How did I crack my Evod?

Alrighty, so I gave up on years of cartos immediately upon trying my first Kanger product. It was love at first... vape. I'm now running a few Evods, a Protank 2, and loving them. However, I was just puffing away on an Evod and noticed some juice outside of the window. So I emptied it, cleaned it with hot water, and inspected it - sure enough, there was a crack at the bottom of the window. So into the trash can it went (they're only $4.95 at Sweet-Vapes.com right now so it's not a big deal).

However, I'd like to know what I did to make it crack, so I can be more careful in the future. I've used it for over a month, but I've ONLY put various menthol juices through it... nothing like cinnamon or citrus or anything. So what's the most likely culprit: can screwing the base on too tightly cause the window to crack? Or did I likely just drop it once and forget that it happened? Thanks!

I have not heard of any cracking EVOD's other than cracker juices and dropping them.

I would make sure none of the juices you use are in THIS list and if you happen to use Mt Baker Vapor for juices, they also keep a list of cracker juices on their site as well.

If it turns out that it IS a juice problem, then I would suggest trying out an ARO. You can see my review of the ARO here:

User error?

I'm not aware of any menthols causing a problem - unless it's menthol combined with a known problem flavoring.

Perhaps it was just a bad window to begin with. Perhaps you "did something" - dropped it, something came in contact with it that cause it to crack.

Just to be sure: What are the liquids that have been run through it?

A few of my Evods are a month old and no cracking problems. You might have dropped it and didn't notice the crack then.

All I've put through it is menthol. Let's see - when I first bought it, the brick-and-mortar filled it with DIY Flavor Shack, and at home it has been filled with Halo Menthol Ice, Halo SubZero, and Goodejuice NET Menthol Ice.

A few of my Evods are a month old and no cracking problems. You might have dropped it and didn't notice the crack then.

I doubt it could be that unless you use a pair of vice grips to put it on.

Although if any of those menthol "ice" juices use Wintergreen as a component then that may still be the issue. Menthol is safe but there have been reports of the Wintergreen causing problems.

Ah, crap. I'll be honest, I've skimmed that huge thread about juices that crack tanks many times, but I do NOT recall wintergreen being a problem flavor. And I would not be surprised if Halo's stronger juices (like SubZero and Menthol Ice) have a little wintergreen in them... they are very strong, with a mix of mints.

That's a big help, Scott. So I guess either I dropped it, or it's the wintergreen. I'll try a brand new Evod and if it cracks too, I'll just place an order for some Mini Protank 2s. (I'm sure the Smoktech Aro is nice too, but I already have a bunch of Kanger heads.)

If you do go with an ARO, the ARO heads do work in the EVOD's (just not vice-verse) so you can just order a bunch of those. I plan to over time phase out my EVOD use in favor of the ARO.
