So, I decided to get into genesis style atomizers after using rba's for a while. I ordered an rsst some 400 and 500 ss mesh and I've got some of my 34 awg nichrome 80. After playing around with it for a couple days I still feel like something is wrong. I've been using the 500 mesh so far, or so I think? They didn't label the mesh. I've rolled some dense straw wicks loose straw wicks and a solid wick, but I'm getting some weird hits from them. When I take a hit after not using it, I tip it of course but it's always very dry. Then a hit later it starts coming back. If I tilt it too much it floods the air hole and not enough it dry hits again..

I think I'm oxidizing it good enough and the rsst is sealed, so I shouldn't be shorting it in the tank or around the wick hole. I torch before hand, then I make a small crease for the end. I wrap it up really even and torch it a good 3 times. I put the wick in a dry tank and wrap a coil around it then pulse and prod out the hot spots. The coils look nice and they glow evenly too. I'm probably going to try the petar k method soon when I get more time, but if anyone has any good tips or enlighten me it would be much appreciated.

u using thick juice?

I've been using it with a 50/50 of hawk sawce, it's not very thick

is the fill hole open or closed? if closed try it without, also it works better if the wick doesn't fill up most of the wick hole, you need a little gap. also if the coils are to loose you may not be vaporizing the juice correctly.

I've been removing it, it gives me more dry hits when it's plugged up. The wick might be the problem, I don't make them too big though, Ive made them snug and loose. I try to wrap the coils not too tight or too loose either

When you say dense wicks, how dense is it? How much 500 mesh did you use. I typically (for a solid wick) use about nearly 4inches of mesh that I roll tight (takes a lot of rolling and strong fingers).
When you say wick fits snug and loose - how much? I am able to drop my wick into the wick hole, barely touching the sides of the wick hole.
A few things I have experienced with dry hits (not wicking enough)
1.) Wick can be choked my wrapping the coil too tight (Peter K method will definitely help)
2.) Wick can be choked by pushing the wick in the wick hole too 'snuggly'
3.) Wick can be choked by over oxidation of mesh (burning the Cr*p out of it) and stopping the capillary action

One last thing - Are you sure that it is just a dry hit or do you have a short or hotspot? When I experience a dry hit, I get an early warning sign (i.e. you can taste it coming); when I get a short or hotspot appearing - it is usually there instantaneously!

Thanks, I took some time away from trying to build this. After a few tries just now I managed to build a successful coil. What you said really made sense and I took it into consideration when building. Now it's vaping amazingly. I barely have to tilt and the vapor and throat hit are excellent. I'm excited to get into the genny world, theese things really are amazing.
