I have been interested in creating my own flavor extractions for use in my e-juices, but I am curious as to how effective these extracts would be. To my knowledge, the most effective home method of extraction would be a grain alcohol steep. However, flavors derived this way would not be nearly as strong as commercially available concentrates typically used in mixing ejuice.

If you have any experience with mixing ejuice with homemade flavors, please share your experiences and/or techniques.

I've done pipe tobacco, snus, powdered cocoa, ground coffee, and ground cinnamon. All had pretty good results, but tend to have a lot of particulate matter that will collect at the coil of the atomizer.

I've only used a hot VG extraction method. In my case, I'd cover the material with VG, either place the container in boiling water, or very carefully microwave it until it hit around 210 degrees or so (much lower than the boiling temp of VG,) and let it steep for some amount of time. Longer was not always better, for whatever reason.

I usually removed the jar from heat once it got to temp, wrapped it up in towels, and let it sit for 6-12 hours. I'd then remove and gently squeeze out the material (does not clog the filter this way,) heat heat the remaining liquid again to thin it, and strain it through pieces of paper towels, which seemed to work better than coffee filters. It's pretty simple, the flavor seems to come out decently strong, and it keeps for a long time.

I haven't continued to do this, though. One of these days I'll probably try to figure out a way to separate more of the particulate from the liquid in an economical way, but I haven't got around to it.

There are a couple of threads that I got this idea from listed below:

There may be other threads of interest in the Liquid Extraction From Tobacco sub-forum at the top of this sub-forum.
