Is there a way to always Hide or Show certain subforums somewhere, other than clicking the collapse arrow? That doesnt persist through browser session for me and there are way to many subforums for me to care about.

No there is not, but if you log in and check the remember me box it is a persistent setting. I just checked and it works for me on Fx and Chrome, both when dismissing ECF by closing the tab or by logging out. If you are clearing your cookies after each session it may be the reason you are having this issue.
