How close is too close?

I've been rebuilding for probably about 10 months now. All my coils have had mixed results. Tried varying gauges, numbers of wraps, and diameters and quantities of coils. Tonight I made my best coil, but I think it's only partially the coil itself. I believe it's the fact that I mounted this one closer to the posts.

Lots of my recent coils would stick out almost to the edge of the well/cap after tightening them down. This one is nice and tight and close to the posts and the performance is VASTLY better than anything I've ever built before. The coil is maybe 1/4-1/8 inch from the posts (clearly not touching them). I take it this is the proper way to mount the coil. My question is this: how close is too close so that I risk shorting/danger?

For informative purposes this coil is single, 26ga, 8 wraps, 2mm diameter, torched, and coming out at about .7 ohms. It's on a Zenith + DNA30 (Hana), currently at 17.0 watts. Sony VTC5 battery. There's no residual heat coming from the battery/device or anything. Just want to make sure I'm not sacrificing safety for satisfaction!

Side note, I'm new to the forum but been vaping (and off analogs) for about a year and a half now. Vape on!

At the voltages we deal with, as long as the coil itself isn't making direct contact with a post of the body of the rebuildable, you're good to go.

Excellent to hear! :toast:

Here's a photo. It sounds like I'm good. This one seems fine.

Yup, you're very clear of the cap in that picture Mancomb. I used to like getting quite close. Here's a shot of my Trident with dirty coils. Note, the trident has a air flow control ring and the inside of the cap gets smaller than the inside of the ring on the deck by about 1/2 mm.
