Hi Everyone,

My name is Andrew. My neighbor just got me into e-cigs and this forum. I've been a smoker for 10 years, a perpetual quitter for about 5 of those. I'm also extremely active, a former professional athlete, and still athletic most days of the week, the smoke has been catching up to me as I get older.

I started the other day with the patch again, saw his vape, tried it and said, why torture myself, I'm just going to have a beer and go back to smoking anyway...so lets go with the vape.

Anyway, aside from some conflicting hobbies I am also a chemist, biochemist to be specific. I have worked in R&D, run an EPA laboratory and currently (because I wanted to relocate to the greenest pastures) took a demotion working in an FDA laboratory. As you can imagine, ultimately, with colaboration with my neighbor, want to start producing some high quality vaping fluids. I've dealt with nicotine, formulated fragrances and flavors and now if not become a contributing player in an emerging community at least get myself some great "smokes"

I started with PureSmoke, it was the only thing I could buy locally. I've been looking in the DIY forums but the caliber of what I want to do is, um, banned. Not that I disagree with the ban as the knowledge in the wrong hands (or even the right ones on a bad day) can be real bad. None the less, once I get some base formulations down pat expect to see me reading and posting daily. As one of my R&D stints was in cosmetics, expect to see a wave of some great new and creative flavors and even a few "features" I am not willing to disclose at this time.

I don't work for the FDA, I work in quality control, so to speak in a way I represent the FDA because my loyalties are to the customer and the law. My ambitions however do include FDA QA/QC compliance in the hopes of leading the persuasion for regulation and full legality.

Puresmoke is a great company with some quality products. Good to see you started out at a great place.
We look forward to hearing your thoughts and possibly seeing some 'features' down the road.

Hello Andrew,

frequency: a lot of people have stated that when they first started using their PV, they preferred to use their PV more often than cigarettes; for many this just means they had more PV sessions per day than they had “cigarette sessions” per day; it does not mean they absorbed more nicotine per session or per day...

amount: I think you will find that adjusting your absorption of nicotine to where you want it to be is as easy to do with a PV as it is with cigarettes (don't feel bad if you have some cigs while figuring it out). "long time" users of a PV sometimes reduce the nicotine in their solution and increase the number of draws per day compared to when they first started, others increase the nicotine and reduce the number of draws, some increase or decrease one and leave the other unchanged, some increase both, some decrease both, and some stay the same (I think that covered all possibilities).

observation: i've been doing this for only two weeks (Joye eGo Type B and a ProtoPype), and i'm ready to increase the nicotine and decrease the number of draws (sometimes I find myself holding in the draws, or going on a binge until the wick dries out resulting in a harsh taste). for me, the VG solutions produce plenty of moist vapor, but are somehow less satisfying overall, but maybe I just need to up the nicotine mg/ml even higher with VG...

questions: the research being done for safety reasons should also produce information that will help juice producers satisfy consumers. I think it would be useful to know how the amount of vapor perceived by the user depends on something in addition to the volume of the solution vaporized, like the number of molecules per volume of solution, or how light, heat, and air interact with vapors having various ratios of PG to VG. knowing the nicotine mass transfer rate from the vapor to human tissue for different ratios of PG, VG, and Nicotine would also be helpful in accurately guessing how to adjust the recipes for solutions. and then there is the flavor, how is it affected by PG versus VG...

Happy Vaping

To the many of you who offered their bodies to science, I'm probably going to start development real soon. Phase one is going to be searching for the perfect "puff". So I will be experimenting with non-active formulations soon. Once I find a few "windows" to play in I will make these availible (for free of course) to the general community. Stay tuned.

Andrew,

First off welcome to ECF and the vaping community.

I have a challenge for you:
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a liquid that actually tastes like a real menthol. Im sure that you would be flooded with interest and very likely interested buyers / guinea pigs if you could accomplish that.

And btw you have another volunteer for testing if needed or wanted. Actually two more.

Cheers,
VMS
