Ok, so the wife and I are new to the e-cigarette world and were discussing what we each thought "throat hit" meant when we realized we inhale differently!

I fill my mouth with vapor, throat closed, then pull the PV away and take a big breath, inhaling the collected vapor into my chest all at one time.

On the other hand, she slowly inhales from the PV, throat open, taking the vapor immediately into her lungs as she goes. I tried this but after about four or five seconds, burned the heck out of the back of my throat! After my coughing fit subsided, it made me wonder... Until two weeks ago, I've smoked a pack a day for 22 years. Have I been doing it WRONG all that time?!

How do you guys inhale?

TNT, I inhaled cigs the same way but i have found out that PT,PV,Mods and so on and so forth a slower direct inhale pull seems to give you all around a better vaper production, and flavor in my opinion. As far as a throat hit goes, I would suggest to slow down the inhale to a slower inhale. Give that a try, also consider the amount nic in your juice can effect the throat hit or called (TH/th) in this forum meaning the same thing.

Hope this helps,
vape on!

Wow, trenthull, thanks! It really does make a difference when you slow the inhale and draw it directly. We got in our order of vikingvapor flavors today and we've been testing them all day. Now i'm going to have to go try them all again since the flavor really does seem different when I try it your way. Thanks again!

Drag into my mouth THEN inhale. I can't believe people vape any other way. Direct lung inhales are miserable. The atty gets so hot that it scorches my mouth and throat. I also can't believe a lot of people smoked by doing direct lung inhales either. So weird to me. Isn't the proper way to smoke a cigarette to bring the smoke into your mouth and then inhale? In my early teens when all of my friends and I were trying smoking for the first time I watched them all make the "noob mistake" of directly inhaling and coughing. Another kid taught me the correct way to smoke and luckily I never coughed from my first smoke.

PS: wow Trent- advertising?

When I smoked, I always inhaled directly into my lungs. Even when I was smoking filterless. Maybe I'm just insane, who knows.

But when I started with e-cigs, I had to inhale into my mouth, and THEN my lungs. Trying to direct inhale make me cough like crazy (possibly due to damage to my cilia from smoking).

And now, 2 months into vaping... I kind of do a weird cross. I mostly inhale into my mouth first, but there's sort of a trickle of vapor that goes directly into my lungs. I just tried a direct inhale, and it doesn't make me cough anymore.

I've only inhaled to mouth and then to lungs (both with analogs and ecigs). However seeing discussions on the forums about techniques, I tried the direct inhale on a couple juices and choked. However I did find that I could direct inhale any of my juices that were 80% VG (20% PG) very easily. No way I could I do that with any of my straight PG or majority % PG juices.

I did just try doing a very very slow direct inhale of a mostly PG flavor and that did minimize the throat flamethrower and gag reflex.

I was never inclined to direct-inhale when smoking cigarettes (always associated it more with other smokeables), and I vape pretty much as I smoked--draw into the mouth then breathe in. One thing I do find myself doing much more often than I did with cigarettes is multiple-dragging: drawing in more vapor as I'm exhaling the previous draw through my nostrils a couple or three times.

I'm with Mistress. I always direct inhaled when I smoked, but having to suck longer and a little harder on the PV, it's just like the cross that she says she does. My husband tried to direct inhale at first and he coughed every time, now that he holds it into his mouth, he doesn't cough near as much. But he'd also been a non-smoker for almost a year (he'd switched to Camel Snus) when I bought my PV, so it was almost like starting up again for him.
