I have bought, and built, a wide variety of Genesis-style atomizers--mostly from Youde. Kraken clones from fasttech. I was baptized in The Church of the Almighty Gennies with Rssts that I bought here in the states. Gennies are frustrating as all getout, but are awesome once you get them stewing.

Each gennie type needs its own type of setup.

ALL gennies and the vape delivered from your gennie, benefit from good wick and coil technique. This does NOT vary from atty-to-atty.

So I have played with all of these gennies. Set them up, trying to nail down the best 'recipe' for each type of device. Reading, and researching, perusing high-end vendors. Never really intending to actually purchase any high-end merchandise for myself.

I went on MM Vapors. Looking @ the Dids. See, Aga Hydras have been my very favorite atty thus far. I see that MM is selling the Did for half off. So I buy two, with a few extra bits.

My new Greek Original Dids arrived in, like THREE days, EVEN tho the Buckeye State is in the midst of 'the polar swirl' or whatever

They. Are. Beautiful!!!!

The machining on these things is SO NICE!!

Two things that I have learned thus far:

1)Practice on LOTS and LOTS of clones. You will get crabby, maybe cry, maybe throw that Aga T2 at the wall (c'mon, i kno you really thunk it).

2) Learn--and i mean really LEARN-- how to convert $ to € ;)

I bought a Poldiac Aname V2 18650. To vape my new Dids on. I can't vape these beauties on clones. I just can't....

Gotta love them gennies. And don't listen to the angry mob running around, telling everyone to stuff cotton in their gennies. Infidels, I say!
Hmm... aaalmost tempted to pick up a DID while they're on sale. Think I'll save up for another Kraken, tho.

Google can convert currency for you. Just google like: 50 eur to usd

Google, and downloading Iphone apps is fantastic. I have a 'vapor' app on my phone and an electrical engineering app as well. I cant wait till Iphone comes out with a phone that you can jack in multimeter leads. I only use ss mesh in gennies. Discovering the joys and benefits of cotton balls in little bully rdas. Believe it-or-not, I am finding that taking little rda drippers /c cotton is much more convenient for my commute.

I have not built my Dids yet. I must prepare, by participating in The Seven Sacraments. I might even fast for three days :D

I'm still on clones because I'm a broke college student so I just settle for amazing builds instead. For my newest one I bored out the insulation in the RSST wick hole and threw a fat bon 60 grit AO wick(white porous ceramic) in there and wrapped it with 4 wraps of braided 28 gauge. Its around .487 ohms if I remember correctly. Its a smoooth vape with the large air hole I have drilled out. The flavor is top notch and I just wrapped it today. It's crazy to think it is going to get even better. This thing is a thirsty cloud monster to be sure, I vaped about 2.5ml in an hour using this thing. I just wish I had another cheap genesis so I can try a build with a smaller air hole.

I have AO in everything now. AO in my Russian w/ hemp feeds, AO dragon in my dripper, AO in my genesis. Only thing that isn't AO is my other dripper which is 24 Ga with ceramic fiber. I like mesh/wire rope but this ceramic has the flavor edge. I'm done with anything silica or cotton, but I use degummed hemp fiber sometimes.

I agree not to listen to all the people saying use cotton. Seems like the easy way out to me. If I didn't want to use ss mesh or rope I wouldn't have any gennies. A well set up genisis atomizer with #500 mesh beats about anything. I feel like if all of the people who are promoting cotton in genisis atomizers could just try a really well set up one with mesh or rope they would get it

Thats funny, everyone i know who use cotton are very skilled with mesh as well. I have used rolled mesh (which i assume is what you meant), hybrid mesh with silica, steel cable, and even made mesh rope to use as wicks. Just didnt cut it. Metal wicks waste heat.

So yeah, actually, we use cotton because we DID get it with mesh, and thought it was time to move on.

Oh, shameless plug, if you still want to stay with mesh (i dont know why you would, but hey) i got a tutorial for making mesh rope wicks on youtube.

@ Metamorpheus--i was a student, living on a shoestring, for about 12 years. College turned me into a well-educated scientist. And a chain-smoker. A really bad marriage resulted in spending my third decade on this flying mudball broke.

As a much wiser (HA!) girl in her mid-forties now, i feel a little weird spending a big chunk of change on what amounts to be a high-end electric cigarette.

I love vaping, and hardware. I quit smoking six years ago, when I got divorced. I really wish that vaping was around like it is now, back then. I actually chewed black peppercorns, to stave off cravings, since I was a Marlboro smoker ( i also used to walk to school three miles, in the snow , up steep hillsides, both ways :p).

I have never been one to like to brag or be show-off-ey. I will post pix of my Did builds, when i get them done. Not for the purpose of brag, or show-off. I only want to test these things. And get my hands all tacky with e liquid. And post a 'recipe', that gives a great vape from these LOVELY devices. Peace, Stay Warm!!

science ... I'm a third year biochem student at the uni. So far it has made me more of a mad scientist. I've only been vaping since July and within the first month I was mixing my own juice and the second month I was rebuilding. If I had the means I would be buying high end stuff too like the flash-e, the kraken..etc. I'm going to be starting a juice line soon in AZ so if that takes off maybe I will have the means. Out here in AZ we stay pretty warm year round, my uncle moved here from Ohio and you would be hard pressed to get him to move away again.

With the ceramic wicks it depends on how large you make it, skinny wicks smaller than an 1/8" have more tendency to snap. I snapped my second wick I made trying to get 24 Ga tight against it. Braided 28 Ga provided my desired resistance and is more like flat wire without being as stiff as 24. You basically just torch the wire every wrap and give it tension until it hugs the wick. For the build on the DID try wire rope with a thin mesh topper and 24-26 Ga if you want a best. That thick wire makes fireworks on mesh...or any other wick basically.

Ahhhh, A girl after my own heart lol

taste is subjective, if people like cotton I say have at it, but somewhere the "genesis style" meant a certain system, but all too often people refer to them as the type of tank now. Personally I cannot find anything that compares to mesh in a well made Geni.

Things like SS cable, ceramic and other off the wall wicking methods - like everything else- Come, make a splash, proclaim to be the next big thing, find a few converts, and float off into the sunset.

I know several people now that when the kayfuns made a scene they swore the geni with mesh was dead for them, fast forward and they have went back, same with the cotton and auto dripping and all that in a geni, people swore it was all that and more. several of them are slowly coming back around to mesh after proclaiming "mesh was dead".

As the kayfun type tanks made a scene and became a hit, many people declared the age of genesis was over and had run it's course. and it seemed like that may have been the case.
as time went by the novelty is wearing thin, and the latest wave of geni's like the Pulse, the Kraken and several others from top tier companies are coming back and showing everyone not only are they not dead, but they are even better then the last generation and deserve their position as one of the best devices you can use.

So yeah, actually, we use cotton because we DID get it with mesh, and thought it was time to move on.
I see people going back to mesh in the geni's
I see people going back to silica in drippers.
cotton works well but like with everything, its not for everyone. (i cant stand it)
you should never proclaim what you prefer to be the end all for everyone. vaping and taste is too diversified to be able to do that.

People say there is always room for improvements, and mesh cant last forever, sometimes a type of design comes along that just cant be made too much better, the household speaker has been the same for 100 years and no matter how they try they just cant come up with a better design. so instead they spend the time to refine the system that has already proven to work.

I am still trying to perfect the top tank bottom coil atty, but would love to try a genesis atty. A friend of mine at work has watched me start from Blu ejunks to my current Nemesis/Aqua (still trying to get the Aqua to taste as good as my Russian) set up with many variants in between. He has decided to make the jump to vaping by skipping everything and going mech and a genesis style atty. He actually bought my VV eGo and all associated gear to get his wife to stop the stinkys. I have tried to get him to attempt to progress a bit more slowly, and if he insists on jumping headlong into RBAs that he should consider a device I am familiar with so I can help him. He is rather impatient, and I worry he will be back on the stinkys pretty quick if he is not immediately successful.

So I may be learning a bit more quickly than I really have planned on Gennys. I was really hoping to gain more knowledge on, what appears to me to be a more forgiving design, on wicking, wick placement, coil design, coil placement, etc. I have a guy who owns a local B&M that has a Kraken for sale. He bought it and got frustrated with it, and he offered it to me dirt cheap ($75), but I am still leery about stepping into a different style atty without perfecting my current choice, even though I have read a ton about how a genesis atty, once perfected, outdoes a Kayfun design.

PS, I love cotton wicks ;)

I'd jump on a $75 genuine Kraken in a heartbeat. Much easier to set up (imho) than the Aga T2 which most people seem to start (and a lot end) their gennie career with. I think it gives a much better vape as well. Not saying the Aga gives a bad vape. Smaller chamber and adjustable air flow.

I'm confident you could sell it without a loss if it's not to your liking. Heck, if I was in the US, I'd make you a promise to take it off your hands for $76 ;)

I have never had a bottom-coil rba, unless you count Protanks that I recoiled. My advice on gennies--buy lots of mesh and kanthal wire. I found that if I screwed up on a mesh, I usually burned a hole in it as well. Hot Leg City later on!!

I just watched an hour long pBusardo video on the Did. I learned something new today. When he attaches the top leg to the positive pin, he finishes off on the outside of the wick. So you wind counterclockwise on the wick, starting from the bottom. When finishing off, you wrap counter and that top wrap is on the outside, instead of crossing and winding clockwise around the pos pin. I was winding all my coils clockwise, crossing in front of the wick, and then winding counter. I
know, this is confusing as hell. Watch his video!! I tried this winding on a couple of Chids. Barely a hot leg to brush out this time around.

Buy several cheap clones. Build and practice. With every build you
learn something new.

(i still use zero nic Blu Pina Colada cartos on egos as back-ups)

I wish it were brushed to match my Nemesis (the same guy got me the Nemesis). I admit I do like it's physical appearance, although I care more about form rather than function. The deck looks easy to work on, but the wick setup is a bit intimidating to me at this point. I have only been building for about a month now. Even so, I do know I could sell it for a profit, but I am not a huge fan of selling online, and generally leery of buying from individuals online.

I asked him to give me the weekend to consider it, and he said he would, so I have time to consider buying it.

I love the Kayfun design. I started with a Russian, and it was fairly easy to "master" for me. I have a Kayfun Lite Plus on order, but I really wanted more of that design. I bought a Tobecco clone and it is pretty decent. But it has an annoying whistle that I will have to figure out, and it doesn't like to sit flat on my Nemesis or my eVic, it sits at a slight angle, like the 510 threads are cut just a hair off. Another thing I noticed is that I don't get the same airflow at all, even with the adjustment screw removed it seems tight. But overall it seems pretty well built. I set up a coil exactly how I like my Russian, and it hits quite close, but not exactly like the real Russian. I think the lack of airflow and what appears to be a slightly larger chamber make the flavor a little less bold.

So anyways, on that note I am leery of trying a clone to see if I really want to buy the real deal. So it makes sense to snag the Kraken at such a great price, but while I have saved ~$600 in stinkys since quitting 2 months ago I have spend a couple grand on vaping... This stuff is getting expensive :)

I will watch his video, and anything else you might suggest to make my purchase a little easier. Thanks!

Funny, about the Kraken. I thought that i would really like it. How the tank piece slides off for easy cleaning. I never had a real one. $12 from Fasttech. I have three, gave one away to my friend's son. It is really hard to take off the top. And really hard to remove the metal sleeve, without the tank coming off with it. The fasteners @ the pos pin are probably way better on the genuine Kraken. The clone has really flimsy fasteners. If you bump it at all, your build is screwed. Aga Hydras are great quality attys for those that like that gennie style. The fasteners @ the top pin are really nice. Youde Agas are priced really nice, too. I have made SO many mistakes, with gennies. I am sure that i will make more. They are fun, if you like to work with your hands. I come from a long line of steel workers and welders. Tinker-er-ing is in my blood, i guess :D

I'm a mechanic so I dig tinkering.

I figured the top and bottom held together with the post held the tank in place, similar to the protanks. I never took his Kraken apart though... I'll have to get a good look at it, apparently. I am not sure I want a device held together with o-rings, except for maybe a dripper.

Well, perhaps the Kraken is struck from my list.

Doesn't sound like the genuine Kraken at all. Easy to get top cap off and on. Tank never came off on mine unless I wanted it to. And never had any issues with the center pin screw. I actually ordered a FT clone just to see how it compares. Will be interesting to see for myself :)

Only two things keep me from ordering another genuine Kraken. Price, and that I find it a bit boring to have duplicates. I have been hovering over the add-to-cart button a few times, tho :)

I have a couple clones of the kraken, never had the tank pop off on any of them.but that could be fixed by tighter orings or the dental floss trick on the old ones. and the top cap is a little snug, removing one of the orings took care of that though.

the kraken rocks, never tried a pulse, love my gemini and megatron though that little bitty top cap on the gemini is super tasty.
