Why does the government and insurance companies not realize that e-cigs will lower national medical bills and extend our lives there fore allowing us to pay more months of insurance premiums due to extended lives?

Has anyone looked into the insurance companies lobbying for e-cigs?
I dont think the insurance companies really care. Smokers pay higher rates and studies have shown that if you live longer your health costs are actually higher than if you die from smoking related illness such as lung cancer. And, some of the big insurance companies own stock in big tobacco.

1) Insurance companies want people to keep smoking because it gives them a justification for increasing premiums on everyone.

2) The government is tied up with tobacco makers. They don't want to eliminate smoking because they get big contributions from the tobacco companies and big taxes off the product.

3) The anti-smoking lobby doesn't want people to switch to ANY smoking alternative because they're engaged in an irrational culture war. Any appearance of compromise (allowing something called "cigarette") would undermine their ideological position.

Funny that I ran across this...I was just outside discussing this and there are insurance companies that actually test for nicotine before they will insure you. They will deny you coverage if you test positive. One guy said that he knew someone that had to stop chewing nicorette in order to even have a chance.

It's pretty amazing that even insurance companies can't separate the dangers associated with cigarettes from the nicotine itself.
