Hollywood Butts Out: How Johnny Depp, Drew Barrymore, Brad Pitt & More Are Breaking the Habit - MSN Movies News

This article talks about Katherine Heigel, too, but I found it because I was looking to see how Kris Jenner (the Kardashians' mom) quit smoking. I had on E! while working and an episode came on where the girls were trying to get Kris to quit. Here was where the ignorance about the dangers of cigarettes showed painfully. In an attempt to shame mom, Kim thought it'd be a good idea to pretend that her 14 year old sister was trying smoking because her mom smokes. So, she bought Honeyrose Herbal cigarettes, rationalizing to dad Bruce Jenner that they "don't contain nicotine" so they are safe. Too bad Kim and Bruce have been so brainwashed by the anti-nicotine rhetoric that they exposed the 14 year old to the 5mg of tar and whatever else was in the herbal cigarettes, thinking that "nicotine-free" means less dangerous.

The public still is painfully unaware that the danger is from everything ELSE in ALL cigarettes, NOT the nicotine!!

Turns out Kris is using Nicorette. Maybe she needs to know about e-cigarettes, but Bruce and Kim need to know that they didn't reduce the sister's exposure to toxins by getting "nicotine-free" cigarettes. Thankfully, the sister only took a couple of puffs - not enough to hurt anyone - but who knows if she won't try them later, thinking that they are "safe?"

I had a friend who was talking about how the nicotine from her hubby's cigarettes stained the walls of their apartment. I had to set her straight right quick. It seems that everything 'bad' in cigarettes is attributed to the nic - not the tars, the CO2 particulates, the combustion process.

The anti's have been thorough in their brainwashing - nicotine is the bad guy, has ALWAYS been the bad guy, simply because of a dirty delivery device.

Who on earth could be that painfully ignorant? All you need to know, to figure out that the combustion process all by itself is where at least half the harm takes place, is to have a decent working knowledge of very basic chemistry. We're talking a 10th grade high school student's knowledge of chemistry.

And who knows what's in herbal cigs, chemical-wise? Part of the reason I smoked rollies was because I knew they weren't laced with all the "extras" in tailor-made cigs. That doesn't make them "safe" by any means. There's still combustion and all the harmful chemicals that releases. They're still full of tar. They'll still kill you eventually. But at least there's no FSC, and all the other crap in tailor-mades.

So who knows what they're lacing those herbal cigs with? The ignorance is astounding.

That sort of thing thoroughly annoys me.

It's like a when Steve Buyer (US Congressman) made his famous "smoking lettuce" comment (YouTube - Rep. Steve Buyer on Smoking Lettuce for those who don't know what I'm talking about).

When that clip started making the rounds on the late shows, I was thinking, "Great! Finally somebody points out that tobacco might not be the devil weed people think it is and that it's HOW people use it that causes such damage."

Of course, the late shows universally used the clip to set up a lame joke about wanting some of whatever he'd been smoking.
