Thanks guys.

OK so I've just been into the vape shop to buy some juice, the guy said that with the .5 ohm head I'll need a very high VG juice or it'll just burn off too quick. I ended up buying a 50/50 20mg and a high vg 6mg juice (90+).

I put the 50/50 in and he said i'll need to run it below 9w for this juice, I've tried that and the experience is......meh. put it up to 15 and I can hear crackling a little bit but it seems much better. Is he talking rubbish? Am I potentially damaging the device running it at 15?

This all sounds strange to me. I've vaped both 80/20 and 50/50 in a subtank, no problems.
As for the the 9w.. ? .. forget that, 15w minimum for me with subtanks.

I smoked 15 roll ups, and quit using kit far less powerful than your choice. I think you'll do just fine. :)

Yes, sounds like a bit of rubbish. A higher VG juice usually has more difficulty wicking in a tank type atomizer, especially stock coils. 9 watts is also very low for a .5 ohm coil. Just a guess, but that probably would only be 2.5 volts to 3 volts.

And maybe I could try what you're using nowadays :) My needs are a 4.5ml tank mostly and inexpensive coils. GSAir?? Version M, S?

My device of choice these days is a Reo Mod. 6 ml squonking bottle on board. All the flavor and advantages of a dripper, but the convenience of a tank. Look into it. Great device.

Drip a couple of drops of e-liquid directly onto the coil and on the sides where the wicks protrude. That helps prime the wicks.

You could also replace the cotton in the burnt one with your own organic cotton. There a several youtube videos to demonstrate this.

With the higher ohm coil you might want to start on a lower wattage and work your way up.

Get the priming right and you can vape it almost immediately.

Leaving a cotton wool coil to soak it's way to 100% saturation doesn't always work. Actively dripping liquid directly onto the coil/wick "inside" the atomizer head is better and quicker.

I'd say you can do 4 or 5 big drops at least, maybe 2 or 3 on each of the 2 cotton end-holes as well. You can see the cotton soak up the liquid on the sides of the OCC. Keep going until it seems to have had enough.

Welcome crompers ! I see others here are wishing you luck, which is kind of them, but in my opinion luck has little to do with staying off the death stix... A fairly good recipe for staying away from smoking is to always have backups and extra mods available in case something breaks, gets stolen, etc.. so that you do not have to go without a vaping device being around and therefor do not get tempted to start puffing on the smokes. Also, if you do happen to smoke a death stick from time to time, then do not quit vaping just because you smoked a few stix... Just keep plugging along with the vaping even if you do happen to smoke and eventually the vape will make the death stix seem really nasty to you and you will be able to finally stop......... Also, experiment with your nic levels, juice flavors and the like in order to get things tweaked just for your satisfaction.. That particular subox kit that you got is a good one and about everything is adjustable and so through experimentation you will eventually find what suits you while operating it. I am going to get one of those nifty setups myself some day.

Rhubarb and custard? Interesting choice lol. You may get a bit of a funny taste at first as the cotton breaks in. Just remember to start low and work your way up on the wattage.

Never tried either custard or rhubarb......... But, I am slightly crazy and so I will try just about anything at least once :)

Cheers, sticking around 9-10w at the moment which seems to be fine in terms of vapor. Will keep at it and hopefully gets better.

Rhubarb and Custard is a kind of hard sweet we get in England, a childhood favourite so thought I'd give it a go!
