Just like the title says... I'm tired of all the PC, not hurting anyone's feelings.

ex. I read the Neg. Review of suppliers, and take most with a grain... but when someone complains that what they had ordered didn't come the Monday after a holiday like USPS had projected and feels the need to post a Neg. review of the supplier - yeah, "dislike"

Sure I could PM them and say "really?" Maybe if they see a few dislikes, they'd cool down and maybe think about what it is that they are complaining about.

ex. We all know it's against the rule to post negative comments about someone's asking price in the classies. Why? I know buyer beware and all... but why not help protect the buyer as well as the seller? No need to post neg. remarks about the price but "dislike"

Sure, there might be some people who abuse the button, just like I've seen people hit "like" on every post all through a thread.

Thoughts?

I think something like that would open up a whole new can of worms. There's enough bickering that goes on without any fights started over somebody "dislike"ing a post. If you don't like a post, just move on, I see no reason to advertise your disagreement with its content

It's not even about being PC, it's just about order in the forum. Maturity level in general on the internet is sorely lacking and I can guarantee it would be abused. I could just see the general atmosphere degrading beyond redemption (or at least beyond the staff's ability to moderate) if that were implemented.

And your example involving the classifieds, clicking a "dislike" button would be no different in principle than posting a negative comment on a thread

just my :2c:

We shouldn't allow someone to just dislike a thread and steer someone away from what could potentially be a good sale. I'll indulge your suggestion a bit though.

Let's say someone is selling a reo mini. $140.
It would be all to easy for someone to see the price (which is the price of a new reo mini) and dislike it...but also neverminding or ignoring the fact that the reo is only lightly used and comes with a set of aw imr 14500's and a WF-139 charger. (pretty good deal in my eyes). Disliker's mistake but the consequence goes to the honest seller.

Oh hey, someone else is selling a Provari just like mine. I'm going to go dislike their post.

But really, with everything that has to be accounted for to allow others to report or complain about pricing is overwhelming. We could easily set a flat % but not everything has the same availability, durability, quality or liquidity and all of those things would need to be accounted for in price capping. Prices can change across vendors too. Honestly, the vast majority of users who buy from the classifieds are not naive enough that they don't check before they buy.

I don't think there's been a lot of or a noticeable amount of negative feedback where someone felt they got hosed price-wise after the fact.

There is a suggestion thread in the classifieds section that you can feel free to use.

Thank you!

JM.

I'm not really a subscriber to the theory of "if you disagree, keep your mouth shut and move on." I usually do a pretty good job of it, but sometimes ignorance can't and shouldn't be ignored

What would there be to moderate? Would the poster PM a mod and complain that someone didn't like their post? That would seem the more immature response. Would the poster even care that someone disliked their post? It wouldn't really phase me, unless I see a few dislikes on the same post. Even then I may not care until I see a name I recognize and hold credible.

Dislikes wouldn't need to be a kept track of as in how the likes show on your profile.

"And your example involving the classifieds, clicking a "dislike" button would be no different in principle than posting a negative comment on a thread"

I dislike that policy anyway. It's as if its OK to rip people off to a certain extent. Who'd most likely be ripped off? A newbie who might not know any better. Like I said, buyer beware and due diligence.... A sucker born every minute.... Maybe they can't find the site to research for themselves.

Once again, maybe if the seller sees a few dislikes, they may rethink their price. Maybe they wouldn't care.

Thinking of the guy who wanted something like $3000 for an early GG. I side with that individual.

As far as I know maybe there would be a few dislikes about this post, rather than people just moving on. It would be a quick and easy way of giving feedback without the need for a post.

...Stirring the pot

It seem glaringly obvious that a dislike button will never work on this kind of forum. It will ruin the entire mood and experience and bring out the worst in people. Worst suggestion ever lol.

I appreciate the critisism, seriously. But yeah, I'd have to agree. Just needed to brain fart for a few.

I would like a Dislike button that sort of splatted a big gob of red paint all over the post in a random fashion, sometimes making it illegible, and then attributed the Dislike to another random member. I really, really would like one of these, some days. But the Forum Manager won't let me have one. Life is cruel.

There was a recent incident with an unruly poster in a thread I hang out in, where many of us would have "disliked" him had the option been available. Would that have caused him to leave any sooner? I doubt it. Would it have been more effective than attempting to ignore him (move on)? I doubt it. Would it have caused more hate and discontent? Absolutely! Disliking is truly the opposite of liking. It would cause endless pain, instead of our normal peace, love and understanding. Just sayin'...
