Thanks everyone for all the advice!

So- I can't remember what the two types of liquid are- i know VG- but what was the other? Anyway- they are interchangeable? As in, I could order a bottle of whatever flavor, and dilute it with VG without killing myself? I'm already familiar with the normal cake uses of glycerine, but the other I'm not familiar with- the cake stuff is VG right?

I've seen different averages for daily ml useage, but it would be safe to assume that a 30ml of 24mg would last at least for 2 weeks? I've tried to do the math, and assuming I smoked 2 packs a day of my current brand, and vaped 5 ml/day, I'd need to dilute down to 5.6 mg. I'm guessing that's a poor estimate, and it will probably be a higher mg with less ml. But either way, the 30 ml bottle would last about the same amount of time, which is what I am concerned with for the moment. I'm talking myself through this, so bear with me... If I diluted down to 5.6, then I'd end up with like 120 ml, approx. Or diluted down to 12, I'd end up with 60 ml- even at 5ml a day, that would be enough to last til the following paycheck. I'm trying to assume worst case senario here. If I need less ml, than great. But once I manage to get started vaping, I don't want to have to run out, or go back to analogs.

I totally see the benefit in stocking up, but my problem is that I really cant afford to buy analogs at the moment, let alone stock up. LOL. So it's going to be a slow building process here. Once I get a little $ savings, then I'll be able to stock up, but for now, trying to buy both analogs to hold me over til the PV gets here, plus start up costs.. well.. I'm sure you guys know how I feel with the economy right now.

I see a 901 kit at ruyan direct for 27.50- so I guess that's not a bad deal. Has 2 batteries in the kit, so that would cover my immediate needs.

So does this sound sufficient: 901 kit with 2 batteries, atomizer, charger, comes with 5 carts.
And I'm guessing I'll want to buy blanks, in addition to a liquid or a couple, to equal a minimum of 30ml.

Does that sound ok? That would put my total around 37 plus shipping. And once I dont have to buy mor cigs, then I'll have that extra 70 or so in a paycheck to buy extras.

I'd recommend you get an extra atomizer, as well - maybe even two, and perhaps a few more cartridges.

I've been vaping for about 34 weeks now, and I started with a 30 ml bottle of 'High' (18). I used about 1/3 of that bottle in the first week - then I ordered some other flavors, so it's harder for me to estimate the amount I use in a week - but I've still got some of my original bottle left. AND I was a heavy smoker - 2 to 3 packs a day.

When I first started, I went through about 3 cartridges within the first few days because the stuffing would come out and I couldn't get it back in! I've since bought a pair of 'needle nose' tweezers, and so I can re-stuff the cartridges.

You can get 901 atomizers from Rocky Mountain Vapor for $7 each - and they offer free shipping for purchases of $14 and up, which would be two atomizers. That's an even better price on atomizers than I've gotten from China, when I consider the shipping cost from there. And their 30 ml bottles of juice are $15.00.

I bought my 901C (white) starter kit at ecigarettesales.com for $39.95, free shipping.

By the way, I quickly found I like vaping better than smoking 'analogs' - the second week, I smoked 1 pack of cigarettes, compared to the 20-30 I smoked per week a month ago. I still smoke an analog once in a while - I carry them for emergencies - but I smoke less than a pack a week (including letting a work colleague bum a cigarette a few times a week). I didn't start vaping to quit smoking, but I can foresee a time I won't even bother to carry 'real' cigarettes

I could ramble on forever here about the Vapor King. So I am just going to direct you to their site. Also check out all the posts and threads on this forum about Vapor4Life.com and the the forum thread at vapor4life and do your own research regarding this marvelous PV (personal vaporizer). Since I purchased it last month, I have to say the Vapor King is awesome and you will love the ease of use. Its a two piece cartomizer concept. Their starter kit comes loaded with xtras and everything you need to start, even a 30ml bottle of juice. The batteries and cartomizers last a long time. one each lasts me all day, then I use the usb passthru when i get home, still using the same cartomizer. Ok,I'll stop cuz here I am starting to ramble. Whatever you decide on, good luck and welcome to the world of vaping. Your children will thank you and be most grateful you stopped using those nasty analogs. Worked for me. Analog free for 4 weeks. GOOD LUCK and happy vaping:thumbs:

The other is PG, Propylene Glycol. They're pretty much interchangeable in smoke juice. VG is vegetable gycerin and is cheap and widely available. I bought a 6-oz bottle at the supermarket for $3; that amounts to 177ml, which should last a long time.

VG makes more vapor and tastes sweeter than PG.

(this forum keeps logging me out when I take a long time to post, so I'm splitting my answers up)

Absolutely. You just need a small bottle to mix it in, maybe a small plastic squeeze vial you can take when you leave the house. Many juice suppliers include one of these with a bottle of juice.

Since you're a menthol smoker, I suggest that you buy a bottle of high nicotine, strongly-flavored menthol juice and then dilute it with VG. You can use an eyedropper to measure amounts by drops in order to control the proportions in the mix.

You can aim for a diluted strength of 18-24mg of nicotine per ml as a start, try that for awhile, then adjust it up or down on the next batch.

Here's a calculator for mixing thats pretty handy:
eJuice Recipe Calculator

Enter the numbers on the upper section then left-click to make the calculation.

You could get a DSE901 Starter Kit ($26.99) in Blue, Black, Silver, White, Pink, or Purple
Includes:
1 atomizer
2 automatic batteries
1 charger
5 pre-filled cartridges

add a 30ml bottle of e-juice of your choice ($9.00)
and shipping ($19.00)

For a total of $54.99

or a

Joye510 Starter Kit ($34.99) in Silver, Copper, Blue, Black, Pink or White
Includes:
2 atomizers
2 manual switch batteries
1 charger
5 pre-filled cartridges

add a 30ml bottle of e-juice of your choice ($9.00)
and shipping ($19.00)

For a total of $62.99

I just purchased the Copper 510 Kit from them and it arrived at my door in 8 days. Shipping on their site claims 7-10 days but I'm sure there are other factors involved.

They have good prices on other accessories too. You should check them out.

I was a one pack a day smoker and easily spent $70 every two weeks on analogs. In my book both of these kits are far cheaper than buying analogs by the pack and are much more enjoyable for me and my kids no longer complain about the terrible odor.

You can't go wrong with either of these models. Just my two cents.

Thanks everyone! I've ordered a 901 kit. I just got 2 10ml bottles for now, so in case I hated 1 flavor I might like the other. I went ahead and ordered now, so that by the time my kit arrives, the next paycheck will be here, so I will have funds for whatever other accessories I might need/want.

Does anyone have an opinion on who makes a good menthol liquid?

Boy, that's embarassing. Sorry for the cross posting going on there guys. I hadn't even looked at the main board- just at someone's suggestion on my post to try out a menthol liquid to make the conversion easier.

No problem at all. That menthol thread was long gone - pg6+ ... I just have it bookmarked because it's a common question.

see, there I go again, not noticing it was an old thread even. I'm gonna take a nap while the kids are sleeping, and maybe I'll have full brain function after.

Until then, I'll blame my brain function on the kids and cats who insisted I needed to be woken up at 2, 3, 4, and 5am this morning, to yell at one and send him back to bed for dumping all my shampoo/conditioner down the drain, and for the cats who woke me up with teeth and claws firmly attached to my leg.
