however do include FDA QA/QC compliance in the hopes of leading the persuasion for regulation and full legality.

Andrew,

Please do not mistake my following question as an attack on you or your motives in the least. I am actually more curious as to your answer.

At the end of your post you used the word "regulation", what exactly do you mean by that?

As a biochemist, how much (or little) and in what way do you feel there should be regulation?

Again, not an attack just curious about what your honest opinions are and the reasoning behind them.

Cheers,
VMS

Glad to have you on board, R&D!
I know what you're saying. Mark Twain said it best; "It's easy to quit smoking, I've done it several times".
Well, hang in there and stay away from those "stinkies" and improve your health.
Good luck with your e-juice endeavors!

P.S. Not many of us here on the forum are so anxious to see any FDA regulations muddling up the mix.
One of my favorites: "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you".

Many of you have asked for an update on my intent. Someone asked about regulation, while I dislike the FDA like the next person they are an inevitable fact of life in our nation. They also pay my bills because without their heavy handedness my company would have no use for me. Sooner or later, they will regulate whether we like it or not. The question is...will we be ready? Oh...and regulation could be a good thing also, to give you an example lets look at infant formula. In the US it is FDA regulated to the strictest levels, more then drugs, more then medicine, more then food. In China they are not. The US makes the best infant formula in the world....in china they substituted poisons that analyze like nutrients because its cheaper and they unsuccessfully crossed their fingers that no one would get hurt. Do you want some fly by night guy substituting your PG for Ethlene Glycol because its cheaper...I hope not because EG is a toxin almost identical to the harmless PG....think antifreeze 20 years ago.

In the mean time, I have been quiet on the forums, I have been researching and researching e-cigs from a scientific perspective. Business being business I can't disclose some of the very exciting things that are going on here but they involve some really great, well respected american iconic companies. Me meeting them was an accident, a friend of a friend expect the world of E-Cigs to get real interesting with some serious funding for R&D if everything works out....and yes, you will get your "real" menthol if that much capitol starts flowing.

My biggest fear regarding "regulation" is that some jerk is going to decide that it's dangerous for me to vape e-liquid that's greater that 8mg nicotine -- or that I'm too inexperienced to buy and mix 100mg nicotine at my dining room table.

I wouldn't mind having some checks in place to make sure I'm getting what I think I'm getting when I order online.
