I do not believe that ethical journalism exists in the real world. Just like democracy, it's just an idea/theory, but in practice....good luck
As a honest-to-goodness, real, hard-working newspaper reporter, I can assure you there exist quite a few ethical journalists in the world. I personally try hard to report on a story and relay only facts. Opinions belong only on the op-ed pages. Rule of thumb: If a writer is paid for his/her opinion, he/she is not a journalist.
Unfortunately, good journalism is dying. A college graduate with a journalism degree has very few job well-paying job opportunities to pay off that $50,000-100,000 student loan. While, in general, journalists aren't doing it for the money, it is a job (if you can find one) that increasingly does not give one a decent income, so fewer and fewer real journalists are entering the field.
I don't know what the future holds for real journalists, the ones who all about the real story and nothing but the story, but all this sensationalist stuff on the TV and Internet kind of depresses me.
