How come im not coughing up 10 years of crap?

Been off analog butts for three months now, from a pack a day to zero, no cheating. But my suspicion is nicotine paralyzes the cilia or the hot vapor does something, because if they are active how come I am not cleaning up my lungs? Something is gumming up the works. I have seen posts saying nicotine does not and in have seen post saying nicotine does. Both posts were from doctors or researchers one from a university forget the name and another on this forum (first topic that came up when I put in the Google search.)

So what is the consensus??

dunno what ta tell ya. i've been wondering the same thing myself. i've been vaping exclusively for 9 months and haven't coughed up any gunk either. i remember coughing up stuff ten years ago when i quit smoking for 6 months. but this time nothing. i've also suspected that it might be something to do with vaping but maybe someone here has a more educated analysis.

Some people just don't cough up gunk. I was a 30+ Years pack a day smoker. I've been vaping 1 1/2 years. I don't cough up gunk and never did. I have a theory, only a theory with nothing to back it up, that because I would get bronchitis every year those episodes helped clean a lot of the junk from my lungs. I've not gotten bronchitis since I started vaping.

I never had a smokers cough nor did I have that wheezing. My doc says my lungs sound excellent, this was 2 weeks ago that I went for my routine old age checkup. :)

Welcome to the forum :D

Were you sitting around smoking for 10 years,or were you active?
not everyone has the muck phase..
I smoked since i was 13 and stopped when i was 49 last october..
i'm 50 now and coughed stuff up when i was a smoker, but that stopped since i started vaping..
plus i sleep a hell of a lot better..

you may not have such bad lungs as you think..you may not go through a muck phase..not everyone does..

30+ years 2.5-3 packs a day I have coughed up nothing. I have been smoke free for 3 weeks 5 days. here is my take on what's happening
in the past trying to quit I had coughing fit for a couple days then decided to just smoke to stop coughing myself into a serious headache. The thing is I was quitting with nothing going into my lungs using patches, gum, pills ect ect . Enter vaping I'm inhaling vapor (STEAM) this keeps my lungs hydrated with moisture unlike cig smoke that's fairly dry and also caused me to cough. I also noticed that when they started putting that fire safe crap into analogs my coughing got 10X worse and I'm not the only person who noticed that. My best consensus as to why I'm not hacking up a lung it that vapor is Steam, like using a vaporizer on a child who has a dry cough it sooths that aspect. I do believe my body is absorbing the bad crap in my lungs from analogs and that's why nothing is coming up.

I'm gonna venture that your body is constantly getting rid of yuk even as you smoke. When I quit, I didn't notice any huge amount of clearing happen, but I did notice a general overall feeling of "betterness". I don't seem to get colds and flue as often now, feel like my tidal volume has improved, and I don't get as winded as pre-vaping.
One way that might help is to ask your doc to perform a PFT (pulmonary function test). If you just started vaping you may be able to establish a base line and then re-do the test in say a year or so and observe any changes. Just a thought....

I was "active" when I was smoking, 2+ packs a day, running, working out (military....). Never had the "gunk" after switching either.
Not everyone gets a big build up that the lung need to expel.

A month after I totally switched I could tell what little problems from smoking I had were gone. I do get a bit more phlegm with vaping and I know it's the PG/VG that is not being fully absorbed.
For me, that 's the cost of chain vaping.. LOL

Could it be that those (myself included) who do not hack up gross stuff are those who did not inhale as much as those who experience lots of lung-cleaning?

might be something to that. over the years a few people told me that i didn't inhale right when i smoked. one other thing comes to mind is that about the last three years before i turned to vaping i'd cut down from a pack a day to only around 4-10 cigs a day. so maybe those two factors had something to do with my lack of lung gristle.

That can't be said about me. I would definitely lung inhale cigs. Even hold it in for a bit. Who really can say for sure what makes some people have that junk and some people don't? It's a mystery. ;)

I guess the point is, some will cough up stuff, some won't. Our bodies are individual in how they react to different things we throw at them. It constantly amazes me how they are able to cleanse themselves of impurities we intake.

Thank you for all the responses! Even though I was a pack or more day smoker I never had coughing fits even in the am, not until the very end when I decided to quite. Waking up and lighting a .... 10min later meant something had to change. Plus I love not smelling like and ash tray. Like you all seem to conclude the positive effects, easier breathing, waking up more rested etc from quitting analogs are there, however some of us do not go through a clean out phase. My idea and this is pure conjecture, is those of us who switch to vaping are still passing a warm gas with a drug that if you notice stings the back of your throat or gums if you have every tried nicorette its a tingle. Goes away after a week of smoking ecigs even a cpl days. My feeling is because your putting something other than cool air down your throat the cilia are working but imp[aired so while you sleep I am musing here the cleaning gets done slowly instead of one big gunk bust.

Also when I as a smoker as another member said I used to get pulmonary infections often and used expectorants often to clear the mucus and I cut back smoking heavily while I was sick. I agree that probably helped clean out a lot of crap. As you I have not had any air way issues or colds since the switch. almost 4 months now.. no longer see a cigarette in my head when I get a craving I see strawberries and cream or irish cream and Java mixed or Udderlynuts and Coconut mixed lol vanilla tobbaco ... im 31 and they say they market these flavors for kids... egh more like for millennial stupid stupid self righteous people trying to ban nicotine in all forms , especially inside Massachusetts whats with that!??

side note my doc said switch was smart though ecigs and the effects of PG and VG on the lungs are not studied she couldn't say much more, though she did say that nicotine is the most addictive substance in the world more so than .... or [MODERATED]... might have to google that she if my doctor knows what she is talking about.

sorry for any misspellings or grammar, multitasking is hard before caffeine kicks in. :p

Vape well my friends,
Eben

I recommend The Halo unless you feel like building your own from the bottom up coils to wicks and drip tips.. I am fine just refilling my tnaks and their prices are decent their juice is good but I like mtbakervapor the best so far for eliquid. You can mod everything from flavor shots to add to base flavor nicotine, pg/vg pg/h20 pg60/vg40 etc....

Nicotine content is not an important factor, according to my experience. I started with 18mg, but quickly dropped to 0mg, on the advice of a doctor. After the drop, I still did not cough up gunk. Several months ago, I began using 3mg, because 0mg was not satisfying me, especially during times of situational anxiety.
