Hi -I'm a just-turned 57 year old female Aussie vaper - only been at it for a few weeks after reading about juul pods in Wired - got mine and haven't looked back.
I have a shoulder reconstruction next week and was told by my surgeon to stop smoking the week before (!) so thought I'd hit gold discovering the e cigs.
Thanks to lots of forums it seems the nicotine is bad for healing. Bu-buum.
So I've just gone coldish turkey with a pudding flavoured juice I bought from a vape shop on a trip to Melbourne last week - I only discovered it didn't have nicotine in it when I got home. I was pretty bummed, I didn't realise they were all nicotine free, so I shelved it, but now I need to be nicotine free I'm pretty happy, I refilled an empty juul pod so I've at least got this to maintain my 40 year habit.
Eeek that sounds bad.
Anyway - night one of no nicotine so let's see how it goes.... hope it's not a full moon too...

You know, the smoking "habit" is more than just a physical addiction to nicotine. There is also the mental "hand-to-mouth" behavior and the mental "need to inhale/exhale" behavior. So that's three distinct parts to the smoking habit.

So if you vape 0% nicotine while you are recouperating your surgery, you'll still be able to benefit from the hand-to-mouth and inhale/exhale behavioral parts.

Good luck with your surgery, and long term luck with stopping your smoking habit.

Hi welcome and it may go easier than you think, habit is a huge part of things. Hopefully your juice will start to taste AMAZING as you keep vaping and you get your tastebuds back.

Also if it's grim, you can look forward to perhaps not returning to smoking, but rich, nicotinzed juice and whatever.

Wishing you the best of luck.

I don't now about Juul. When I was forced into early 0mg waiting for diagnosis I found blowing out clouds helped a lot more than inhaling flavor. I suggest something that can produce more vapor if possible to deal with early 0mg quitting by vaping.

There is question on nicotine and bone healing. Studies against rely on overdosing animals. In studies with realistic dosing it results in harder bone repair. And in the only human study I could find that didn't only rely on smoking the Swedish snus users healed harder and faster than smokers or non-smokers.
But of course if you go against Dr's orders and something they do doesn't work you get the blame.

When my Neuro surgeon said no nicotine after cervical fusion I played along so if I did have a non-fusion he couldn't blame me.
Waiting for diagnosis of IBD I went along with it because I thought I had cancer since I'd been tested for IBD enough and told it was all in my head that that surely couldn't have been it, but it was.

Good luck.

thanks all - much appreciated!
ok so I just got a shipment of mango pods that arrived today (ordered before I found out about the no nicotine pre and post op rule - so I just had one puff - sweet mother of Mary it's SO GOOD.)
Anyhoo, back to the chocolate pudding nicotine-free juice for now, although I just discovered liquid nicotine in any form is illegal in Australia with a nearly $10,000 fine!
I am deciding whether to address the issue in the weekly newspaper column I am lucky to have - West Australia just this week passed laws to legalise e cigs and vaping - we are in the dark ages on the other side of the country but I also don't want to draw attention to it if it's only going to make it more difficult to order these - thoughts?

I'd be afraid if you have no anonymity in your column. Not only of making it difficult to order but those in power taking revenge.
I can't remember the details but I think it was a vocal vape advocate that had what seemed to be a vengeance raid/bust.
Like any advocates of illegal goods you either need to be squeaky clean or you need to be anonymous. Those in power don't like to be told no.
