How do I tell when my cartridge is empty?

I am just wondering how do I tell when my cartidge is empty. I am going to be ordering a bottle to refill and keeping my empty cartidges but how I tell when they are empty?

When they stop producing a good amount of vapour or when you start getting a dry/burnt taste is usually a good time to start topping them off.
