best information i've read is at FlavorArt. no one vaping that i'm aware of has had a problem with trace amounts of diacetyl. the problem was realized from workers at a popcorn factory in the 1990s. diacetyl gives the popcorn that buttery flavor. i think they were breathing in more than trace amounts. its certainly nothing to take for granted but at the same time i wouldnt worry about it. most sites like Flavor Art have or are in the process of eliminating the diacetyl from their product. the Flavor Art information is a good read. Good luck

It causes permanent irreversible damage to your lungs in any amount. Even Diacetyl substitutes have been found to have trace amounts. I don't vape anything with a butter, ice cream, or custard flavor, and even at that I'm still a bit uncomfortable.

If you watch this episode of vapelink they get well into the details of the dangers.

I'm with you. I'm very cautious about it.

Anything! From any vendor on the butter, ice cream, custard? :( That makes me very sad.

Pretty much, Kurt talked about tests being done on some of the diacetyl substitues where diacetyl was still found. He wouldn't say who the manufacturer was, an I understand his reasoning. Chances are this is not the flavor manufacturers impurity and may be a problem that exists in many flavors from many manufacturers.

The thing that really concerns me is that I'm quite experienced with diacetyl and know that in low amounts the buttery and creamy flavor does not show. For example, nearly every red wine and many white wines have diacetyl although the perception of creamy or butter flavors is often very faint to unnoticeable.

Personally I would like to see the majority of vapers stop vaping these flavors until the manufacturers can start publishing test results that show there is absolutely no diacetyl in their flavorings.

I think people don't realize that there are differences in the way toxins/poisons work in your body. A great many things are only harmful if you have acute exposure above a certain threshold. Ethanol is a great example, you can kill yourself if you drink too much in a single night. But for the most part there are no long term health effects from light to moderate alcohol use. There are other things such as asbestos, heavy metals, diacetyl that have long term health effects. That's why were concerned if there is lead or mercury in our drinking water. Even if it's parts per billion those metals accumulate in your body and are not flushed out, so a lifetime of even minimal exposure is a very dangerous thing.

Is there an affordable home Diacetyl test yet? Does milkshake flavors and white chocolate flavors have Diactetyl? I am trying to get through that vapelink ep. It is difficult to get through but thanks for posting the link. Where did you get the information that Diactelyl builds up in the body over time instead of acting like apple seeds and just passing shortly after you eat them? Thanks for the great info all :)

AFAIK there's no cheap way to test for Diacetyl. Even with the proper equipment it's not an east test. It's quite possible you could find a lab that could test, but I doubt you'd want to pay for it for your own purposes.

In the VP video Kurt gives a very detailed explanation it. It does not build up in the body, but it kills your lung tissue leaving permanent scar tissue. I gave the comparison to a toxin like Arsenic (in apple seeds) that builds up in your body, because it's the same type of thing, even the most minute exposure will have long term effects, especially if it's continued exposure.

....and yet, knowing this, and knowing that there *may* be bad effects, plenty of juice vendors selling it, albeit with warnings, on sites.

Why not just take it off menu until further study can be done? I know I would not want to be responsible for selling diacetyl containing juice , esp. if later on it turns out that it actually could harm someone.

thinking about some of these potientialy harmful flavorings, and i say potientally b/c if you vape them once a month it may never effect you,

No it WILL effect you, it MAY not effect to a noticable degree, it MAY not effect you that you'll wind up needing a lung transplant

What popular vendors are you guys aware of that uses Diacetyl or do all the butter, ice cream, and custards have it in it?...I am getting some butter rum from Vermillion today...:(

:( You could call and ask... but the thing is some of the other supposed "Diacetyl free" flavorings for such flavors still have Diacetyl. :( Which sucks. The most depressing thing I have hear in a long time.

But to be honest, can it be worse that the analogs we used to smoke. I've been exposed to asbestos, nitrogen atmosphers and a lot of other things when I worked at a factory. I can understand the caution, but think about it. One small bad thing compared to 4,000?. sorry to be a party pooper on this. If your concerned then don't use it. I will admit that the vendors I use don't use it to my knowledge, but can you honestly trust any of them. And don't let the FDA get hold of it. Heck look at all the things they approved for humans and then had to recall. :2c:
