I have been attending my local church for about six months now. I believe this is where God wants me to be right now. It is a great church; the teaching is Biblical and the members show wonderful fruit. I feel it is time to make the commitment and become an "official member". I am attending the new member class and have to fill out a questionnaire. One of the things I have to do to become a member is stand up in front of the congregation and share my testimony. Part of that (and one of the questions I have to answer in my homework) is - "What Bible verse(s) do you base your salvation on?"

There are a lot of verses to choose from. There is the says-everything-you need-to-know John 3:16, but that's not exactly personal. At least, no more personal to me than to every other Christian. There are a lot of beautiful, poetic verses, like Hebrews 11:1. I feel I should choose a verse that is special to me, something that really reflects my salvation story. I don't want to choose a verse just because it is universal or pretty.

You folks know me fairly well. I'd like your input. If you were me, which verse would you choose? I have an idea of which verse I will say, but I want to hear some other suggestions.

They say it is good to take a look at yourself the way your friends see you. I am interested in seeing what verses you would choose for me.

Another question they asked in my homework is - "Are you currently under the spiritual discipline of another church (assembly of believers in Christ)? If so, please explain and provide the contact information." I'm wondering if I should list ECF-CV. I have often mentioned "my other church- the one online"

Thanks,
~A

Your pagan past is no more!.... You're a dynamic 2 Corinthians 5:17 to me ~A:

Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. :)

Well, Angel, which Scripture cleaves to your soul? Mine is as follows:

Luke 7:44-48 - Then He turned to the woman and said Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. 45) "You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. 46) "You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil. 47) "Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little." 48) Then He said to her, "Your sins are forgiven."

Why this one for me? Because, I cried for 3 days, and my sins were many.

Hey - we were just talking about her in another thread :)

Twice in one week! It reminds me of that line from "Evita"

Eva: Did you hear that they called me a .....
They actually called me a .....
Evita's escort: But Senora Peron it's an easy mistake
I'm still called an admiral yet I gave up the sea long ago

:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

Yes, I know you weren't talking about me, Saints. But you certainly could apply that one to me. Maybe the guy in the other thread wasn't specifically "questioning my virtue," either. I thought it was quite funny. If I were Catholic, my patron saint would be Mary Magdalene. I have an alabaster jar filled with spikenard oil on the shelf with my Bibles. Really, I do. We were discussing Proverbs 5 in Bible study last night. I am curious if the other people in church wondered how I was able to describe the woman's thoughts, feelings, and motivations, as if I knew her personally. (another )

But you know which verse I think I should use? You've read my testimony - my salvation story. You can imagine how when I read this a few months later, I freaked out a little bit.

And he said, “Who are You, Lord?”
Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” Acts 9:5 NKJV

Our conversation was only slightly different; a paraphrase of Acts 9:5 - I noticed someone standing in the far corner of the room, opposite the only door. No one had come through the door and past me, but I knew someone was there. I looked over and saw what/ who I knew to be God.

Me: Holy :censored:! You!! I know you. You're God! THE GOD!

God: nods and smiles (I can't explain how pure light can nod and smile, but He did.)

Me: I have been looking for you everywhere <lists umpteen various religions and deities>

God: I know.

Me: Which God are you? The other gods I have seen vaguely resemble you, but you are the real You.

God: I am the the One your husband has been telling you about. The Christian God. I know you don't like it, because of how I've been represented by "christians" in your past. He has the truth of Me righter than they did. It is going to be hard to give up your Wiccan clergy card and jokes like "The only problem with Baptists is they don't hold them under long enough." But you wanted the Truth. You can't argue the logic of what he has explained to you so far. My existence answers your questions.

A few weeks later that I prayed the sinner's prayer. I had to mentally sort some things out first. It takes a while to shift an entire paradigm.

So it is definitely Acts 9:5 for my homework. But I loved reading what you ladies suggested.

Be well,
~A

I didn't really think of it as being a 'bad girl' story. Aren't we all sinners saved by Grace? One sin isn't more sinful than another. Sin is sin. You commit one of the 10 Commandments, you've committed them all. Jesus was forgiving a woman who was sinful, and no one could take that away from her. She walked out of that house cleansed by the future Blood of the Lamb that would be spilled for her. I remember that day I got saved very well. I left the church humbled and forgiven. There was no weight of the world on my shoulders....I could breathe. I had been reborn......like my life had just started. I was a new creature who learned the lesson of being forgiven for everything by my Creator. Wow. It is Amazing Grace.
