Hi - what dose nicotine

Hi all,

I have decided to try vaping in order to give up smoking cigarettes and am currently waiting for all of my stuff to arrive. I live in Australia and have had to buy the nicotine from the USA. I got 50mg/ml nicotine and am wondering how much I am supposed to put into the juice etc. as I dont want to overdose on the stuff. Currently I smoke 25-30 low tar cigarettes.

I smoked a pack a day of 'lights' and started out with 24mg liquid. So you will need to get some pure vg/pg and dilute it down.

When you start there is no easy answer for this. There seems to be a pretty broad range regarding how much nicotine people absorb from vaping so every individual has to sort this out for themself. For two people who have the same smoking profile, one person might get bowled over by 24 mg while the next person can find even 24 mg just isn't enough.

Ok, so what do you do? Try to find a place selling small sample sizes - like 5 ml bottles - and pick up one of each in 12 mg, 18 mg & 24 mg nic levels. If you do this none of it will go to waste. If you find 12 mg isn't enough you will just vape through it really fast. If 24 mg feels like too much nic you can just mix it with the 12 mg to cut the nic level down.

It's also a good idea to get at least one of those each in high or 100 PG and one in high or 100 VG, both to figure out your likes and dislikes there and to have something to change to in the rare case that you have adverse or allergic reaction to PG or VG. It's rare, but I found out right away I was allergic to PG liquids and at least I had a 100 VG liquid right there to try.

Rick provided you with a very informative response. From personal experience, I went through 8 packs of bugler in two weeks. Simple math will bring you to....


30(papers per back) x 8 pouches = 240
240 / 14 = 17.1 cigarettes on average

The estimation is a bit murky, as some days I'd smoke more than others and vice versa. I considered myself a "heavy" smoker due to the nature of tobacco quality and lack of a filter. I made the mistake of overestimating my nicotine intake, tolerance and required level so I ordered 24mg. It made me dizzy initially and just did not sit well with my body. I went with 18mg and everything is gravy! I would suggest to any smoker nearing the PAD mark, or who has an actual dependency and doesn't smoke socially, to try 18mg and 24mg. You may notice you NEED a bit less than you believe.

At the moment I am smoking Horizon Purple. The problem is that in Australia we have plain labelled cigarettes now and they have taken the content off the sides of the pack. I was smoking Holiday Purple up until about 2 months ago when they jumped $5 per pack overnight. They were 2 mg. So I changed to Horizon Purple thinking that they were the same as the lady in the shop told me they were but I have just found out that they are 12 mg so not happy about that, I should have been smoking Horizon yellow. It is very confusing over here as all packets look the same.

We cant buy the nicotine fluid over here I have had to order it from the USA. It is illegal to buy it here but I can import 3 months supply. I ordered a 250 ml bottle of 50mg/ml as that is what I was told to get by an e-cig vendor. I just want to know the ratio as I also suffer panic attacks and dont want to feel dizzy or anything like that. this is a huge step for me I have been smoking for 38 years.

What are the symptoms of allergy to PG?

I would try and "cut" it down to around 16-18mg/ml. This means (for you with 50mg) something around 33%.

Guessing you would still puff 25-30 times a day, you don't want to halve it to 25mg.....(at a guess).... too strong.

What nicotine rating were/are your cigarettes? You could even consider 25% (12.5mg/ml)

Welcome and cograts!!! I was going to say, get the spreadsheet!!! I use it a ton. I forget who authored it but he needs some credit! Also, i started with 24mg after being a heavy reds smoker and i had to cut down to 18 immediately.

Went down to 12 after a month and i am now at 6.

Oh, doing it that way is easier. (i.m.o.)

Just add 4.5ml of nic base. That'll give you 14.5ml of liquid at about 16-18mg/ml.

(That's off the top of my head, so somebody might say that's wrong...it'll be close enough though)
