So, I wanted a new drip tip for a 306 atty and being a little short on funds decided to make one...
went and got an acrylic pen blank from a woodworking store:
cut it to the length I wanted....
found the center on both ends and drilled a very small pilot hole to make sure I was centered straight through then enlarged that hole to the size of the inner tunnel...
then drilled part of the way into one end with a bit the size of the atty diameter to the depth of the length of the atty...
dan a bit of aliminum wire (coat hanger through the hole to keep it snug and then chucked it into the drill....
locked the drill on and strapped it down on it's side on a 2x4 on a table....so it was spinning uniformly....
then used a highspeed cutter on a dremmel as it was spinning to shape it...like working on a lathe....
then while still spinning....sanded with ultrafine sandpaper,,,,
then used a grinding stone on the dremmel to funel out the mouth end...
finally...took it off and put an old burned out 306 in it and hit it with a butane torch and pressed and rolled it on the table to flame polish it and make sure it was snug to the atty...
and the first attempt came out like this:
total cost: $5 for enough material to make about 4 of them
