Hi everyone I have been vaping for about a month now and loving it so much, I haven't smoked any normal cigs since I started, everything was going good until about a week ago when I noticed some yucky mucus/phlegm in the back of my throat now it's built up so much that it's causing me to constantly try to bring it up but it just won't budge no matter what I do. Dr told me it is from quitting cigs and my body is getting rid of it however someone told me it can also be the PG, I use 50-50 and 12mg Nic I really don't know what to do because I need the PG for throat hit as I was a heavy smoker but if I don't have PG then I won't get the hit...I'm at a loss... Has anyone had this mucus problem and if so how did you get rid of it? Feeling really down atm

You quit smoking -- you're body is cleansing itself.

The only issues I've had with high PG (over 50%) was throat irritation and overly dry sinuses. I keep some high PG around for when I'm sick, since it helps clean the sinuses :)

I smoked for over 30 years, and it took almost a year to clear out the lungs. Some have reported less time, but it depends on body chemistry and duration of smoking cigarettes.

Actually, mucus is more likely to come from VG than PG. However, I suspect your doctor is right; it's from quitting smoking, not from vaping. The timeframe is about right for that.

You can try a higher PG liquid, or just wait for it to pass.

Have you tried drinking lemonade (or even just water with a little lemon juice)?

Like the others, I usually get that with higher VG liquids.

A couple things to try to replicate throat hit. It may or may not work as individuals vary greatly. Menthol will give me a fake throat hit. Also FA has something called Flash that is supposed to replicate it. You can pick up a bottle of each and add it to you liquids. How much to add? Start small and add as needed.

I heard that the PG can cause an allergic reaction and cause mucus build up

I had that too so don't worry about it. It will go of it's own accord once you adjust your PG:VG ratio. Find what suits you best, which in my case was a dry mouth and sneezing from PG and the phlegm you mention from VG. I personally found my balance at 60/40 though YMMA. Also as others said your lungs are cleaning themselves out... don't be surprised if you find tiny brown specs in the otherwise clear mucus - that's the specks of tar coming out.

Ok so I will start with the VG reduce that and see how I go

Bluecat do you know what is in Flash? I think Nicotine can give a throat hit too so I could take that up a level

IMO your doctor pegged it. You want to find out get a weeks supply of max vg and a weeks supply of max pg. Vape one then the other. If the phlegm goes away for one or the other than bingo. I suspect the chances are it's just from quitting, happens to most of us. I was spitting out chunks of black stuff for quite a while after I quit smoking and started vaping.

Like others here, high VG does that to me as well.
And the less hydrated I am, the worse it is.

I try to stay around 30% VG most of the time.
And I won't even buy anything with 50% VG or more.

Both of these things are key for me as well. I need to be below 50% vg and I have to drink a lot more water than I did as a smoker.

I really think the water is more important. I didn't feel dehydrated, but when I doubled my water intake the congestion went away.
