Since I'm just at a month in of vaping and not smoking (Yay!), I'm becoming comfortable vaping in public. Not in no-smoking areas, just on the walks from the car to the building, etc. I haven't been approached just yet with questions about whether i'm smoking a cigarette or some other drug device, but was curious if anyone had a standard spiel that they say when confronted...

"It's a PV. Personal Vaporizor. You would better know it by it's more common name: Electronic Cigarette. I built this one myself." I then slip off the cover of my box mod and show them the inside of it while I explain how it works and show the safety measures built into it so it won't blow up in my face.

When I get to the carto, I start into explaining the juice. "This is what gets vaporized." I show them a bottle of juice. "it's a mix of Vegetable Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, flavorings, water, and nicotine. It has approximately 4,000 fewer chemicals than a cigarette." In the event that they freak out about PG I tell them that it's a non-toxic base fluid that is used in everything from anti-freeze to asthma inhalers and everything in between, including hand lotions and flavor extracts for baking. Then I slide the cover back on it and vape!

I stay away from saying anything about anti-freeze that makes people freak out and think Ethelyn glycol

People often start the conversation with some tidbit they heard somewhere...
"..on tv I saw that those aren't safe..."
"...in the newspaper they say that does things to your skin..."

And other such nonsense....

I ,politely and cheerfully as possible, explain the reality as simply as possible. Usually resulting in looks of wonder and comments like.."oh? Really? Where do I get one?" or "hmmm maybe they aren't so bad if ya put it that way"..

If they feel like chattin more it usually ends up with the whole " I have a (insert relation here) who smokes...maybe they should try it".

I rarely get negative response except from someone who tried some crappy device and was dissatisfied. They went back to smoking...and tell everyone that ecigs are crap...

But in my little village I'm converting more and more almost very day...

Additional: as the diver medic for my company, I have converted our smokers to vaping. And it's only been a few weeks.

I go to the casino every so often and people come by and sit down near me. Then they start flailing their arms about and coughing. I let this go on for awhile having a big time while they make fools of themselves telling me how allergic they are to smoke. Then I finally tell them what it is and there is no smoke. Quite interesting - always amazing how programmed people are to certain things.

Well for starters, if they were THAT allergic they wouldnt be in the casino, or anyplace with smoking. Many people that I have met like this aren't allergic, they just use that word instead of saying they are opinionated jerks who just don't like smoke.

But with that said, it is sometimes fun to see people waving away a stray vape cloud...one lady that I didn't notice at a bus stop got a cloud blown past her accidentally, and she went on some rant about how now she has to wash that nasty smell off and blah blah...so people are staring at me like I'm a total ......so after she ...... me off I deliberately blew some in her face as I said through the haze, it's not smoke you cow! The look of embarrassment on her face as her husband started laughing at her was priceless!

Maybe I did t need to go that far, but she really ...... me off making a big scene like that...

I had a worker at Disneyland tell me I could not smoke where I was, I told I was not smoking and it wasn't smoke clouds I was blowing, she asked me what it was and I told her it was a vaporizer...she said oh, okay and went on her merry way. I was kind of hoping that she would continue to put up a stink so I could slap the inhaler out of the hands of the first asthmatic kid I came across and yell, "you can't do that here dammit!"...but no such luck. Nobody ever messes with me, sometimes I go to the smoking section to laugh at the people who cough and gag as they insist on walking through it, most of the time I just vape where I please...I just don't care anymore lol.
