How do you get your wraps evenly spaced on a standard coil?

Hey all,

New to coil building and I've been playing with the wire that came with my Lemo Drop getting some practice at wrapping. Wrapping a coil where there is contact between the loops seems pretty easy, but I want to get good at a standard, or spaced coil. So far my wraps are very unevenly spaced doing this type. Any tips? I wasn't able to find anything with the search function.

Edit.
Here is my best effort so far. It's not bad over all, but the 2nd loop on each end is not linear with the ones toward the middle.

I liked spaced coils too. I usually wrap it touching, then pull it apart to get the spacing. When I have one wrap that is wonky, I use a really small flat blade screwdriver that I put between the wraps to move em apart. That said, your coil looks pretty perfect. Cheers

after reading that doesn't seem clear...I put the tip of the driver between the two wraps i wanna move and twist it to spread it apart. Also I use some fine point tweezers to squeeze one or two wraps individually. Hope that helps. If you try the screw, let us know how it works

Coil looks nice.

I use a needle or similar to even the spacing of any that are off by nudging or sliding it in like a feeler gauge...Then glow it and check again. You can also move the coils while they are glowing, carefully, as they are very maleable. Anything that has trouble moving cold will move like butter when its glowing. That can help you perfect it the last bit that doesn't want to stay put.

The way you wrap it the very first time around the mandrel is what it trys to hold... Screws work too but I don't bother with it.

Yours looks a lot neater than mine! My end loops are always deformed somehow. I don't like the wraps touching, just close; I flame the wire before wrapping it, and i wrap it as closely together as I can manage. Once I get it mounted, I do the 'pulse-squeeze' thing to tighten it more, but I don't grab the coil the very instant I let off the button, because I don't want the wraps touching. If you wait a beat before pressing, they've cooled just enough that they won't stay stuck, but will still get in closer together. They generally end up with fairly even spacing that way, though as i said, my end loops are hopeless looking. As long as it works, i really don't care how it looks. :)

You can wrap a parallel coil (2 wires wrapped together as one coil) and then unwind them to have not one, but two perfectly even spaced coils. The only downfall is that the spacing is equal to whatever wire you're using. To counter that you can wrap your, say, 26 gauge, in parallel with a different sized wire to get a different spacing. Takes some practice but works like a charm. Hope this helped :)

Are you sure you haven't already used the screw trick? Just kidding. Your coil looks great. I know I have read where a lot of people love their little coil wrapping gizmo they got from Amazon. That is what I would like to try. I have lots of other problems so thank goodness being a perfectionist is not one of them. No my father would give you a run for your money with having to be perfect. My coils don't look great but I'm happy with them and they work. Good luck to you and that is a really nice coil.

I don't... when doing spaced coils I do more like Kanger and space the middle further for a pseudo-dual effect. The wraps near the end are usually as close as possible without touching. Dry burn makes it actually light up evenly rather than from the inside out (you can't have both).... My Taifun build goes further and intentionally stretches the coil. The middle 1.5 wraps are at nearly 45 degree pitch and the close end wraps are about .125" away from liquid juice.

I just picked up the UD coiler. Not because I make bad coils although sometimes I hate myself lol, but be cause of ease and speed and wow what a difference. Matching perfect coils in seconds every time. This is nota winder like some devices and is so much simpler.

Silly question here, but what's a UD cooler and where can I get one?
Coiler.....typo, lol. I got mine significantly cheaper than market (typically up to 20 bucks) at a site I can't remember. Vapor kings has them for 10, mbv has them for 7, ev cigs for 10, triangle vape for 7.
