If the device is being overused, or if it is always in your hand, yes, the heat will build up. If you are concerned and use it almost constantly, you may want to consider grabbing another set-up to help share the load. I never recommend getting the same device twice but that is your call. I just figure that with so many choices available why not try something different, you never know, you may just discover you like the new device more. Cheers.

I use a cool fire 4 plus with an apex tank and the Clapton 0.5 coils at 55.5w but my mod and tank gets really hot is this normal or is it something to worry about?
I have the exact same set up and vape just under you at 48.5w. If you chain vape the device and tank will heat up. When I notice this I set it down for a minute and let it cool, or if its just my coils that are hot, I will take a long draw without pressing the fire button to get cool air thru to the coil so I can take a puff. I hope this helped just a little. :):) I really love my coolfire 4 plus. :D

PS it never gets too hot for me to hold. Just thought I'd throw that in there. It just gets warm. ;)

Innokin's really good about battery safety. Unless your individual device is defective (not impossible), it should have an internal temperature sensor that prevents it from operating when it gets too hot. It'll be difficult to tell with a built-in battery, but the general rule of thumb is that if you can't comfortably hold a battery in a closed fist for 30 seconds, then it's too hot. Also, hands can be deceiving. A mod that's been in a pants pocket, for example, warmed up to body temperature, can feel pretty darn warm if your hands are icy cold. Try touching it to your lips or cheek, instead. If it's still warm enough to make you go "whoah," then maybe you put it down for a few minutes and use something else while it cools off a bit. Otherwise, you should be good to go.

Depends on {[-Really Hot -]} and what that means to you.

    1) Are you Chain Vaping?
    2) Are you running the Battery down to it's lower limits?
    3) Are you sure of your Build vs. screen readings?
    4) What Gauge Wiring is the Clapton coil(s)
    5) How Old is the Mod/Battery

Lots of reasons for heat and lots of variation on what some call - Hot
Can you comfortable continue using the mod?
repeated heating of an atomizer requires excess heat to go somewhere. Metal act as heat sinks and draw off excess heat.

The question is what is causing the Excess heat.

I just had a thought looking at my battery: @nedwood how do you hold it? Does your hand cover the vent holes on the mod? That might be a part of the problem. Chain vaping while covering the vent holes on your battery.
