Could be, I never was good at reading measurements. I truly do appreciate all of the help, I'll pick up some bigger round things to work with tomorrow and implement this information.

Do yourself a favor and don't just build with random "round" things. A complete drill bit set from any hardware store will run you less than $6. I bought a cheap set of Black and Decker bits from Lowes and it has both mm and inches on the drill bit holder so I can know exactly what I am wrapping with. You may not think accuracy is important, but being safe is better than being sorry. Also, did you measure the resistance of your meter before you used it on the coil? If you don't know what the resistance of your meter is you cant know what the real resistance is of your coil.

The lemo is easy to work with, but please be safe about it, safety first!

I prefer the precision screwdrivers over drill bits. They're much easier to work with.

About the coil.... That's some heavy gauge wire and a massive coil for the MVP to try and heat. Way too much coil for that device.

My recommendation is wait for the 28 ga and do 9 wraps on a 2 mm screwdriver. That should get you ~1.5 ohms.

That was meant as a joke. I'm going to get a screwdriver set, I seem to be missing the bigger ones out of my set.

I did some shopping today. My 28g got delayed evidently, because it wasn't delivered today as estimated. So I shopped in town.

With the information gathered here (thanks Cullin Kin for the link to steam engine, major help) from everyone I had another go at it, this time actually knowing what gauge wire I was working with. I set my goal for 2ohm, and built this.

And then I built it again, because I tightened the freaking screw too much and broke the lead off. Chalk it up to learning.

Anyway, I ended up with this.

Very, very happy with the result. Fires like a champ on the MVP. Looking forward to more practice when it comes time to rebuild. As I said a few posts back, I really do appreciate the input and information. I really try to do my research (on anything), but sometimes you just gotta ask.

A nice little side story. I got my wire out of the box, undid the end of the wire from the catch that holds it, cut my length. And I let go. Wire everywhere. How I didn't see that coming, I don't know.

Great job, that's a good looking coil there! You can also trap the leads under the screw heads, if that would be easier for you, just an FYI for future reference. Also, I'm pretty sure we've all had the slinky accident, I've done it a number of times myself. I just saw a tip the other day, after having been rebuilding for over a year, cut extra notches into the spool so you can catch the end wherever you need to. Can't believe I never thought of that, but that's one of the reasons why this place is so great.

Yeah I may try that in the future. It had crossed my mind while dealing with the weird bends required to meet the holes in the posts, but the deck and screws are so small I figured I might be better off aiming for the holes for my first few attempts at building. I want to learn a vertical (think they call them chimney coils) here soon. Seems like it would be well suited for this rta.

Thank you for the kind words. That does seem like a nice little trick, I'll have to do that. And, yes, this community is a real asset. I've been on car forums mostly, but this place sets a new standard.
