My favorite setup is a 3 wrap of 28 kanthal. Comes out to around .6 Ohms or so. I've been using that set up for awhile, and haven't had any problems until recently. I tend to keep my coils anywhere from .6-.8 Ohms on my mechanincal mods.

I even tried to use different mesh. I've used 325,400, and 500 ss mesh. I find myself only being able to take a 2-3 second hit without getting a dry hit. Does anyone out there know any solutions?

I assume this is on a genesis style atomizer ya?
Sometimes rolling your wick a little thicker will help although if you make it too thick your wick becomes more of a heat sink.
If there is a lot of naked coil between your top coil and your positive post, meaning the coil has a little ways to travel before making contact with your wick - this can be a problem. You could cut your coil a little shorter bringing the wick a little closer to the center post. Alternatively, you could sit your coil between a couple of washers which would provide less blank space between the coil and positive contact.
Generally nudging my coils up and a little closer to the positive post fixes the problem.
On a new set-up, pulsing the coil by turning your device on and off will "break it in" by building small amounts of carbon between the coil and wick. Adjusting your coil during this time with some gentle nudges up or down until they are all glowing evenly usually fixes it.

Hope some of this helps.
