Hi,

I am a smoker and I am looking at converting to an e-cig. I have read through everything that I can in the beginners forum, and have found most information I was looking for. (Thanks to all the contributors). I decided that I will probably purchase the ego as my first kit. The one thing I am not sure of is tank vs cartridge. I am sure that this must have been discussed a thousand times before, but I cannot seem to find anything in the newbies forums.

Any pointers or suggestions ?

Thanks

Hey there. I was in your position just a few weeks ago. Got my ego without anything else and tried out the tank system. I read of some problems with people not liking the size, leaks, etc. Gotta say, I like the tanks. I don't have leaks and with a needle tip dropper filling them is easy as pie.
Still, I wanted to try other options so I gave a Smok DCC a try and I love the amount of juice it holds although there doesn't seem to be much change in TH/vapor.
I will say the tank is a lot easier when changing out flavors.
All in all I didn't go wrong either way. Cartos are pretty cheap, order one along with your kit and give em both a try.

After trying various different clearos and cartomizers, I continue to return to the original tank & atomizer. The only thing that I do not like (that is standard on the ego-t) are the hard caps. Softer, easier to use caps are available 10 for a $1, and those solved my only complaint. Hopefully this is helpful!

I'm about a month out without analogs (and totally stoked about it!) and when I started I went a little crazy with my credit card- so I've had the opportunity to sample a lot of devices, from Kr808s to ProVari+tank, to a Reo bottom feeder.

I realize mine may not be the most popular opinion, but I actually prefer cartridges (in my case, an Ego-C) to a cartomizer or tank+cartomizer. Yes, they can be messy to fill if you're careless, but the same is true for tanks really. I've never had leak issues with either. As for swapping them out, it's good to have a few extra cones on hand to make it super simple. An Ego-C cartridge holds about 3/4ml, and 3 get me through a full day.

I prefer cartridges because I think the taste is 'cleaner'. I absolutely can't stand the taste of a new carto, or one that is just about done. Cartridges make it very easy to see exactly how much fluid is remaining, as it makes direct contact with the atomizer. That said, with a tank, you'll probably just top off before the liquid gets below the feed hole.

Cartidges also seem to work better for me with some of the thicker e-juices that kinda clog up cartomizers. Widening a cartomizer hole and/or punching additional holes may help overcome this though.

Neither work well with my favorite morning vape, Boba's Bounty, which is pure VG I believe.

Also, I've found that unlike smoking, I like to vape multiple flavors throughout the day, otherwise my taste buds get a little cranky- or just shut down altogether :) I also like to switch up my liquid rotation each morning- if I were using 5ml or 6ml tanks, I'd have quite a few laying around. 1ml (eh, 3/4ml I guess) is perfect- by the time I'm done with it, I'm ready to move on to another liquid.

Just my two cents :)

The ego is a good solid reliable battery, with a 510 connector. As such you can try attys, boge cartos, CE2s, mega-attys, T-tanks, C-tanks, 306 attys, visions......etc. Finding what tastes good to you, and vapes well for you is the trick in finding your sweet spot. With what you have already read it's a lead pipe cinch you can't find 3 vapers that totally agree on the best setup..:) Try one or two of each, (as the attys and cartos are consumables) to keep the cost down, and see what you like best.

p.s. Welcome to ECF !!!

Thanks for the responses. I have actually changed my direction slightly, I am going to try a kgo. Most of this is based on not know what I want and having to start somewhere :)

Instead of trying to find the perfect setup, I looked at my practical and social needs. Most of those revolved around a long and busy workday with no time to mess around with things. I need a full day vape that will deliver a moderate to heavy hit.

I will post a real opinion when I have some experience to try and help others that might be in my position.

Cheers
A.

I am still using one of my ego's "the other one broke" kinda my fault lol. But after alot of experimenting with different things I like the carto tanks, like the smoktek DCT, I have a 3ml tank i use on the ego it will last me all day. I also have a 3.7v box mod and the Bolt tube mod, I use the bigger tank 5ml on the Bolt.
It pretty much comes down to what works for you and what will keep you off the analogs.
keep on vaping :)

There are a bazillion different ways to use those little eGo type batteries, and the nice part is that you are free to try them all. Be sure to grab a box of cartos to use besides those T or C tank atties. Get a couple fo regular atties and drip tips, and have a little fun with your vaping. They are all good ... just different.
The way I look at vaping is that if I wasn't having fun doing it, I'd probably end up smoking again.

4 days away from it being a year since my last cigarette and counting.
