Hi,

So many years ago I tried ecig, I think it was back in 2008-2009, it been so long I can't remember. What I do remember was I loved the concept, but I remember what a pita it was for maintenance (leaking), and just never felt like I got a great hit. I tried it off and on for a few months and gave it up.

Fast forward I tried one of my friends a while back at a party I think it is what is called a mod, it looks like a box, pretty big, and can change voltage I think. So I am here to try to figure out which one is the best since I really know nothing. I think that might be what I need to try.

There are at least 3 vape shops by me, but I don't know how good their prices are and how well informed they are, so before I go in want to make sure I know my stuff.

Technology has improved a hundred fold since the days of a cigalike. ;)

Doing your research and learning vaping terminology and vape slang will help you make an educated purchase. There are several classes of vape gear to choose from.

Most newcomers do best with a MTL (mouth-to-lung) non-subohm tank and a variable wattage regulated (electronic chip) mod. Finding a juice flavor that you like will be as important as the gear you choose. Batteries will be the most important choice you will make.

Brick & mortar shops will always be more expensive than purchasing online, however there is something to be said for seeing/holding a future purchase. If they are a good vape shop, they will be knowledgeable and helpful to you if you come across any problems; sadly some shops are only interested in making the sale and may not be that knowledgeable or helpful. Therefore, its a great idea to have some knowledge yourself before you visit a shop.

Good luck on your journey!

Hi, and welcome to ECF! Vaping has come a long way since I first encountered one. The array of choices can seem dizzying. There is some great gear out there, and it's good you are doing your homework first.

Mainly, you'll have to decide if you are more interested in MTL vaping (less vapor, more nicotine in eliquid, sometimes smaller setups, although you can put a MTL vape on a high powered setup and just enjoy great battery life. Or, you can be using a Direct Lung setup which produces a lot more vapor per puff and people typically have lower nicotine level juices and inhale directly in to the lungs . Some folks kind of enjoy a middle ground.

If you are serious about making vaping work for you this time and you're unsure what type of vaper you'll be I might suggest a sub0hm setup (and it doesn't have to be a kit, it can be a mod and a tank, some kits are great, others not so much) and get a sub0hm type tank or and a MTL tank, or a tank like the Crown Uwell (original) which offers a lot of variety of coils including a higher resistance MTL coil of 1.2 I think it is. The Crown is really setup as a sub0hm tank as far as airflow and driptip but it's probably adjustable enough to help you figure out what type of vaper you'd like to become. It's not a leaker of a tank, and there are lots of users that swear by this tank for flavor and coil longevity. A good MTL tank that's inexpensive but will definitely give you the "feel" of a MTL would be the Nautilus 2.

It's possible your vape shops many not carry one or more of those tanks, so you may be better off with online, although it might be worth a wander in to some of them, to actually get to hold the vape and get a sense of what some of your options are. The array of box mods can be pretty dizzying. I can tell you mod makers I like and consider reliable but keep in mind everyone's different. But for mods, I would recommend Teslacigs (it's a British company I think) they offer some good, varied, but reliable choices and I love their power board, it's very efficient with battery life and offers decent TC for not being a DNA mod (this stuff is all stuff you may get to later, but it can be good to know about, etc). I'm a fan of the Smoant Charon mod and would recommend it to almost anyone. Vapresso does "pretty" well and some of their mods are visually very appealing but the construction is also decent. I also have and like the Eleaf invoke mod, mainly for size, weight and design. It's very lightweight and portable and probably among the lightest and smallest of box mods, without sacrificing durability or design.
I'm also a fan of Innoken products (tanks and mods) as well.

Best of luck, sometimes finding a starting point can be tough. I would go into it the way you are, trying to find what works "for you." I'd also encourage you not to give up/be disappointed if you don't find the right setup for you going in. My first gear was not suitable to my vaping style (MTL) but I just took every piece of vaping equipment "not for me" and wound up giving it away, or selling it, and realizing that each step forward moved me to my "perfect vape." Even with the best prep in the world, it may take some time to land on that perfect setup, so don't give up and etc.

Yep it takes a while to find your sweet spot. I'd go in and handle as many setups as it takes to find one that feels 'natural' in your hand. Also figure out if you want a mod with an internal battery that's charged via USB - or an external battery mod (recharge individual batteries).

I started vaping 3 months ago with a pen type mtl setup - that was fantastic at getting me off cigarettes and into vaping. Battery life and tank size were small though and I soon upgraded to an external battery mod setup.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for responding, I kind of got sidetracked, was sick for a week, so in essence have not smoked cigarettes for 7 days so that is a great start!

But I know I am itching, so before I get back into cigs,

I am curious your guys thoughts about this kit I was am looking to try, this is sort of what I tried a while back and was impressed:

SMOK® Official Store: Shopping for All Best Vaping Kits, Mods, Atomizers, Coils, Accessories & more - Innovation keeps changing the vaping experience!

Price seems reasonable, is there anything I need to know before purchasing this? Maybe much better deals, or stay far away from this model?

well I guess not allowed to post links, but I was looking to get the Alien kit for $99, which is a Alien 220 Mod, TFV8 baby tank,

Not sure what else I might need to buy.

Hopefully this will help... this is my suggestion with a link:

Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Tank | Vape Tanks

    With either this mod:

Smoant Charon 218W TC Box Mod | Dual 18650 Platform

    Or this one:

Geek Vape Aegis 100W TC Starter Kit | Includes Shield Sub-Ohm Tank

If the .5ohm coil is too much for you in that uwell crown tank then you can purchase 1.2 ohm coils for it elsewhere.. but I would try the .5ohm first since you tried your buddies mod and liked it..

    You will need 18650 batteries:

    Sony VTC5A 30A-35A 2500mAh Flat Top 18650 Battery - Genuine - Wholesale Discount
(Which is a good all around battery)

    And a charger:
    XTAR VC4 Battery Charger

I can't recommend a Smok product due to quality control issues they have and $99 is too high a price.
    + 1 on this. :thumb:

Ok this gives me a great starting point, prices look good and will check out local shop now just to see what they have in comparison to this and if they have nothing like it will order online

    Thanks!

As a beside, if you end up going with the Geekvape Aegis then you will likely prefer this battery

    Samsung 30T 21700 3000mAh 35A Battery

It's more expensive but has a longer run time etc than the 18650's do..

That said, always get batteries from a reputable battery wholesaler and not just a vape shop.. that way you know what your getting.

Welcome to the forum! I'm pretty new myself, so not very knowledgeable but I'm happy to try and help! I went straight into a Smok Mag and I love it but I've recently ordered a squonk mod off the internet. Anyway, the Smok Mag comes with a sub-ohm coil pre installed in the tank, since if you get it you'll probably be buying the kit. It's a direct lung hit since its sub-ohm and I personally enjoyed going straight into that but it may not be for you.

So umm I want into my local vape shop and could not find recommendations here, stuff they had seem very overpriced and not sure I want to commit it to, but I did see they had something called juul, that I been hearing about. I asked him about it, and he said it is good for first time vapors who trying to cut cigs. At this point it been a week or so since I smoked and I knew I was going to hit cigs very soon if did not get something.

So I ended up getting the juul starter kit for $50, I am sure it overpriced, but I will say this from the few hours I have used it, it is definitely taking the cravings off for getting a cigarette, and is not as bad as I thought it was going to be compared to what I use to see in local gas stores, and delis.

I might stick with this for a while, and then maybe transition to this mod

Oh they have had quality control issues? This was online for $99. I have not checked the local shops yet until I have a better idea on what I want but something similar to the smok

    Any recommendations?
IF you like Smok, I would recommend the Smok Mag 225w with TFV12 Prince. I'm rather new to vaping, too. I started with N Ego Battery with a 1.6ml cartomizer. I graduated to an Innokin Coolfire IV TC-18650 which was decent. When I bought my Smok mag 225w I entered into a whole new world of vaping. I paid @ $50 for my setup which included the TFV12 PRINCE TANK. I would recommend shopping around for the best price for whatever you decide to purchase. I would recommend Eightvape.com for some really good prices.
