Well, I didn't realize there was such a huge community of PV users out there at least up till a week ago. I'm new to the vaping scene as I had tried everything to give up smoking but never the e-cig route as all I ever saw was pushy people at the mall.

That changed 2 weeks ago, had a customer using one he smoked like I did, a pack and a half to 2 packs of 100's a day and he told me his worked, it was a V4L so I decided what the heck I've already spent 2000 in the past year and a half to quit why not. So last week I got mine in and after I charged the batteries and tried it I haven't touched an analog :D this is something that I can see myself continually doing even if I drop to 0 nic e-juices I actually am enjoying vaping more than I ever did smoking!

So I'm also a pretty big techie and I like trying new ideas out. I've been researching like a freak for the past week since I took my first vapor hit and now plan on trying out more flavors and more PV's as I read more and more I'm noticing that beyond different flavorings the devices them selves impact the experience.

I've been reading up a lot on the 510 models and the eGo model which is enticing because I was a chain smoker and I've seemed to carry that over a bit to vaping. Has anyone here used both a V4L or comparable with the battery type and a 510 or eGo model? I'm wondering from a personal experience if there's big difference?

Or is anyone a raving fan of another model that I should try out? I'm new to this and open to any suggestions as I play around and find out which ones I'll like for which applications. I.E. the V4L model is perfect for while I'm at work currently but the eGo may be a bit too big.

Thanks in advance! :D

It really depends on what you're priorities are, do you want one that looks like a cig? If not definitely go a mod. Then there's the voltage, you can get 3.7v, 5v regulated, 6v or even 7.4v or you can get something like the Buzz with an adjustable voltage control. Do you like dripping, if so you may want to consider a feeder mod like the Juicebox, Riva or Journeyman. So many choices ;)

I know there's a ton more choices than I had ever imagined! I haven't seen a 7.4v one yet but I was looking at a 6.0v one but it's only for pre-order from Great Lakes Vapor, it's huge so it just wouldn't be one I took to work or anything I'd just use it at home but is something I'm looking at.

Still not positive on anything that would be a mod though, wouldn't that require more maintenance, which I'm not opposed to I'm just not sure if something were to come loose for example that I'd know where to get the stuff to fix it yet.

I can even see myself eventually tinkering and making some of my own stuff as I'm pretty good in that scene I just dunno what could potentially harm me yet lol.

I'm off analogs for nearly 15 months, Skuggi. I'm an electrician and techie by nature. So we have some common ground here.

Before you buy a 6 volt mod, I would suggest you spend a lot less money than that and get yourself a pasthru that does 5 volts (accomplished via the PC's USB or better yet a stand alone 110V to USB adapter) Most of these PTs are cheaply made and won't last but a month or so but they can be had for less than $20. In fact, if you're techie enough, you can easily build one. There is a plethora of stuff in the modder's sub-forum toward that end.

Some folks find that they just don't like high voltage devices. It would be a shame to see you buy an expensive mod that you wouldn't use. The PT would help you decide if you liked the higher voltages. And it would serve a double purpose as a device you could use when you're tethered to the work desk or in front of the TV sans the bother of batteries.

If you go the eGo route, (which I would suggest) get a low resistance (LR) atomizer with the kit. The LR simulates vaping at high voltage also for a whole lot less money than buying the HV mod.

Good luck.

Thanks Richie, hey I have the USB Passthrough from V4L but it doesn't give me any specs on the voltage and I can't tell by weight if there is a battery in the casing. Do you know of anyway to trigger the air sensors on these so I can get out my DMM and see what it's putting out?

Cool. You just saved money. LOL

If there is no inline battery box, chances are that it's straight 5 volts from the USB to the atty. I haven't had a non-manual device in a long time but I remember that if you blow into the LED end of an auto device it will trigger the air switch inside the battery and you could then measure the voltage with your DMM (atty off, obviously). I'm not sure if that would hold true with PT, though I bet it would.

In another post you mention a car trip coming up. Check this out, Skuggi...

Cigarette lighter to USB power adapter 5V/2000mAh

Look Mom! No batteries needed while driving. =) You could power up your PT and vape away or plug in your eGo fast charger USB connection and never miss a beat.

If you're itching to break out your MM, check out this sub-forum:

There's enough stuff in there to keep you busy for awhile. :)

Oh, and I am a raving fan of the GGT, GGTS and the Silver Bullet PV's, and juice from tastyvapor.com (specifically, TV Butter Rum and Atomic Cinnacide).

hehe, I've been down there the past half hour gaining some ideas :) my hardest problem is figuring out which batteries match up to which atomizers and carts etc. Also blowing into the LED does work for my batteries but this PT is well built and no air gaps and I'm now debating if i want to risk trying to rip this apart and test it.

[...] my hardest problem is figuring out which batteries match up to which atomizers and carts etc.[...]

That's the beauty of a big-battery mod: The batts used are generally "stock button-top" protected rechargeable Li-Ion batteries, and connect to whatever you want to strap on them. Atomizer adapters from/to just about whatever you want are available all over the place. If you're building your own, just use the connector that fits your favorite atomizer when you build it.

[...]Sorry Quasi, couldn't help myself

Haha, don't apologize, keep 'em coming! :D

LOL Don't do that. =)

You could make a testing jig which is what we use to test voltage under load. In essence, this is an *extension cord* between the battery connection and the atty connection with two pieces of wire with the insulation skinned back slightly for the MM probes. Madvapes (and lots of other vendors) sell battery connectors and one atomizer would need to be sacrificed for the sake of science. =)
