So, I was sitting in my morning class today, and I reached into my hoodie pocket to grab my Protege for a quick stealth vape. I grabbed it, and about a split second later, I realized that my hand was burning!

Not literally burning, but the Protege was was hotter than hell - the whole entire Protege. It was so painful to get the battery cap off so that I could remove the battery. I was able to get the cap off, but I now have two huge blisters on my fingers. The battery was red-hot.

Anyways, I'm not exactly sure what happened here. I do know that the battery was inserted correctly, being that the positive terminal went into the Protege first. There is a zero percent chance that the spring went into the battery because it was inserted correctly. The blue wrapping on the battery is in mint condition, so the battery wasn't grounding out. Also, there is no chance that the switch was being triggered, because it was only resting in my hoodie pocket. The switch was not being triggered because of any pressure against it, simply because there was none. Incidentally, the atomizer still works, and by all logic should be dead if the switch was on.

This is just another case in point that we all should be using PROTECTED batteries. The irony here is that I used one of the blue batteries that came with the kit today because I forgot to charge my protected ones last night.

Any thoughts or ideas as to what happened. Was this just a battery failure?

crap .... would have liked to see the reading on it!!!!!

Either way guys!!! If Battery/Tube gets hott -- Pop open cap, and slide out on to surface, do not grab!!!!!!!

Appreciate this post Jager .... So we can keep track to see if/when this sort of thing happens! I do wonder though (considering the charger itself is protected) If this wasn't an overcharge/over discharge issue ... where the issue actually stemmed from .... hmmmmmmm

Come on now.....big doey guy like you with a big ol' gun :)

I've been on this forum a few months and this is only the SECOND bad batt experience I've read and both did no harm - plenty freaky but no loss of life or limb.

Heck, your car batt can explode under the right (bad) conditions.

So vape on and live a little

 I never touch a car battery...don't know how to raise the hood...that's what guys are for :D:D:D:D

OK guess I'll give it a shot...if you don't hear back..you will know I am the first ever to be blown up by an e-cig!!

No big deal, huh?

I think the battery issues need looking in to.

No doubt and totally agree - sorry if my response over down played the seriousness.

Any/all defects need to be investigated so as not to become major problems.

Li Ion batts, even protected, can suffer failure and cause a problem like this. I just don't think we can get 100%, expect it, demand it but don't know we'll achieve it.
